Edward gave me a great short cut today. I sent him photos of what I should have....now, at last, I have it. It's a huge, kind of funky salon tucked away and behind intriguing outdoor curtain shades. Lovely and local if you're lucky enough to live in Altadena. I'd certainly recommend my man for friendliness, competence and price. He got on with the job and that's just what I hoped for. I'll return...maybe for a colour. He recommended an expert f/t colourist in the salon (I appreciate this. I need some colour correction so really do need someone who knows what's what...). UPDATE: I've brought my son here a few times since my first initial review. The barber that we chose was Kusanti, and he appeared to be very professional and very welcoming AT FIRST. Well, he has a 'system' that he prefers for his clients to use a appointment scheduling system. I've used this system a time or two, however, there's a flaw with his system. The first time I used it, my debit card got blocked after scheduling my son's appointment for his hair cut. I thought that was strange, and very suspicious until I spoke with my bank and they were able to solve the issue. The second time I tried scheduling my son an appointment the samething happened, only this time I had a few bills pending that was rejected because my card got blocked yet again. So, instead of continuing to inconvenience myself and not respect his program I started taking my son to a different barber (Blaze on Lake and Rio Grande) he's a little more expensive, but worth it. I brought my son to Kusanti about three weeks ago WITHOUT scheduling an appointment and he seemed to be fine with it. I've been sick for the past week with the flu, so I haven't been able to take my son to Blaze and being that he starts school tomorrow (1-8-2018), I had to get him somewhere fast.....its hard finding barbershops that's open on Sunday's so I take him to Kusanti where I know its going to be open. Well, I send my daughter and my son in as I usually do to see if he could cut my son's hair and about 5 minutes later my daughter comes out upset saying how she felt Kusanti was indirectly talking crap about them just walking in. She said she asked him if he had time to cut her brother's hair and he said yeah. She said soon as they sat down he started talking mess to the kid who's hair he was cutting saying, how people need to respect the system he built and consider him. And, the funny thing is he had no other clients waiting other than my son. I would have respected him more had he told them no from the beginning and told them that they have to schedule an appointment. read more

I got my hair blow dried, pressed, trimmed and flat ironed by Brittney. She definitely knows her stuff. I left looking and feeling like a million bucks!!! She was professional. They open at 6am which is convenient for hair emergencies :-) their prices are fair for the quality of service they provide. I also met Rachel, another stylist who seemed great. On 5/20/16 I went to the salon Lawerance & Colbert which I've always heard good things about since family members of mine have gone. Eddie did my hair which is completely natural I went in for a roller set and a trim, I didn't get a trim he totally butchered my hair. My hair is so short that it will no longer go into a ponytail, I advised I wanted volume which I had when I went in. When I walked out I noticed I no longer had volume, my hair did not look like the cut was professional at all. When I went back to talk to him and Lynn the owner the next day about how Eddie cut my hair and it was supposed to be a trim the was no solution . Eddie offered me my money back, $ 68 which included a tip what can that do for me. When the money I spend on my hair is well above $68 he has set my hair growth back a year and a half. I walked in with a good size Afro and walked out with not even a baby fro. My hair was 10 inches to 11 1/2 in some spots. To walk out with 4-6 inch hair doesn't work for me. I have invested so much money in my hair. I buy the best products and hair vitamins and natural sulfate free products. All that hard work gone to waste down the drain me trusting a professional who says he's been at the salon for 9 years. I'm sick of beautician doing what they want and they get off like nothing happened. If you need to cut 5-6 inches of a clients hair and there a first time customer you consult them and advise you dont just go crazy with shears. Then when I call you on it you say I walked in with no hair and my hair was dead. I don't use heat on my hair I air dry my hair was very healthy . I get it everyone can't do natural hair when I called and advised my hair is natural , he should of advised I don't do natural hair. I saw his barbering skills while I was waiting under the dryer and they were great but what he did to me was tragic. I'm still mourning the lost of all my hard work and dedication that went down the drain. Money that I've spend growing my hair out for a 1 1/2 years of the best products.
