Instead, they told me they couldn't proceed if I wasn't fully committed to the balayage. Then, they outright refused to provide me with any service. First, they blamed the confusion on hiring a new employee, but when the owner got involved, she refused to apologize. Instead, she boasted about running a successful business for eight years with 2,000 clients and went as far as telling me that I was no longer a customer--while I was still in the store. I left feeling humiliated and with the following questions: If the subtotal is $140, what is the total cost? (I was willing to pay up to $300, yet the website provides no clear pricing details.) Why was my time wasted when this could have been clarified over the phone? Was I refused service based on my appearance? How much does it cost to treat a customer with basic respect in front of the staff?

I was in the area for my cousin's high school graduation. My cousin wanted to get her hair done for Prom, and found this place on her own through internet searches. She made a reservation based on good reviews she read. We got there a bit early and they got her in right away. She showed her stylist a photo of the kind of hairstyle she wanted, which was braids in the front connecting to a bun in the back (I'm doing a poor job of describing it, but it's a fairly simple style). The stylist started doing something, then undid it because it didn't look right, then tried something else again, and was clearly struggling a bit with my cousin's Asian hair (very straight and sleek). I don't blame her for this, since our hair texture can be tricky to work with if you don't have a lot of experience with it. After about half an hour of this she asked a senior stylist for help, which I thought was very appropriate. But then the senior stylist said to my cousin, "You need to make up your mind about what you want to do, because we can't be trying a million different styles. We're wasting a lot of time." I had been watching the whole time from the waiting area, and her attitude and tone of voice with my cousin made me really angry because she was trying to blame the problem on my 17yo cousin. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make the situation worse by making them mad, thereby risking them messing up my cousin's hair. The senior stylist did end up making it work out and the final hairstyle looked good (hence the 4 stars), but her attitude the whole time trying to make my cousin feel like she had done something wrong left a bitter taste in both our mouths.

I have only had good experiences with fantastic outcomes. And anyone that can make my thin, fine hair feel full of volume has my wholehearted support! She goes the extra mile with scented, heated towels after shampooing and a lovely head massage. And she isn't a big product pusher, so you don't have to worry about leaving your appointment with 4 expensive bottles of product you didn't really need. (Though she does have product on hand if you like what you see!) Not to mention, she is incredibly personable and fun to be around. A few things about the studio itself: It's a really neat space that houses many independent hair stylists in their own separated studios. Molly's space is clean and comfortable, with added bits of charm throughout, such as the aromatherapy diffuser that makes the whole experience relaxing. And as a bonus, I really like knowing that my hairstylist isn't just getting a small commission, as she is her own company. I highly recommend supporting talented women like this!
