We have been using LB Holistic Tree service for many years, four or five I think. No lollipop tree cutting here! Its always a good sign when your tree man knows more than you do about your own trees as well as the scientific names of the neighbors' trees. Working with Ben was a two day process. The first day was the initial paid consultation which was worth every penny. We walked my whole property discussed all my trees not just the ones I was planning on having pruned. I learned a lot! He also gave me online resources for me to study up on better pruning techniques for my Santa Rosa Plum tree that I am taking care of myself. The second day he and his friend Ty came and got to work on my 30+ft Ginko Biloba and my almost as big Chinese Elm. They did a beautiful job shaping the tree. What I really appreciated was that Ben listened to what I wanted my trees to do for my garden, block the streetlight here, hide the neighbors there etc. With that in mind they took care of it. So happy to have found Ben with LB Holistic Tree. I have an 80 year old California sycamore that SCE always wants to hack away at as the tree sits under the power lines. SCE used to have a 4 ft below wires rule & now they want 10 feet. Last year, Ben was able to come out and assess what needed to be done and stay within the guidelines while keeping the shape of the tree. He was meticulous and worked all day on it. His helper spent hours cleaning up the debris and my yard and garden were not destroyed as with other tree trimmers. This year after reading about someone else who had to take out their 90 yr old tree, I panicked as my tree had similar symptoms. Ben came out and calmed my fears and said it shouldn't be a problem. When it comes to trees, Ben is the most knowledgeable person I've been able to find in our area, the go to guy for anything tree related. About 5 years ago we purchased a property about an acre big with 30+ mature fruit trees. The previous owners were very old and took less and less care of the trees, and by the time the property got to us it was a big mess - a lot of the trees had already died, and the remaining ones were in bad shape. I had hired a different arborist first to help with the trees, but that guy only made things worse. He sprayed all the trees with chemicals that killed all the beneficial insects and the trees got even worse. So I had to fire him, thankfully was able to find Ben 4 years ago and everything took a huge turn positive turn since we hired him. Ben helps us not just with tree trimmings, but also by giving very important pointers with what I should be doing long term to make sure the trees are happy, things like installing drip irrigation, applying mulch, adding flowers/bushes to attract beneficial insects, addressing various tree diseases/pests without the use of chemicals and pesticides. He seems to always make the right call whatever problem we encounter with trees, and our trees and the whole property is getting better every year. My husband contacted Ben a few weeks back. At first we thought we needed to hire someone with a bucket since we have a Jacaranda tree that is very tall. After speaking with a few prospective companies we realized most don't use buckets any longer, so we went back to Ben (who apparently doesn't use a bucket either so we had at first thought we wouldn't be able to hire him), and asked for a quote. The woman who answered the phone when we initially reached out told us he charges a consultation fee. We knew what we wanted done and given that we were aware the job would be at least $1000, if not more, we just wanted to begin with a quote. Sounds reasonable, right?? We have owned our home for over a decade and no trades-person, whether it's been an electrician, a plumber, painters, or other tree services, have ever charged a consultation fee. We have always gotten a free estimate. All it would have taken was to stop by our place and spend 15 minutes or so taking a look at the trees. Ben didn't seem willing to do that. He asked us to send photos. We did. He texted back and asked us our "goals" for the trees (4 total that we wanted work done on). We told him our goals. Perhaps we used the wrong wording, as we said we wanted one tree "topped". We are happy for someone who knows what they are doing to take the lead and trim the tree as they see fit and would have given Ben that leeway. He responded back that he doesn't top trees. Fine. My husband then asked again what his quote would be, now that he had seen the photos. Nothing. Nada. No response. We consider this to be very unprofessional behavior. Ghosting a prospective customer is shitty, and dumb too because then you get reviews like this. read more

This is not a basic tree trimming service, this is a certified arborist (tree expert). I had them out for fruit tree pruning and it was clear they knew how to look after the long-term health, fruit production, and beauty of several different varieties of fruit trees. They knew how to prune an apple tree differently than a peach tree, spotted and removed borer pests, and made strategic pruning cuts to shape future growth. I couldn't be happier with the results and it was well worth the money. They were also exactly on time, cleaned up after themselves, gave me advice on how I could care for the trees, and charged a fair price for their level of expertise. Ben came out to my property to help improve the health of my Owari satsuma tangerine tree. It hadn't been pruned and was snapping in many places and hanging on the ground. The tree trunk was literally bent over 45 degrees. I suggested it be propped up but Ben wanted to prune it up to even it out, remove dead wood and split wood first. To my surprise, the tree stands up completely on its own now! I am beyond thrilled that it can stand on its own and now has been balanced out. He said he even left some growth in there for sunburn protection! He was clearly focused on the long-term growth and health of the tree, which makes a lot of sense. read more

Ben was a big help. We had trouble with both an apricot and an Angel's Trumpet tree. Apparently a combination of switching to a drought-resistant landscaping, plus the presence of a hungry beetle were wreaking havoc on two of our favorite trees! Ben spent a lot of time, checked the irrigation system to see if they were getting enough water, climbed onto the apricot tree to get a closer look at the predatory beetle and gave great recommendations for all plants and trees on the property that he noticed might be in need. At the end, he asked if there were any other plants or trees about which I might still have questions. He was very thorough and worth every penny. He even called a couple of weeks ago to see how everything was working out...and did NOT remind me that he hoped I might post a review. Classy!
