A spa day to celebrate my birthday at the Salamander Spa in DC and I loved every minute of it!…read more I was greeted by the receptionist and taken to the relaxation room as I waited to be taken to the spa area. I was given a brief tour of the facility and since I arrived 45 min before my service I was able to enjoy the infinity pool, steam room and sauna. The ice cold washcloths by the sauna were heavenly. Taquita did both my signature massage and my pure radiance facial. She was amazing! She took the time to ask me my pressure preferences and well, the rest is history. After my treatments, I enjoyed reading my book in the relaxation room while hydrating with the water that was provided. The snacks were also a nice touch. Will I be back? Yes, I think this might become a birthday tradition.

I suspect they are either understaffed or...something...because my friend had to put in several phone calls when the online system was giving us the blues. Once we got over that hurdle, things were pretty smooth sailing. I received several confirmations in advance and when I arrived the day of there were no issues or complications. For a long while, we had the lounge relaxation area to ourselves. The snacks were water, tea, pretzel bites, wasabi peas, and some kind of unsalted nut mix. Not the best spread but I did have my share of pretzel bites. Our massage therapists arrived promptly and on the other side of our services (90 minute massage for her and 60 minute body exfoliation followed by a 60 minute massage for me) we were both incredibly relaxed. We didn't use the steam room, pool, or sauna but I'll be sure to check those out next time. The services are pricey but the facilities are nice and I wouldn't hesitate to return. Special shoutout to my massage therapist. Duane was my tech and...he did that! Very professional from beginning to end, and very good at what he does. When I was checking out, somehow I was nearly charged for both my services and my friends. I was in such a relaxed state that I didn't catch it but the staff fortunately did. All things considered, a lovely experience.

They were so friendly and celebrated my birthday upon walk in Facility- clean and the decor of choice created an immediate relaxing vibes. My massage therapist was Sogbe (hope I spelled it correctly) and boy was she EXCELLENT! She understood my medical needs and took her time to provide great services. I cannot wait to visit again!!!! I booked the appointment online and put down the necessary deposit. They were running a special for the month of January- 10% off during weekdays and it included aromatherapy. The 10% off did not automatically apply and I'm pretty sure I didn't get the discount. Parking- street parking if available. We lucked up and got a spot right in front of the spa. No paying a meter was required. My massage therapist was Mike and my husband's massage therapist was Kimberly. The couple's room was tight so I could feel, see and hear every time my husband's therapist talked to him or when she moved. My husband felt that Kimberly just couldn't get the pressure right even though she asked. He also felt like she took a break after every touch so there was awkwardly long waiting periods. He said her touch was often too soft even though he told her the pressure wasn't enough. She was pleasant; notwithstanding, she just wasn't the right therapist for him. Mike also asked me once about the pressure and at the time, it was okay. As the massage went on, it became uncomfortable. In all fairness, I should've spoken up. The elbow and forearm down the back and around the shoulders was the most painful. We got the massages on Monday morning and I'm still in pain on Wednesday. This is the first time I've asked for a male massage therapist and boy could I tell the difference. The pressure alone was intense. The best part was the scalp rub and the lavender scent (although there was something mid-massage that smelled like mildew). When asked what areas of focus before starting, I mentioned that I wanted my mid-back and arms focused on because I have carpal tunnel. Those areas weren't paid any special attention--they were simply apart of the regularly scheduled program - upper left, then upper right, then lower left, the lower right, then flip and repeat and end with scalp. This was the process for both my husband and I though he was flipped front a lot sooner than I was. Overall, I wouldn't mind returning if I'm in the area and trying another therapist.

Well needless to say, we will be on the hunt for a better spot- FOR SURE. Here's what our feedback was to the establishment since they asked, and I decided to share here in case it's helpful to anyone thinking about going here: "The overall experience was disappointing and did not meet the standards expected of a professional wellness or spa environment. The walk between buildings felt awkward and disjointed, and the areas where services were provided were visibly unclean. This immediately detracted from the sense of calm and comfort that clients typically seek when booking spa services. The sauna instructions were overly complicated and nonintuitive. Rather than supporting a seamless, stress-free experience, the setup required unnecessary effort and attention at a time when guests should be able to arrive, decompress, and enjoy the service. One of the facials was particularly concerning. The provider fell out of her chair during the session, left the room for approximately 15 minutes within the allotted service time, and complained openly about missing supplies that had not been ordered. Her presentation and behavior appeared impaired or otherwise not fully attentive, which was alarming in a setting where professionalism, focus, and client safety are expected. There were also sanitation concerns. Gloves were not worn during the sessions- in particular extractions & close facial work, which raised hygiene and safety questions. Given the nature of skincare treatments and direct contact with facial areas, adherence to clear sanitation protocols is critical. Both facials were performed below expected standards. Product application felt careless rather than intentional for both clients. Creams were applied in a manner that resulted in product entering the nostril area for both clients. In one instance, the technician had to awkwardly clean the inside of a nostril during the service, which was unexpected and uncomfortable (and something never experienced prior). In the other facial, cream entered the nostril and remained there throughout the session, creating concern about inhalation; the client ultimately had to clean it out herself after the session. This experience was distracting and far from relaxing. Additionally, massage and sculpting techniques reflected a noticeable lack of refinement and training, particularly for clients accustomed to higher-quality services. Overall, the experience lacked attentiveness, professionalism, cleanliness, and the level of care expected in a premium setting."

11/18/2025 This place doesn't even deserve 1 star…read more I DO NOT recommend Barefoot Wellness . My recent experience was disappointing, and I would advise against purchasing gift certificates for this establishment. Despite scheduling a 60-minute massage a week in advance, communication was poor--I had to follow up via email as calls were not answered. On the day of my appointment, I was instructed by text to wait in my car until called. After waiting past my scheduled time, I entered the building and was met with an unfriendly reception. I was told my massage time would be reduced by 10 minutes due to being "late," despite following their instructions. I said, look at your camera you can see I have been in my car more than 20 minutes early for my appointment. I was then informed by a staff member they only saw a truck which I stated I was in VW bug on the other side of the truck! The time was rushed; I didn't even have my clothes all off before the masseuse barged back into the room. My requests for specific areas to be addressed were ignored several times. The staff were not welcoming, and the environment was not relaxing either. This wasn't the experience my friend hoped for when she gave me a certificate to mark my eight years cancer-free. Unfortunately, I made sure to contact my friend who gave me the gift certificate and tell her about bad experience. I will not return and do not recommend Barefoot Wellness in Prince Frederick, MD. If you're considering Annapolis, I recommend visiting one of the Wellness Houses there. You'll be treated well and leave feeling renewed.

The waiting room is comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is intimate. They offer a variety of services, to include yoga, cleansing, and more. I've only booked the 60 minute massage. The service is performed in a bedroom type setting (as the venue itself is a house converted to a spa). My massages have been wonderful and compare to massages I have had at big name competitors. In addition to the wonderful service, I love this spot because of the prices. A 60 minute massage is $79! I always give a little extra on the tip because I feel the service is worth it! I look forward to booking many future appointments here.
