Alicia, the owner, was recommended to me (based on salon location) by a very reputable stylist for color. Sadly, her conduct is a disgrace to the industry. At the end of the day, Alicia's arrogance was the only thing that impressed me. I was specifically seeking out a well seasoned colorist due to scalp sensitivity and very resistant whites. Alicia declined to color my hair though her staff indicated she takes new color clients. This was the first red flag. I gave Alicia's salon a shot for color even after she deferred to a kind but still budding junior stylist (ie needed guidance from Alicia and another senior stylist). Alicia did not disclose that I was seeing a junior member of her team. Second red flag. It turned out the line she recommended (Davines) isn't great at covering whites if you look at stylist forum reviews. And it did burn the nape of my neck when applied. The color itself was nice. Too bad it didn't last beyond two color safe shampoos. Third red flag. Alicia claimed she'd be there on the day of coloring (evidently to guide the stylist) but had a last minute event to attend. Basically showing she didn't give a damn from the start. Although she was willing to "guarantee" the work (ie correction after the stubborn whites I'd told her about before color clearly didn't take)...She was still resistant to coloring my hair herself and was ultimately incredibly rude, unprofessional, and unappreciative of my new patronage when the correction underperformed. I'd reached out to her for ideas (believing she is a master colorist) assuming another session with them in the more distant future. See her text reply below...Perhaps the early career Alicia was more humble and compassionate? When a salon owner responds like Alicia did, it's a reflection of insecurity about the outcome. Glad I paid $100 x 2 for a babysitter plus garage parking. Alicia showed her true self behind the facade of "guaranteed work." If you look at older Yelp reviews, other patrons have described her (verbatim) as unprofessional and unpleasant (history repeating itself). See Stephen M's observations from years past. If the color had lasted more than 2 color safe shampoos, her clients wouldn't have to be inconvenienced to return in the first place. She frames this as though doing you a "favor." As someone who is well versed in high end salons across coasts, I have more respect for myself than to return to Chignon. Maybe Alicia tells herself she is setting boundaries with patrons. The fact is, Alicia falls far short of industry service standards and rests on her semi-retired laurels. Meanwhile, she keeps telling herself she's gone "above and beyond." read more

The person who answered the phone said she was fully booked until the new year, so I asked if I can get a call back in the case there are other openings available with another stylist she could possible recommend me to (I was willing to pay what ever the cost, and I was also willing to go with any stylist then). I called a second time this week because I really am desperate for a change given I have parties this month to attend. I also understand it is a busy month usually when I do try to come in for a last minute service. I called a second time just to double check and I was told there are no openings available with anyone and the person over the phone seemed like she really did not want to just look at availability, I know this for a fact because she was speaking in a more annoyed tone with me the second time. I was told if there were an opening, I would have gotten a call about available openings, that or to look elsewhere and to stop asking because there are no openings. I don't recommend even calling this place. I feel unwelcome and I did not even get a chance to set foot for a service. The phone call was enough for me to take my money elsewhere. read more

It was my first time at this salon and i had the best experience. I highly recommend the salon & Ashley , her Customer service was the best ive had ! I finally found my hairdresser. I explained to her what i wanted and she heard me because i left the salon feeling like a queen! Its also in a great area , as soon as i got there i got offered something to drink i thought that was a nice gesture from the salon. Stopped in as a walk-in hoping to land an appointment. Lee was able to take me right away and I couldn't have been happier. Please believe me when I say this- I am 42 and I am nearly certain I have never finished a haircut without immediately thinking about all the corrections I would have to make when I got home. Lee saw me. He took note of what I wanted and explained how he was going to make that happen with my specific head shape and angles. Then he gave me the best haircut I have ever had in my life. Travis Baum has been doing my hair for almost a year now, I've been very happy with the results. He created three color highlights for me that get non-stop compliments. Inspired by the colors on a peacock, my hair is blue, purple and peacock green. He layered the colors in a way that each color peeks through, it's amazing. Also, the hair color they use is the most long lasting blue that I have ever come across. I have been around hair dye for about 15 years now, and I've tried so many brands, but they all faded quickly and they always would stain my towels, clothes and pillow cases. But the blue here doesn't fade much at all, even after 6 months, and it ever bleeds onto other fabrics! The green and the purple fade slowly, they also do not stain my things. They both fade into very attractive shades of pastel green and purple magenta. I cannot say enough good things about him and the salon! read more

I had been searching for a hair salon for a couple weeks now, always afraid to commit. I hate getting my hair cut, but when the ends of my hair start clumping because they're so dry and dead, it becomes a necessary evil. I bit the bullet and called Chignon. I was able to schedule a same-day appointment with Nicole. I asked for a long layered cut and decided that my shortest layers would be at my collarbones. I asked Nicole to do whatever she thought would look best, but to only cut 1 - 2 inches off the bottom of my hair max. I wanted to keep some length. She did exactly that! I was surprised at the end result - my longest layer was still long and the layers were subtle but very flattering. Nicole took her time and is a great conversationalist. She made me feel very comfortable in her chair! I am so happy I decided to book with Nicole at Chignon, and will definitely be back again. I am even considering getting some color done with her at some point in the future.... if only I could decide on what color! I'd also like to note that my visit included a beverage (I went with green tea), shampoo and condition, and a blow out. The total cost for me was $60 + $15 tip. Note on parking: there is a garage up N.Raymond across the street from the park that has 90 minutes free parking. I actually parked way up N. Every time I went I was not exactly satisfied but I thought - I'm new to them so it will take a while for them to know what I like/want. But last week I had the worst color (drab and dull beige) and a haircut there that looked like 'two cocker spaniel dog ears', simply awful, with no real thought or creativity put into it. It was very very expensive too. So, fortunately for me, I found another salon today which fixed the awful hair cut and gave me a perfect, well executed, and stylish haircut. Comfy couch to sit on while you wait... my original stylist had car problems and wasn't going to be there on time/work with me. They had set me up with another stylist who was a delight to talk with while getting my hair cut. Went in for a simple 3-4 inches off to get off the dead ends & new layers. The employees at Chignon were very respectful and kind. Last time I walked by, it looked like they were under construction for a re-model? Not sure what's going on. Remodel has been complete! (I walked by last night). Not that the salon wasn't nice before, but it looks so much more professional/more high end/up-to-date with today's interior. There waiting area switched to the opposite side (left side) and on the right there is the front desk with a large TV screen. In the center is a split double-sided row of stations. First visit but not my last! When I first entered the salon, I was immediately greeted with a huge smile and a warm welcome by Ashley Nguyen. After brief formalities of introducing her self and offering a beverage, she took me to her station. I told how I usually style my hair and what I would like done. She took a moment to run her fingers thru my hair and gave a brief description my hair type (which I was totally oblivious to) and what she needed to do to keep my hair naturally styled with minimal effort. I immediately felt confident and excited!During the cut she made me feel welcome and made me feel like we've known each other for years.
