Do not go to Lava! I went there last night with a group of friends and family. The service seemed fine and the music was okay even though it was a throwback to 2008. My issue with lava is that they're not trustworthy with your cash or credit/debit cards. Our bill was $106 roughly split between My sister, her boyfriend, and me. With my sister and her boyfriend being servers they only had cash meanwhile I had my card. So I told the server something along the lines of "here is $66 In cash put the rest on my card." I know random number but that is what they gave me. The server takes my card and the cash and comes back a few minutes later asking me to sign. I didn't notice instantly but the amount ran on the card was roughly $86. Which didn't line up with the fact that we had given the server $66 on cash. I asked another server to confirm the amount charged to my card. I was instantly upset with the fact that they thought I wouldn't notice the $40 disparity. I then walked up to the bar area and asked the guy "why he was trying to pull a fast one on me." This set him off and the bouncers were forced to get between us. He was yelling things along the lines of "F*** You", "You're a piece of S***", "You only gave me $20 in cash (Which we had at least 5 people at the table confirm that we gave him $60 +), "You must really need money in order to accuse me of stealing your money." Meanwhile all the bouncers/staff members were all accusing me of being out of line even though he was clearly in the wrong. The manager needed up voiding the charge and I ended up paying the correct amount of $40, I ended up tipping $10 (On top of the 18% gratuity on our bill for a large party) out of spite. By this point I had already decided to never go back to this place again. Today after speaking with another friend that was out with us it appears they double charged us for several things such as beer and hookahs. (We should have noticed this but after the fiasco we were just trying to get out of there) Basically they tried to take advantage of us as much as possible. I noticed the fact that he tried to pocket $40 but they still got us with the doubling charging. Moral of the story don't go and if you do make sure you keep track of everything they charge you for and that they give you proper/accurate change. read more

The hookahs were overpriced, and you can't mix your own flavors, you have to smoke their pre-mixes were not satisfactory. The only upside is that I was comfortable why I waited for my check and then headed to the Egyptian to get what I wanted. read more

It's a great place to unwind and smoke out. There are a lot of smooth yummy flavors. The tea is good, beer is a little expensive but that isn't the point of Lava. Atmosphere is laid back. Decor is on point. read more

Every time I go here the staff is welcoming and exceptionally generous on the bill sometimes only charging me partial. I really enjoy the vibe and atmosphere that tied this place together especially later in the day. The worst thing I'd have to say about them is the price of a bottle that clearly isn't worth $200 but I'd also be lying if I didn't say that wasn't every bar! read more

My friends and I came here for a girls' night a few days ago. It was all of our first times with hookah, and our server, Brittney, explained everything to us without judgement. She continued to be friendly and helpful all night! The reason for the four stars is the food was a little slow and portions were small, especially since we were all sharing appetizers. The Egyptian was full so, why not Lava? I'll tell you why not. From the time we stepped on the sidewalk at Lava, we were greeted by "bouncers" who wouldn't let us in even though there was OBVIOUSLY plenty available seating. Finally, after getting seated we waited nearly another 10 minutes before our server, Peter, ever approached us. Now that I think about it, I don't think he ever said 2 words to us. He just looked blankly like, "what do you want?" . My friend's banana smoothie tasted like something my 9 month old niece just spit up. We were there well over an hour, not once were we checked on, not once was our coal changed. Peter walked by us multiple times without ever making eye contact. This place is WAY too overpriced for the terrible service and mediocre product. I would rather go over to paradise café next time and hang out with the rowdy 18 year old crowd, than ever step foot into Lava again. I've worked in hospitality all my life and never felt the need to go as far as writing a negative review. This place has serious potential, it just needs new employees, probably new management and a swift kick in the butt. read more

I'll preface this review by saying that I don't typically go to hookah lounges... but this place is not worth anyone's time or money. I don't care to smoke so I ordered a cocktail, which was basically an overpriced glass of syrupy liquor. The rest of my table ordered hookah, and it took a long time for it to arrive. It didn't have any hot coals. After we flagged someone down to provide us with some (they only gave us one), the hookah itself was disappointing at best. There was barely any flavor to the smoke, and it smelled and tasted like old water. We thought it was just a bad flavor choice, so we asked an employee for their recommendation, and if we could switch out the flavors. We got a new flavor and it still tasted like old water! Plus it seemed like they let whoever is closest to the aux cord play their own music... which was poorly chosen and abruptly skipped every song. Don't waste your time here. read more

I love this place and go as often as I can. Nicely decorated, prices aren't outrageous, great atmosphere, not to mention tasty burgers, fries, and flavored tobacco. The ONLY thing I would love to see this place get is a bar! read more

I was disappointed by almost everything about my visit to this hookah bar. My friends and I were seated next to the DJ on a Saturday night next to a bunch of other crowded together tables. First off, what hookah bar has a DJ? Secondly, if you're going to have a DJ make sure he doesn't go from club hits to something completely random and slow. Our waitress was okay. She didn't really know much about mixing flavors, so as the hookah snob of the group I had to come up with what to smoke. When the hookah came out they had cheap plastic hoses and mouth pieces. That they charged extra for... What?! Just include it in your hookah prices. The hookah tasted like pure mixed berry, which I hate. We spent about an hour there and I couldn't wait to leave. Normally I'm at a hookah bar for a few hours, if not all day. So for me an hour is not good. Next time I'll just go to the Egyptian where they know what they're doing. read more

I was looking at the kitchen, some of the workers who carry food inside wear glove in one side and equipments are dirty inside. When I was looking at the kitchen the manager told me not to look here and asked me to move out from the kitchen because he knew it's not clean and dirty. You might want to go there drink and get hookah but not eat there because it's totally not clean. read more

I've never been to a hookah bar that didn't think it was okay to give A1 customer service. The music was horrible. I asked for it to be changed because it just wasn't fitting of the crowd and the owner didn't budge. Hookah hoses are very cheap and the drinks are watered down. This was probably the worst service ever. I don't know if the server was just having a bad day, but was not as welcoming as one would hope. We were invited to sit anywhere, which was fine. We chose a table in the less-crowded area. Several minutes later, the server came by and slapped menus down on the table (which was covered in hookah soot). Another short wait and we ordered appetizers. The apps arrived, they were pretty good. The server visited five other tables passing by my empty water. We had to call her over to order our entrée and another water. About 10 minutes passed and she mentioned that she just put in our order because the kitchen was backed up. IDGAF. Somewhere in the midst of this, the ball game became blaring into our earshot. Not that I care it was on, just seemed to aggravate us a bit more with the level of volume and the place was not packed. The food is phenomenal. Love their house merlot. The seating is so comfortable! Our service was very expedited and they brought out dessert to celebrate my friend's birthday. Love their music--and they had ncaa games on their new tv's! The waiter took a picture of our group and said he would email the picture to us. Fantastic atmosphere. I didn't want to leave! I've tried Lava twice. Once shortly after they opened and again many months later with the same results. The atmosphere is quite nice but the service just doesn't hold up. Long waits for orders and nobody tending the hookah left the shisha to burn and myself put off. read more
