Keri has been my colorist for dare I say more than 20 years. I started coming here on the recommendation of my brother. Who knew the relationship I'd have with the team here all these years later. I get random compliments on my color from complete strangers. Michael has been my hairdresser since 1992. My mother and I started going to him at the same time. She has since passed away. I cannot say enough good things about him as a person and a hairdresser. He is kind and sensitive, and has a good sense of humor. I always leave uplifted besides having a great haircut. Everyone who works with him is friendly and supportive. I've been going to Michael Stefan Salon for several years and have always had a pleasant experience. The salon is never crowded. Even before Covid, there were rarely more than 2 customers at a time, so it's always calm and peaceful there. Great historic building with beautiful decor. I love getting my hair cut with Michael. He is an expert in curly hair. Precision cutting! If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of one of his adorable dogs. Aveda and other product lines to choose from, so something for all hair types. The artwork displayed is from local artists, and is for sale. Always something interesting to see. You can even enjoy a stroll thru the historic downtown and enjoy a coffee or a meal. It is almost impossible to find someone who can deal with my curly, frizzy, unruly hair, but thankfully I found Keri! It's nice to get my bangs trimmed evenly so that I don't have to trim them more when I get home (which is what I typically had to do in the past). She also does a great job on coloring my hair. On top of that, she is extremely friendly and personable. The salon is kept very clean, the staff is friendly and always offers refreshments, and the music is usually 80's hits when I visit. The staff was very friendly but I must say I received the worst blow dry of my life from here. I'm Hispanic and have curly hair so I guess they aren't use to my kind of hair but a great blow dry should be the first thing a hair stylist should know how to do well on any type of hair. read more

It took me years to find someone that new how to cut curly wavy hair and Michael knows how to cut and style just the way I want it.

I'm new to Cleveland and I haven't been able to make a decision on where to get my hair done. Back home, my sister did my hair, and she's the only one I've been able to trust for years. So, I hopped on the internet and started searching for "curly hair salons near me" and "best curly hair stylists in Cleveland". I really just wanted someone who knew how to cut curly hair and style it afterward. That's when Micheal Stefan Salon showed up! I started to read reviews, and decided to give it a try since the salon had 4.9 stars! I wanted highlights, because I've wanted to be blonde for a long time and I knew it was a multi appointment process. My roots had grown in brown, and the rest of my hair was a strawberry blonde. Erin, my stylist, assured me that she could blend my roots with the strawberry blonde and add beautiful highlights. I figured she knew what she was doing better than I did, so I told her I trusted her and let her do her thing. I ended up with the same harsh line between my roots and the rest of my hair, with blonde strait highlights that were sporadically placed. I didn't notice this until I got home because I got my hair cut afterward, and even though it was SUPPOSED to be a "deva cut", they cut it WET. Of course, again, I didn't say anything because I read that Michael had been doing hair since the 80's and I THOUGHT he knew what he was doing. The deva cut was not a true deva cut, he just used JUST ONE deva curl product on my hair. I paid too much money for what I received. And when I called the next day to tell them I was unhappy with the results after my hair had dried, I got attitude from Erin telling me that "it was what I asked for". I wish you could see the pictures. No one would EVER ask for this. She then told me she didn't want to fix it because "I wasn't going to like anything she did" and that "it was impossible to color over highlights because you'd still see them". After talking for awhile she mentioned that she had 30 minutes on Saturday to fix my hair before I went to Florida on Monday. She said she would put the color on and I would be responsible for the rest. When I wanted to speak to the owner about a refund, he was "unavailable" and I was told he'd call me back at 1:45 PM. Well, they never called and I ended up going to a DIFFERENT salon and paying ANOTHER fee for someone to fix my hair. They did a wonderful job. And if you're wondering, I CANT see any of the horrible highlights that were there before. I am horrified with what was done and how unprofessionally I was blown off. There may be many amazing reviews about this place, but I have not one good thing to say. I wish I could give this salon a no star review. I will never return. read more

Worst haircut in almost 20 years! When Michael, the owner, was about done he said "Well that looks good enough!" Good enough? No it doesn't, because you butchered my hair! Normally it takes my girl 75 minutes to wash, cut and style but I was in and out in under 30 minutes. If you win a gift certificate to this place, throw it away immediately! Not worth having your hair destroyed for the next 6 months while it's growing back out! read more

I think "meh" pretty much sums it up. Michael does not seem that engaged with his clients. Kind of a "by rote" stylist. I've had business transactions that were more uplifting than my time in the salon. read more
