Layla's is a hidden gem. The food is superb and service is excellent. The butter chicken is the best I have ever had.

We got delivery of goat korma and shrimp vindaloo, with veggie samosas and garlic naan. Everything was good- the shrimp was fairly overdone, but the curry itself was great and the portion was generous enough that I'll have midnight snack leftovers or lunch tomorrow. The korma wasn't as seasoned as it could be, with bones on the meat, but the flavor was good, and it wasn't a bad korma overall. The samosas were phenomenal, in the top 3 we've ever had, and the tamarind chutney is killer. We'd come back. read more

Based on yelp reviews we went with a chicken and veggie samosa to start. Literally the best samosa I've had. It was soft and filled with a lot of goodness!! So this came as surprise. I was passing by and saw this place and thought to give it a try. There was no buffet. Thats only on Friday-Sunday. Nice place, kept very clean. I was surprised, since I did not expected . 5 stars for the interior and cleanliness. Ordered Chicken Do Pyaza, since did not wanted to eat any creamy dish. Within 10 mins my order was there. I was delighted with the first look of food. Nice and simple presented as they do back in India. The first bite of the food took me years back when I had good Indian food back in India. So much impressed. Naan was done perfectly. Dish comes with saffron flavoured rice . Chicken was loaded with flavours and my personal favourite slices of ginger. We've never really had a favorite Indian restaurant in Columbus. Until now. Layla's kitchen is definitely top notch, and will be our go-to choice for such food from here on out. What really stands out is that the flavors of the dishes seem particularly complex. Rather than hit you over the head with just butter, spicy, or creamy, the dishes here are significantly more complex. Plus, the naan here is excellent. It has the perfect combination of textures. Crispy on the bottom, and light and fluffy up top. We've also been pleased with the spice level when we've visited, although we have stressed that we definitely like things spicy. Thankfully, they've always trusted us and prepared our dishes accordingly. We've not yet tried the week buffet, but it appears to be available on both Saturday and Sunday. Hey man, this place was really good, and the vindaloo was properly spicy (I went with hot, and it was, in fact, hot.) It seems like perhaps Layla's Kitchen trends more towards hot than mild, so you might want to consider dropping the spiciness level down one if you don't like capsaicin. If you do, however, then it's all systems go. Palak Paneer, Aloo Mutter, some kind of daal, garlic naan; all of it was good. I would call the portion sizes 'average' given the cost. Absolutely delicious buffet. I could eat an entire plate of the chicken with the chili. Some of the best naan I have ever had, very flavorful food with a terrific variety. I gave it a second try after rating it two stars. It really is awful and apparently will stay that way. I really wanted them to go back to their original food, but I guess microwave store bought taste is all they can do. The staff is super nice but the food is just not good anymore. Purchased 3 meals and only got 2 containers of rice, I've seen skimping on rice before but never to this extent. I also ordered my tikka masala as a 6/6 or 10/10, as I wasn't sure what their scale was, and it has absolutely no spiciness to it. We'll be looking around for a different option next time we're craving Indian food. read more

Based on the reviews we were very excited to try this place but unfortunately it did not meet our expectations:( Malai kofta's sauce was too sour and veggie balls were kind of spongy which was very different from other places. Samosa was very good and dishes with goat are rare to come by. I liked it. read more

I ordered from Layla's a second time over the weekend. This time I ordered the butter chicken with medium spice, tandoori chicken, chicken samosa, and two orders of garlic naan. The butter chicken was much better with medium spice. I also had additional raisins and cashews added. Very good. The tandoori chicken was juicy with just enough spice. It was served with grilled peppers - nice touch. The chicken samosa was not what I expected. Before biting in, it appeared to somewhat resemble a samosa. However, after taking the first bite I realized that it was nothing like any type of samosa I've had before. I wish I had taken a picture. I believe it was finely ground chicken mixed with finely scrambled egg. I didn't finish it. The mint chutney was good though. Unlike with my first order, the naan did not seem fresh. In fact, two pieces were hard. Another piece was half missing. Not sure what happened, but I have never had fresh naan served rock hard. Quite disappointing. read more

My wife and I eat at Layla's for the first time tonight. The food was delicious and priced very well. We will definitely return in the near future especially since our other favorite Indian restaurant, Aangan India Bistro, appears to have permanently closed. Three Stars for the Buffet At least for the buffet, Layla doesn't stand up to its excellent rating. There were a couple of things I liked about my meal, such as the chaat-samosa bar. The hostess also cleared our plates rather than making us head back to buffet with used plates; it's not a big deal, but it was a thoughtful gesture. Naan was fluffy and good. But the food was only okay (even for a buffet) with a truncated selection. Chicken biryani was just basmati rice with sparsely random bits of non-meat chicken. Most of all, the buffet area was not lighted, so it was hard to see the food, especially that in the rear row. Not being able to know what I'm scooping/grabbing with tongs was just not appealing. If the à là carte menu is a lot better, let me know. But right now there's not much incentive for a re-visit. read more

I've passed this restaurant in a small strip mall almost every week and never noticed it. It's a small, unassuming place with friendly service. I ordered one of my favorite Indian dishes - saag paneer (with shrimp). The dish wasn't as rich as I've had it before and it also had tomatoes which I'd not previously seen in this dish. I did enjoy the flavor though it isn't the best I've had. I had a mango lassi for my drink which was great and some rice pudding for dessert which I also enjoyed. One thing to mention, I ordered my dish with no spice, but, it was still spicy to the point that I was constantly taking sips of my lassi for relief. If you like spice, that isn't a problem, but be aware if you can't take much spice like me read more

Being a foodie and scoured most of the indian restaurants in Columbus area, this place was a wonderful surprise! Tastes are accurate, totally delicious, staff are pleasant and the whole experience was delightful. We tasted the buffet and every item was awesome. The chef and staff are from Assam and they really are doing a great job. I guarantee that the food is better than most big restaurants in Columbus. I plan to order catering soon from them. read more

A wonderful spot on the northside of Columbus recommended to me by a local. I had the baingan bharta and pickles (very different from American pickles, just an FYI if you didn't know). I often find myself craving lamb chops. Sadly though, not too many places have GOOD lamb chops on their menus. And if they do, often they are overcooked, chewy, or small. It's rare that I've had too many positive experiences with Lamb chops during my travels. Layla's chops kind of fell into that category for me. I will say they were super tender and meaty. But my issue was how heavily they were seasoned. They literally had a layer of masalas coating it. I also had the Chicken 65, which was your typical Chicken 65. Nothing to write home about. But their chicken samosa was pretty darn tasty. For me, this was a solid 3.5 stars. But I always round up, especially for independent businesses. read more

I pretty much love everything about this place except it's location... because it's so far away from me. We were here on a Friday night, and it was dead by the time we arrived, so we had the place to ourselves and were able to chat a bit with the server who was very friendly. The menu's pretty large, and they have a lot of different choices in each category, so it will take you a bit to figure out what to order. We ended up going with a bit of everything. We started off with beef and chicken sambusas along with the Chicken 65. This was my first time trying Chicken 65, and it for sure won't be the last time. My girlfriend and I both loved it. The little nuggets of fried chicken mixed in with green chiles had almost a faint BBQ sauce flavor that I actually really enjoyed. The sambusas were both tasty as well; very crispy on the outside and tender meat on the inside with a great dipping sauce. For my main course I went with the Goat Bhuna which is a delicious dish created from, I believe, pan fried ginger, garlic, and onions and some other ingredients that are rendered down to form a paste. Whatever else was in it was delicious, and the goat was incredibly tender and falling right off the bones (Yes, the goat does come on the bone, but that adds to the flavor!). We had ordered garlic naan and onion kulcha to mix in with the entrees, and they were both fantastic as well. Those, plus the basmati rice mixed all together equals amazing. My girlfriend had the chicken vindaloo and really liked it as well, and it had quite a bit of a kick. Note: You can ask them to make any dish on the menu spicier if you want. I did with my goat, but I think it could have been kicked up a notch, so don't be afraid to tell them so. I finished the meal with some gulab jamun, which I probably didn't need since I was already too full to finish my rice. However, I love these warm little milk based balls covered in syrup. They come four to an order, and you should get something cool like rice pudding to offset it, because that makes for some great flavor contrast (I wish I had done this). You have have HAVE to try Layla's if you like Indian food and especially if you've only had buffets from Aab or the like around town. Everything here is made to order, and the guys running it seem to really take pride in everything they do. We over heard one of the guys getting a bit upset because someone's dish wasn't the way they wanted, but rest assured my friend, you're doing a great job! read more

When we pulled up, my daughter and I were a little concerned because the parking lot was empty but we decided to give it a go. We walked in and we were greeted by a very polite and courteous man who seemed genuinely pleased to have us there. It was a buffet style lunch. My daughter had the chicken Tikka Masala, which was extremely delicious. The highlight of the food for me was the lamb curry. All of the food was delicious but I wish there was a bigger variety (I'm guessing this was because we came during lunch). We received a cup of chai on the house, which added to the over all service. The naan was fresh and delicious. The resturant was nicely decorated and very clean. We only paid $27 for a buffet for 2. I would definitely recommend and will be returning. read more

We visited this place after reading some great reviews. A decent place claims to serve authentic Indian Cuisine but.....Here is my experience with Layla's Kitchen. The person at the counter is very nice and friendly, we ordered Mango Lassi, Kadhai Paneer and Chicken Korma with garlic naan. I am most disappointed with the Mango Lassi and Kadhai Paneer. Mango Lassi was awful, yes awful !! If you have tried Mango Lassi at most of the Indian restaurants in Columbus then this place is a huge disappointment. I am a big fan of Paneer dishes and can't stand anyone who mess up with it. Kadhai Paneer was nothing but big chunks of green pepper, red pepper and tomato over few pieces of paneer. Who puts tomato chunks in Kadhai Paneer?? And let's not talk about Chicken Korma, which was flavorless.. For me it was not at all an authentic experience. read more

After several minutes of inner turmoil on what to order, I finally went with the waitress's suggestion of Chicken Jalfrezi. Why? After several narrow-down questions, she suggested I go with this dish because the savory tastes and lots of veggies! The dish was fresh and hot. Good flavors. Unfortunately, it had too much tomato for my likings. Funny, I had a taste of Anna's vegetarian spinach dish, and man was that good! No "sharp tasting" ingredients. The spinach was really great. Of course, every dish here can be made to your desired spivey level. Anna's was medium, and that worked perfect. I'd like to return for that entree alone. Oh, and yeah, their naan? Unbelievable! This spot was pretty good. I enjoyed the meal that I had here. I got the Chicken Tikka, the naan with the lamb and the garlic naan. The meal was cooked to utter perfection. No complaints from me on that. The meat was moist and somewhat tender. The herbs and spices were well put together to create an awesome cacophony of flavors that tantilized your four senses of: Sight because it looked so appetizing, Touch because your were able to pull the meat apart with a slight tug, smell because it cause it caused your mouth to water and to want to dig in and last but certainly not least Taste because it was just so freaking delicious. I have found a new favorite Indian cuisine spot that I will be frequenting. The service was great. The gentleman at the front desk really took the time to guide me through making my selection. I checked out Layla's for lunch last week with a couple coworkers. It's a very small restaurant that's not ideal for large parties, but one did arrive while we were there, and they were able to squeeze them in there. We started with the Chicken 65. It reminded me of a peppery and unsweetened General Tso's. It was pretty good, but didn't feel like an appetizer. I'd rather eat it with rice. The goat khorma was very rich and tasty. If there was ever a such thing as too much heavy cream, this came pretty close to it. The garlic naan is something I'll order again. While it's not expensive, you can stretch your dollar a little bit further at other restaurants, buffets in particular. The food here is better though. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. read more
