I have enlisted the services of LB Holistic Tree several times beginning in 2018 when I sought an expert opinion on the health and safety of a large city Eucalyptus tree on the parkway outside my house. Ben thoughtfully assessed the tree (safe for now!) and proceeded to review all of the trees on my property and provide recommendations for care and services where needed. I have had Ben visit several times since - once to asses an old elm tree and once to help bring back to health a beloved avocado tree. In each case Ben delivered expert consultation for the immediate need as well as examining all the trees and bushes on the property, providing reasonable recommendations. LB Holistic Tree has become an important part of our regular landscaping routine. read more

I was worried about my Japanese maple tree and I don't believe that knew what was wrong with it. He blamed it on the watering, but the plant app on my phone said the tree had brown spot. He said my plumeria was not giving enough water, but the plant app on my phone said it was getting too much water. I guess I just didn't trust his opinion read more

Where do I even begin?!? Three years ago, I took a splice from my grandmother's lemon tree -- a woman who meant the absolute world to me -- and I have poured my heart and soul into growing it ever since. This little tree is so much more than a plant to me; it's a living piece of her. This Christmas, all I wanted was someone to come check on my tree and give me real guidance. My husband found Ben at LB Holistic Trees, and honestly? Best. Gift. Ever. Ben spent over an hour with me -- not rushing, not glossing over things -- actually teaching me. We talked soil, bugs, nutrients, long-term care, all of it. He had me out there digging in the dirt with my sweet heirloom tree and I was LIVING for it. He even took a look at my kumquat and gave incredible advice I never would have found on my own. The vibe was just so warm, fun, and genuine. You can tell this man truly loves what he does. He's patient, wildly knowledgeable, and the kind of person who makes you feel like your tree -- and your story behind it -- actually matters to him. If you care about your trees (and especially if they mean something more to you), call Ben. I cannot say enough great things about LB Holistic Trees. So grateful our paths crossed! read more

My next door neighbor was having his trees trimmed. While he was finishing up, I asked for an estimate on trimming a large jacaranda tree. Ben knew his craft and eager to share his knowledge and experience. He gave excellent advice and I got more than I paid for. Highly recommended. read more

We are having sudden changes in our ornamental pear tree, so we called Ben for a consultation. He was extremely informative and walked us through our options for treatment. He clearly loves trees, and we feel very secure in his recommendations. Ben didn't try to sell us anything and gave us an honest assessment of the health of our tree. He also shared advice about other trees on our property. We will absolutely call him for future tree needs. Highly recommend. read more

Could not recommend Ben and his company more highly. He is a pleasure to work with, flexible, reasonably priced, and does a great job. He is so much fun to talk to about trees and so knowledgeable, I almost wish I had more trees to be trimmed. read more

We have been using LB Holistic Tree service for many years, four or five I think. Ben takes care of not only for our 100 year old Eucalyptus trees, but also fruit trees, parkway trees, aging trees that are past their prime, and shaping of newly planted trees. Ben is responsive to both emergencies and routine pruning. His knowledge of trees that grow well in Long Beach is exhaustive, and when the time came to replace trees, he gave us good advice. I believe in staying ahead of the pruning so that the City tree trimmers will drive right by. No disrespect to the city, there are a lot of parkway trees and they don't have the budget to have a certified arborist. Ben has creative ideas for shaping trees, and has a light touch. When a job was too big for him, he helped us find someone who could handle the project. I cannot recommend Ben of LB HOlistic Tree enough. He is coming soon for an annual "prune up" and we look forward to his visit and learning more. read more

No lollipop tree cutting here! Its always a good sign when your tree man knows more than you do about your own trees as well as the scientific names of the neighbors' trees. Working with Ben was a two day process. The first day was the initial paid consultation which was worth every penny. We walked my whole property discussed all my trees not just the ones I was planning on having pruned. I learned a lot! He also gave me online resources for me to study up on better pruning techniques for my Santa Rosa Plum tree that I am taking care of myself. The second day he and his friend Ty came and got to work on my 30+ft Ginko Biloba and my almost as big Chinese Elm. They did a beautiful job shaping the tree. What I really appreciated was that Ben listened to what I wanted my trees to do for my garden, block the streetlight here, hide the neighbors there etc. With that in mind they took care of it. I look forward to working with him in the future. read more

On his latest trip to our property in the Rose Park neighborhood of Long Beach, Ben did his usual outstanding work trimming our trees. I wouldn't even consider turning to anyone else for tree care! read more

We first met Ben in 2017 when we were looking for someone to diagnose what was wrong with the tree at our rental property, and what remedies might be available. Ben was thorough in his examination and honest in his outlook--the tree couldn't be saved. But we were impressed with his knowledge and forthrightness. Since then, whenever our trees have needed attention. We've turned to LB Holistic Tree because we know we can count on Ben to answer our questions and keep our trees healthy. We see him twice yearly when he prunes and shapes our beloved California pepper tree. Additionally, he's referred us to other experts when we need more specialized help, and he even wrote up a recommendation for health maintenance and treatment for our red bud tree. The yard is always clean of debris when he leaves, which is so important when you're looking for a professional Ben is kind, easy to work with, and very honest--you can tell ethics and integrity are important to him. You simply can't go wrong when you choose LB Holistic Tree when you need work done. Ben will take good care of you, and more importantly, your trees. read more

So happy to have found Ben with LB Holistic Tree. I have an 80 year old California sycamore that SCE always wants to hack away at as the tree sits under the power lines. SCE used to have a 4 ft below wires rule & now they want 10 feet. Last year, Ben was able to come out and assess what needed to be done and stay within the guidelines while keeping the shape of the tree. He was meticulous and worked all day on it. His helper spent hours cleaning up the debris and my yard and garden were not destroyed as with other tree trimmers. This year after reading about someone else who had to take out their 90 yr old tree, I panicked as my tree had similar symptoms. Ben came out and calmed my fears and said it shouldn't be a problem. He was right, the tree looks the healthiest it has in years. Leaves greened out beautifully and its shape, that Ben created last year, is perfect. Ben has amazing tree knowledge. I found out he also works on all the trees in a friend's yard and was able to save a couple of theirs which might not have made it without Ben's attention and advice. read more

When it comes to trees, Ben is the most knowledgeable person I've been able to find in our area, the go to guy for anything tree related. About 5 years ago we purchased a property about an acre big with 30+ mature fruit trees. The previous owners were very old and took less and less care of the trees, and by the time the property got to us it was a big mess - a lot of the trees had already died, and the remaining ones were in bad shape. I had hired a different arborist first to help with the trees, but that guy only made things worse. He sprayed all the trees with chemicals that killed all the beneficial insects and the trees got even worse. So I had to fire him, thankfully was able to find Ben 4 years ago and everything took a huge turn positive turn since we hired him. Ben helps us not just with tree trimmings, but also by giving very important pointers with what I should be doing long term to make sure the trees are happy, things like installing drip irrigation, applying mulch, adding flowers/bushes to attract beneficial insects, addressing various tree diseases/pests without the use of chemicals and pesticides. He seems to always make the right call whatever problem we encounter with trees, and our trees and the whole property is getting better every year. So I highly recommend him for anyone looking to take good care of trees. read more

This is not a basic tree trimming service, this is a certified arborist (tree expert). I had them out for fruit tree pruning and it was clear they knew how to look after the long-term health, fruit production, and beauty of several different varieties of fruit trees. They knew how to prune an apple tree differently than a peach tree, spotted and removed borer pests, and made strategic pruning cuts to shape future growth. I couldn't be happier with the results and it was well worth the money. They were also exactly on time, cleaned up after themselves, gave me advice on how I could care for the trees, and charged a fair price for their level of expertise. If you want a few limbs whacked off, go with a tree trimmer -- if you want a long-term partner for successful, beautiful trees, go with this team. read more

My husband contacted Ben a few weeks back. At first we thought we needed to hire someone with a bucket since we have a Jacaranda tree that is very tall. After speaking with a few prospective companies we realized most don't use buckets any longer, so we went back to Ben (who apparently doesn't use a bucket either so we had at first thought we wouldn't be able to hire him), and asked for a quote. The woman who answered the phone when we initially reached out told us he charges a consultation fee. We knew what we wanted done and given that we were aware the job would be at least $1000, if not more, we just wanted to begin with a quote. Sounds reasonable, right?? We have owned our home for over a decade and no trades-person, whether it's been an electrician, a plumber, painters, or other tree services, have ever charged a consultation fee. We have always gotten a free estimate. All it would have taken was to stop by our place and spend 15 minutes or so taking a look at the trees. Ben didn't seem willing to do that. He asked us to send photos. We did. He texted back and asked us our "goals" for the trees (4 total that we wanted work done on). We told him our goals. Perhaps we used the wrong wording, as we said we wanted one tree "topped". We are happy for someone who knows what they are doing to take the lead and trim the tree as they see fit and would have given Ben that leeway. He responded back that he doesn't top trees. Fine. My husband then asked again what his quote would be, now that he had seen the photos. Nothing. Nada. No response. We consider this to be very unprofessional behavior. Ghosting a prospective customer is shitty, and dumb too because then you get reviews like this. read more

Ben came out to my property to help improve the health of my Owari satsuma tangerine tree. It hadn't been pruned and was snapping in many places and hanging on the ground. The tree trunk was literally bent over 45 degrees. I suggested it be propped up but Ben wanted to prune it up to even it out, remove dead wood and split wood first. To my surprise, the tree stands up completely on its own now! I am beyond thrilled that it can stand on its own and now has been balanced out. He said he even left some growth in there for sunburn protection! He was clearly focused on the long-term growth and health of the tree, which makes a lot of sense. read more

Ben is knowledgeable and honest. We highly recommend him! Your trees are an asset to your property and should be maintained thoughtfully.

I believe it would be hard to find a more thorough and caring arborist! Ben came and inspected our three stone fruit trees, avocado and citrus. Had recommendations and solutions for our entire back yard - which unfortunately including removing one beetle infested plum tree. His quote was VERY reasonable and completed all the work in a half day - including clean up. We are so impressed with Ben's work that we booked him for next year for a check up! Highly recommend Ben if you have any growth, production or pest issues with your trees! read more

Ben was exceptional from the initial consultation to the time he completed all his work. We had a fruitless pear tree with Fire Blight and also needed an additional tree pruned. Ben was very thorough with his inspection of our trees. He was up front and honest about our needs and treatment options and was very easy to work with. After completing the work, Ben cleaned up and left our yard and trees looking fantastic! Definitely will use him again in the future and we would recommend Ben to anyone. read more

Happy to leave this 5 star review for Ben. Though we did not hire him, because we didn't need to, this feedback is for how he handled my phone inquiry. He not only returned my call very quickly but advised me over the phone on what best to do given our situation. He listened carefully and was able to advise us over the phone, giving me tips on what to do and what not to do. In our case, our fruit trees had termites and he gave us different reasons on how this could have happened (which turned out to be excellent education and tipped us off on how to avoid creating the problem to begin with.) He's quite knowledgeable. Highly recommend him to the yelp community. read more

Checked out our five trees; told us how to best prune them and care for them - (don't water at the tree base after established) - and what to plant, or not plant, underneath. Also recommended organic pest control options and soil amendment. Love this service! read more

Ben came out today and did a fantastic job. He pruned our mature avocado tree, Crepe Myrtle and inspected and trimmed the city tree in front of out house. Ben is beyond amazing! He spent hours with me trimming, releasing helpful bugs & painting (I am sure the one & only time in his lifetime doing this) the sunburn areas of my large avocado tree. Not only does he have a special way with trees, he is very knowledgeable and so fun to talk to. I am sure I added hours because of my yapping! After 1 month, my tree is coming back with a vengeance. LB Holistic Tree - Looking good after 1 month! Getting so much fuller now. - Tree Services Near Me - Long Beach, California

I'm an ISA Certified Arborist (WE-10547-A) and I've worked with Ben from LB Holistic Tree on a handful of landscape projects. I've seen Ben excel at pruning and pest identification, and he has experience working with challenging (and even toxic) soils, using biology rather than chemicals to arrive at solutions. I really appreciate his attitude, always positive and looking for ways to maximize the benefit for his customers. So many times landscapers hack trees and have no clue about approaching trees as a whole system (roots, shoots, soil, irrigation, pests, pollinators, beneficial insects). Ben takes a different approach and comes from this wider angle view of how we can guide trees to health using the tools nature has provided. I highly recommend giving LB Holistic Tree a call for your local tree care needs. read more

Ben was a big help. We had trouble with both an apricot and an Angel's Trumpet tree. Apparently a combination of switching to a drought-resistant landscaping, plus the presence of a hungry beetle were wreaking havoc on two of our favorite trees! Ben spent a lot of time, checked the irrigation system to see if they were getting enough water, climbed onto the apricot tree to get a closer look at the predatory beetle and gave great recommendations for all plants and trees on the property that he noticed might be in need. At the end, he asked if there were any other plants or trees about which I might still have questions. He was very thorough and worth every penny. He even called a couple of weeks ago to see how everything was working out...and did NOT remind me that he hoped I might post a review. Classy! So here I am, of my own volition, writing a much-deserved, 5-star review for Ben. We hope we don't need him again, but if our yard shows any more signs of struggle, we will call him sooner than later! read more

Ben is a very nice guy. He's prompt, courteous and honest. Unfortunately, our job was far too large for his current capabilities.

We are so happy with our first experience having Ben properly trim our Eucalyptus tree. It was a mess after our gardener completely removed all of the branches with leaves a couple years ago. It had grown out but was too thick and starting to grow over our neighbor's garage and into power lines. He cleaned it up, thinned it out and re-directed it to grow up and away from garage and power lines. read more
