The setting is definitely one of the highlights, with a nice indoor and outdoor atmosphere. The food was good overall. We enjoyed the lamb chops and Wagyu, and the cocktails were also well done. The service was friendly and attentive, although the overall experience wasn't quite as exceptional as I had expected based on some of the reviews. That said, the new location has a lot of potential, and with the renovations still underway, I think it will only get better. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

While most of the South Beach restaurants are loud and crowded, this one is quiet and classy! The dining room has an old world charm and art deco vibe. The food was exquisite ! We loved their rib eye steak and short ribs. They were prepared just right and the portion size was great! To me, the short ribs can feed two people (as long as you are not big eaters). Service was marvelous as well. Our server Laura was graceful and attentive. The manager also came out to greet us and shared some history of the place with us. Overall a wonderful dining experience at a price point that I consider very reasonable for the quality and ambiance they offered!

There…read moreare a lot of good choices in the Miami Beach area but she gave me some specific things she wanted. Walkable to the hotel, good food options and $100 per person maximum. After looking at the reviews I presented Mareva 1939 as my top choice. I contacted them and made a reservation for 10 people, and after the first reservation time I had to adjust with Mareva for people arriving in late because of flights. No problem for Mareva and they didn't need a deposit for the restaurant. It is in the National Hotel, next to where we are staying box 1 check. The place was beautifully decorated and staff all attentive throughout the night. That was my criteria not my boss' since the lack of good service can destroy a great meal. The food choices all were excellent but centered on tapas and Spanish cuisine which checked the second box. Served family style we all chose a number of different tapas and shared. Then large patella dishes, they were plentiful and all delicious. Lastly the price, which may seem high for those outside the area but not for those who know Miami Beach. The bill for the 10 of us that included several drinks person and enough food and desserts to leave us full came to $1,002 including tip and taxes. All boxes checked and my boss and team happy, Mareva 1939 was a huge success.

Very helpful and he explained all the dishes and was a good advocate for the restaurant. We had two gluten free diners in our party, one with celiac, and our sever and Chef handled it well and adopted as best they could. We tried a lot of different dishes. The salatim trio, the persian cucumber, and steak shawarma hummus & pita (one of everyone's favorites) were all great. The local fish ceviche was very good as was the feta & pistachio. For main meals we tried the branzino (2). Also the braised beef short rib was excellent (hearty and moist) and the double cut lamb chop was cooked perfectly. It was a fun evening for sure - the tarp above us keep spilling water near the table (not on anyone) and we had fun with it.

The dip postcard guide was tricky to match up, and definitely order extra bread up front--our second basket took nearly 30 minutes. My husband found the chicken skewers mediocre, but the ground lamb skewers were delicious. Heads-up: chew carefully, as our friend bit into a bone fragment (our server noted they grind meat in-house). The Service: Staff seem stretched thin covering both indoor and outdoor sections. Our first server disappeared before taking drink orders, forcing us to flag down another waiter. Great flavors overall, but pacing delays keep it from a perfect score

We later realized the restaurant was actually part of a hotel, which we had no idea about when we stopped. The setting was definitely the star for us. The outdoor area is beautiful and inviting, and we honestly found ourselves more mesmerized by the surroundings than the food. But the service... absolutely everything! Emilio was wonderful! He was welcoming, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, honest about the menu. We really appreciated that he didn't just try to sell us on everything. He listened to what we liked and guided us toward what he thought we would actually enjoy. The food itself was okay. Nothing we tried particularly blew us away, but the menu is pretty varied, and there were definitely other dishes that caught our attention. Would I come back? I actually wouldn't mind! Between the beautiful setting, the atmosphere, and Emilio's excellent service, I'd happily return and explore more of the menu. Sometimes the overall experience is what brings you back, and this place definitely has that going for it.

Very efficient and personable, great person, great service now to the food: It was absolutely the most delicious food in South Beach. We ordered: Avoglomeno, an amazing and delicious chicken lemon soup (a Greek specialty) my boyfriend. Unfamiliar with Greek food loved it so much, wanted to go back the next day to get it again! And the main event was the Branzino fish which was also delicious and flavourful which came with a perfect creamed spinach. So far this restaurant is the best that we have experienced in South Beach Beach Earlier in the day we were walking past the restaurant and a man told us how great it was, he was totally right! For years, I had always passed-up the Poseidon on Washington Av. in South Beach,…read morethinking it was too much of an upscale restaurant for my social bracket. But, when I saw they were advertising a Lamb Gyro for $12 (Tuesdays), I took the leap. Seems it wasn't that far to jump. Although there were table cloths, cloth napkins and silverware, with room for a true dining experience, the fan sitting atop the bar, (blowing-off more air than necessary), and the plastic plants on the walls/ceilings threw-off any pretense I had of the place. When I requested the Lamb Gyro, the server pointed to an entree on the menu for me to approve. I made sure there wasn't another (re: pricier) offer. There was... it was the one he suggested. The gyro itself consisted of a bland (Tzatziki?) sauce that struggled to find my taste buds. Lamb (typically) has a gamey/slightly sweet flavor; these cuts seemed to be found from behind their refrigerator, (not from inside). They certainly weren't cut fresh from a spit, as they were old and nearly tasteless. The included slices of onion and peppers, delegated to the pita bottom, (instead of intermingling) barely helped. The French fries (included in the price) were the most flavorful part of the meal; although, they were an insult, rather than accompaniment to the experience. And, was that Latin (instead of traditional Greek) music coming from the speakers? Along with a 20% "Administrative" fee, I won't be tempted to venture in again.

Their menu items are pretty reasonably priced considering their beachfront location and the fact that it's inside a hotel. Every food item we had for dinner and breakfast were excellent. The servers were very nice. My only complaint is that it takes forever for food to come out after you order them. I ate dinner and breakfast here back to back during my stay at the Hilton Cabana, and both meals took 30-40 minutes to come out. That's way too long, especially when you arrive at the hotel tired and hungry after a long day of traveling to Miami! This one significant flaw unfortunately knocks them from 4.5 stars down to 3 stars.

Everything was cooked well enough but it was nothing spectacular. The pasta had very little taste to it. The mussels were good but we had several dead ones. The mashed potatoes were pretty bland too. 5 STARS - I Really Miss Balans Miami Beach…read more I still really miss Balans Miami Beach. It was one of those rare spots that just got everything right. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff was friendly, and it was truly one of the best brunch places in the area. Whether you wanted a laid-back morning, a casual lunch, or a cozy evening meal, Balans always delivered. The food was consistently great, the drinks were fun, and it had that perfect Miami Beach vibe without trying too hard. It was the kind of neighborhood spot you could count on time after time. It's such a shame it's no longer open -- places like Balans are hard to replace. Wish it was still around.

Food is above average and so is service, but the people-watching is incredible. The star of this show is really the flow of people walking past on Lincoln Road. Sit outside if you can. If you picture an obese middle aged guy sun-burned to bright red and inexplicably wearing only a very small Speedo, followed by a group of 4 very buffed female body builders, you get the mental image: sort of an I-just-came-from-the-beach-by-way-of-another-planet vibe. This review is for a visit a couple of months ago, pre-CV19. Balan's (aside from meaning "demon" in some languages) is named for the founder Prady Balan. Balan had already founded 7 successful London restaurants when he branched out to Miami Beach. This place still runs like Big Ben: solid, reliable and a great institution. He passed away in 2016 and now his son runs this one (which is good) and a not-so-good Brickell branch. Brickell is reviewed separately. It's always tough to decide on brunch or other meals here. Almost everything is good, but cholesterol and calorie counts are fairly high. In fact this trip the waiter had to loiter while my other half talked me into Eggs Florentine versus Eggs Benedict (spinach is ever-so-slightly healthier than Canadian Bacon LOL). We rode our bikes over so the Hollandaise Sauce fat was cancelled out, in my twisted calculus. Hey millions of years of evolution have programmed us all to seek sugar and fat! Service here can be slightly brusk, but not usually. It is located on the central axis of high tourist season, so they do have to be a little direct with the more obnoxious customers. That said, they're almost always polite and efficient, particularly if they've seen you lots before and know you're local. The location is perfect. It almost halfway across between Washington and Alton Read in the pedestrian mall portion of Lincoln Road. Outside and inside it looks like a faded palazzo. It's also a good location if you're planning anything before or after at either the Colony Theater or at the New World Symphony. It's also a good central spot to meet up with friends. Food here is pretty well a menu of brunch, lunch and dinner standards. It's fine for what it is, basically glamorized and slightly pricey diner food. The hipness of the location somewhat makes up for the food.
