It's been a while since I was there. I like Dr. Schall: definitely old-school practictioner. I have been for two different issues: one he healed super-fast, the other he misdiagnosed. In his defense, it is a pretty rare condition and it had not fully developed it's characteristic look. Dermatology is sometimes a waiting game. Frozen skull. Well it is like getting your head frozen. This is the place. Yup....they freeze the cancer cells off with.....I don't know...some type of freon I guess. Well that's what it feels like, because I've dealt with freon before. I guess these things are necessary because I never wore hats when I was younger to protect my head. Dr. Schall is might be knowledgable in dermatology... but he doesn't treat your skin with care! The reason I'm giving a 1 star review is because of the way he removed my moles and it healed. I had two moles that I wanted to get removed. One on my leg and one on my back. I heard that the correct way to remove it is to shave it off, or cut it out and stitch the skin together. Dr. Schall went ahead and cut a big hole in my skin. He also didn't stitch it back together so just think of a big piece of skin about like 2 mm deep just missing..... Yeah, it's gross and scary. So after a few months, after using the scar cream that he gave me, the scar never went away. The scars are really ugly and the back one is raised like a bubble. The one on my leg sometimes becomes raised too. I even went back to show him my scars and he told me to just keep using the scar cream. It has been almost a year and the scars still look the same... I honestly regret going to Dr. Schall to get my moles removed. He didn't care about how my skin would look after and pretty much mutilated my skin. read more

For starters, Dr. Schall is a nice guy. I had gone to 2 other dermatologists beforehand but Dr. Schall is by far the is most caring and considerate of the 3. In my honest opinion however, he did not have the solution for my mild cystic acne. Despite suggesting my interest in accutane, Dr. Schall prescribed me 100 mg of Doxycycline twice a day for a month. By the end of the month, the improvement in my face was barely noticeable, but noticeable. The only downside was that my chest and back which had always been clear, was now breaking out. So Dr. Schall switched me to Monocycle 100 mg twice a day for a month. The night following my first Minocycline pill, I immediately felt like something was different with my face. The best way I can describe it is that I for once felt like my skin was more immune to acne. My current breakouts began to subside with Minocycline but I would still break out over the course of the month. Overall, I would say Minocycline was a temporary solution and would have only cleared my face to about 85-90%. Unfortunately over the course of the month on Minocycline however, the acne on my chest go SO MUCH WORSE. I had the clearest chest and back but Minocycline I suspect led to a bunch of small zits all over my chest and back that have since scarred. I was upset, and upon my next appointment, I told Dr. Schall who prior to my chest/back acne reveal had explained that he wanted to put me on a second month of Minocycline. Instead, he switched me to Bactrim. Bactrim was as if I was taking nothing at all for my face. My acne returned to normal in the ensuing week prior to first seeing Dr. Schall. I tried to set up an appointment to see him ASAP, but his schedule is - for a lack of words - wonky at Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4pm ish? Anyways, my acne was getting really out of hand again and I had no other choice but to see another dermatologist who after hearing all the antibiotics I had taken, prescribed me accutane. Overall, I have nothing against Dr. Schall. He is a good doctor, but just like his office - he is old school. Again, this is my opinion at only 3 appointments, but to me he is a trial and error doctor. I'm sure Dr. Schall would have found something that would have helped my acne, but as a college student, I do not have all the time in the world for trial and error treatments, especially with how much acne has emotionally drained me. read more

With all due respect, my experience with Dr. Shall was horrible. He barely listened toe when I discussed my experience with other medications and quickly made assumptions, disregarding that I've been treating my acne for the past years and with good dermatologist have been successful at maintaining it. When I asked for a long term solution he went around the question and prescribed more medication, knowing that I already had prescriptions at home. I felt that he wanted me to simply get more prescriptions and use more things without describing the benefit of switching over. His courtesy and manners are way off of what I expect from a doctor. I wish he had been through like the Yelp comments state he is, but it surely was anything but that. He wasn't too technical in explaining when I asked him comparisons and differences between and when I asked for his opinion on it being hormonal and seeing an endocrinologist. He said to get on some birth control pills, which I understand but wasn't my question . On the topic of courteousness, while waiting I could hear the entire conversation next door about a patient with possible cancerous moles that went on for a while without consideration of privacy. Same for my case as he left the door open and was speaking very loudly until I looked over to the door in hopes of him shutting it at the least. Disappointed by far. Felt like a waste of time and I won't be going back. Unfortunately he's one of the only dermatologist in my area that take my insurance (a whole other issue in itself). Dr. Larry Schall is an excellent doctor. I was a patient of his father, Dr. Sid Schall. When anyone in my family needs help with skin, we turn to Larry. He's helped with rashes, bug bites, crazy kid things, he has even done a biopsey or two for us. We talk about, "the magic shot". Frequently, after a visit, you get a tiny injection in your arm. They've told me what it is, but I've forgotten. ...(if you're a Saturday night live fan 'it's a great drug called ...PLACEBO'). Honestly, I'm sure it's not a placebo and Dr. Larry tells the nurse what he wants you to have. I just know I feel 'all better' after I get the shot. It seems to 'kick-start' recovery. Even without the shot, I feel 'all better' after a visit to Dr. Schall's. He has a steady hand, is very bright and very caring. Dr. Schall is the first dermatologist I turn to, Especially for the unknown. And, yes, he is helpful with samples and keeping the bill low. We have insurance which pays if we go elsewhere but we go to Dr. Larry and pay cash. He's worth it. read more

My 94 year old grandmother has a terrible itchy rash on her chest. She asked me to find her a dermatologist. I found Dr.Schall on Yelp and was impressed with his reviews. I was nervous about finding her a Dr. because she pretty much hates everyone and I dont know how long I would have to deal with her complaining about how come I looked on Yelp and how it was a waste of her time. Thankfully she loved Dr.Schall. He was very kind and explained to my grandmother what she had and gave her a shot and some prescriptions. Now I am a super hero for finding such an amazing Dr. Dr Scall told us his father was in the same building practicing dermatology when he was just 4 years old. I love this doctor. He is knowledgeable and really put me at ease. I went to another derm regarding a mole on my back. He told me it could be cancer and that he will scrap off PART of my tiny mole for biopsy and that I could return for entire mole removal later as it would require stitches. Dr SCHALL was so nonchalant. He said my mole has a 1/100 chance of becoming cancer and that he can remove it right now during visit. He gave me a quick shot and took all of it out. That was it! It was so easy. Done and done. No bs about scrap half then return and stitch the rest. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. I waited 5 minutes and was done with the entire visit in 21 minutes !!! read more

I recently had a business trip out of town in Florida and had a terrible allergic reaction to something. I broke out with hundreds of bumps on the back of my arms and legs, as well as hives on my thighs. All of this lasted 5 days before I decided to go see someone. I had been looking for a new dermatologist for quite some time. I stumbled across Dr. Schall on yelp and I am so happy I did! The gal I spoke to on the phone was kind, friendly and sympathetic. She was very accommodating and got me in right away. The building was easy to find along with easy parking. I walk in and was greeted by two friendly girls at the front desk. I signed in and provided my insurance information. I wasn't in the waiting room for more than 5 or so minutes before I was called back and brought into a room. I did not have to wait at all which is perfect. The Dr. came in right away. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and pretty funny actually. He knew exactly what was wrong, guessed what I had a reaction to and was right. He prescribed me a few items and even called the prescriptions in himself! He suggested I go to a little place up the street from his office so I didn't have to wait plus said they were less expensive than CVS. Sounded right up my alley! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Schall. My symptoms cleared up within a few days after my visit. Also as a side note, I had forgotten to cancel my follow up appointment. When I called in today and apologized that I didn't realize two weeks had passed so quickly, they did not give me a hard time, were very nice yet again and canceled my appointment with no hassle. read more

I was suffering from these horrible blisters that appeared on my back and spread out to my shoulder. It was so inflammed and embarassing that I had to cover up my skin. I was scared to seek a dermatologist because I've heard how expensive they can be and I do not have insurance. So I went to doctor after doctor and got fed up because they had no clue what was wrong with me. So, I discovered Dr. Schall's office on this site ( Thanks to the review below me). I was nervous when I first came here because I thought he would not know what to do with my skin. But he knew what I had and gave me the proper treatment i needed so that my skin can heal up. After two weeks my inflammed blisters were gone! I could not be much happier and the shot he gave me was also very helpful. Even though i have no clue what's in that shot. The doctor himself is very kind, but a little quirky. He always gives me samples i.e. soaps, shampoo and lotion. I end up getting a bag or box with all sorts of samples. He even gave me sample pills and cream for my mild acne :). I truly recommend this doctor because he definitely was a life saver for me. Dr. Shall is a very knowledgeable MD, but I just did not like the fact that he spoke so loudly and kept interrupting me while trying to explain my medical history. I went to Dr. Schall based off of his yelp reviews for a minor skin condition that another dermatologist treated. . . unsuccessfully with various creams and shampoos. I figured I might as well see what my options were with a different dermatologist. Dr. Schall was very nice and professional. After a quick examination he said what I had was common in young, healthy adults and 2 pills would make it go away. 2 PILLS. I was surprised this treatment was even an option because my other dermatologist had never even mentioned this was an option. Dr. Schall wrote me a prescription that cost only $15 to fill (MUCH less than what I'd spent on the other stuff I'd used). Very thankful for Dr. Schall! Plus, as I was leaving, Dr. Schall called in his next patient, an elderly woman, and call her his "favorite patient" and it put the biggest smile on her face and caused her to giggle and my heart almost exploded out of my chest it was so cute. read more

After reading all of Schall's glowing reviews, I'll admit I was still skeptical. I've been burned by popular dermatologists before, so I didn't expect such a pleasant visit. My appointment was at 9am, and Dr Schall walked in at 9am on the dot - ready to see his patients. He called in his own patients two at a time, and he greeted both of us with a smile. As I waited, it was clear that the man had a loud, booming voice but it wasn't offensive. When it was my turn, he seemed very eager to listen to my problems and help in any way he could. I adored his eccentricity, too! I will not disclose what kind of issues it is that I walked in for, but I will say that Dr Schall addressed them all and proved to be very knowledgable and informative. At the end of my appointment, he handed me a bag full of samples and gave me a couple of prescriptions along with some vouchers/coupons to get them at discounted rates. Through all the seriousness, I even had a few laughs with the man. By 930am, I had scheduled my follow-up and was already back in my car. It's a world of difference compared to my latest dermatologist who used to have my brother and I wait an hour in the waiting room before calling us into a patient room to wait some more only to send his troupe of interns to address our concerns instead of answering the questions himself! But we kept going back because we assumed it to be the norm and he was a well-known professional. NOPE, never again! Thank goodness for Dr Schall! I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an efficient, straightforward dermatologist. If you have trouble reaching the office, don't give up! It took me a week of calling to finally catch a receptionist to schedule an appointment for a few weeks later, but it was completely worth the wait. read more

Quick, helpful, and (more or less) painless! My boyfriend picked this place because not only did it have five stars, but a reviewer said he never had to wait over ten minutes to be seen. I was a little hesitant, because this place may have earned five stars, but it was out of only seven reviews. Could these reviewers be family members, friends, neighbors? Well, might as well give it a shot. The office is small but cozy, and the decorations may be out dated but it was comfortable and welcoming. My boyfriend looked over and signed the paperwork and sat down. There were to women waiting, both were seen in about fifteen minutes and my boyfriend was seen after. After another thirty minutes, my boyfriend came out. Super painless! The doctor also sent a prescription to a nearby pharmacy that was not even half a mile away, and the doc said that the prescription will be ready by the time we get there. The boyfriend said the doctor examined him and said his skin was reacting to stress, gave him a shot (in the face? Yikes!) and sent over a prescription. After the shot, the boyfriend says, "Wow, I can see a difference!" The doctor thundered, "No you can't! It doesn't work that fast, you crazy?!" I was laughing! Dr.Schall is AMAZING!!!! The reviews aren't lies. I felt just a tad skeptic when originally walking into the office but Dr.Schall is literally the nicest most endearing dermatologist I've ever met. He is so honest and straightforward with you that I immediately fell in love with his tactics. I came to see him with my boyfriend because he needed a small cyst removal done. Now my boyfriend has no insurance so we were paying out of pocket. Upon a quick and thorough examination Dr.Schall told us a surgery would have to be done but if he were to do it he would leave a scar and instead recommended us to two other options of dermatologists who could do it without a scar. He then proceeded to say he wouldn't charge us for this consultation and asked if we wanted free flu shots just for the heck of it. We were in and out in 15 minutes. Fastest, most proficient, and honest doctor out there. Make him your regular dermatologist!!!! P.S. I've been going to Dr. Schall since 2006 and he is WONDERFUL!!!! He's caring, thorough and completely there for his patients. He's helped me get my cystic acne totally under control, giving me back my confidence and sense of self AND he noticed a mark I Never would've seen on the back of my neck that could've developed into skin cancer, if it hadn't been for his thorough care & swift action. Dr. Schall harkens back to a time when doctors REALLY CARED about their patients overall health and wellbeing. I've long since moved away from living near him, but Still drive an hour to his office because in my opinion, no dermatologist comes close! I wish we could clone him and have him be everyone's doctor for everything because he's THAT good and puts his patients First. wow, was i amazed, my appointment was at 3pm but i arrived at 2:30pm instead, filled out a simple first patient form and 2 minutes later i was escorted to another room and immediately Dr. Lawrence Schall came in to see me, i wish all doctors office was like this, patients goes in and comes out right after another without the wait and he was very nice, asked me questions, very professional, unlike most of the doctors i go to, he explained everything in details and was his staff very polite. Treated by Lawrence and father Sydney for 50 years. Excellent care. Having light complexion and years in sun am prone to skin disorders. Lawrence in regular screenings has caught five cancerous growths caught before spreading. Probably saved my life. Pleasant, likeable, calm personality, but aggressive when treatment is necessary. Makes regular screening appointments about every six months. Read one star review of the doctor. Reviewer must have confused Schall with another doctor. Reading the other five star reviews informs who and how Schall really is. He is caring, warm fellow and excellent experienced doctor. I love when you have an appointment somewhere and you actually get seen ON TIME!! I checked in, filled out very little paperwork, was roomed quickly and within 5 mins I was seen by the doctor. After reading all the positive reviews I figured I'd make an appointment. First of all throughout the week I called over 10 times trying to get someone to answer the phone. I've called early in the morning, later in the morning and in the afternoon, in the evening, you get the picture. The answering machine picked up every time. Bad sign. After leaving my name and number and reason for the call, multiple times, I have not received a call back in over 2 weeks? I went to another dermatologist in Pasadena and found it was more interested in Cosmetic elective procedures like Botox rather than skin medicine. Dr. Schall is a great doctor and I trust him because he is a real MD with decades of experience and a great bedside manner. He helped me when I had a skin rash and it cleared up quickly with his recommendations. Definitely a must-see for your dermatology needs. read more

If you don't have insurance than DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!! They will lie to you to get more money. I first called the office to see how much the office visit and removal of two moles would cost. The lady told me $175 for the visit and treatment. I came to see Dr. Lawrence to get two moles removed and they charged me $250 WTF!!! That's not even the worst part. Dr. Lawrence and his staff named Grace told me the lab fee for the biopsy would cost around $40 to $50 max. The bill came up to $258.50. So the total cost is $508.5. DON'T COME HERE, I'm doing you a favor by looking elsewhere. I made a terrible mistake coming here.
