We had the best dining experience at The Marvelous Mareva! We love it so much that we came twice during our short stay in Miami Beach. While most of the South Beach restaurants are loud and crowded, this one is quiet and classy! The dining room has an old world charm and art deco vibe. The food was exquisite ! We loved their rib eye steak and short ribs. They were prepared just right and the portion size was great! To me, the short ribs can feed two people (as long as you are not big eaters). Service was marvelous as well. Our server Laura was graceful and attentive. The manager also came out to greet us and shared some history of the place with us. While on a business trip to Miami my boss put me in charge of a location for a team dinner. There are a lot of good choices in the Miami Beach area but she gave me some specific things she wanted. Walkable to the hotel, good food options and $100 per person maximum. After looking at the reviews I presented Mareva 1939 as my top choice. I contacted them and made a reservation for 10 people, and after the first reservation time I had to adjust with Mareva for people arriving in late because of flights. No problem for Mareva and they didn't need a deposit for the restaurant. It is in the National Hotel, next to where we are staying box 1 check. The place was beautifully decorated and staff all attentive throughout the night. That was my criteria not my boss' since the lack of good service can destroy a great meal. The food choices all were excellent but centered on tapas and Spanish cuisine which checked the second box. Served family style we all chose a number of different tapas and shared. Then large patella dishes, they were plentiful and all delicious. Lastly the price, which may seem high for those outside the area but not for those who know Miami Beach. The bill for the 10 of us that included several drinks person and enough food and desserts to leave us full came to $1,002 including tip and taxes. I stayed at The National for a few days and enjoyed dining here for breakfast one of those mornings and let me tell you, it was pitch perfect. From the amazing patio view of the pool, to the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, to the delicious huevos rancheros I ordered, it was all excellent. I don't know if I've ever had huevos rancheros that photogenic. It was so bright and vibrant and tasty to boot! Whenever I travel I try to mix up my dining so I can get a wide variety of meals in but I seriously considered breaking my rule and hitting here twice. We came here with a party of 18 for a bachelorette dinner and had such a great experience. I coordinated ahead of time with one of the food and beverage directors to arrange a prix fixe menu for our group, which made things very easy when we arrived. The restaurant is located inside a hotel and overlooks their pool area, which made for a really beautiful setting for dinner. The cuisine is Spanish tapas style and the menu had a huge varietyribeye steak, paellas, cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta, ahi tuna, and so much more. Fantastic experience from start to finish. We came in with a party of 12, and everything, from service to pacing, was handled flawlessly. The staff was incredible at guiding us on what to order and how much, which made the whole evening effortless and fun. Stayed at the National Hotel for my friend's 50th birthday party celebration. Mareva 1939 is the eatery that resides in the Hotel. We had a party of 14 and ate a six course Prix Fixe family style meal. First of all, the seating is open air, covered, and looks out on one of the hotels two pools. A very nice atmosphere when the weather is cooperative, which it was. The food was fantastic, and plentiful. Deliciously crafted and eclectic small plate dishes with a variety of flavors and styles. I'm not a big seafood eater but the table raved about those dishes. The service was excellent. We were attended to by several servers and the manager checked in frequently to ensure everyone was enjoying themselves. A great experience overall. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I were ordering off the menu so I could focus on the foods that I most enjoy. read more

Set inside of the National Hotel, I found this restaurant on a prior trip to SoBe and wanted to try it again. We love tapas and tried the endive salad and ham fritters. Everything was well prepared and tasty. For our main meal we tried the lobster and seafood arroces (rice). It was a little soupier than a traditional paella. A large lobster tail was cut into four pieces and mixed in with the clams, mussels, and scallops. It was a tasty dish and reasonably priced. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Apparently he took a liking to us and brought us desert that was on the house. Only negative was that there was a pool party going on in one of the neighboring hotels and we had to listen to bumping bass through the whole meal. read more

Well visiting South Beach I decided I wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner. On this particular occasion, I decided to look up which restaurants were most romantic. Mareva appeared to be at the top of the list and had excellent reviews. And it was within walking distance of where we were staying. What could be better than that? Well, let me tell you. Excellent food, outstanding service, and a romantic outdoor setting by the pool, which was lit up and beautiful. This restaurant had it all. It is unusual to hit the trifecta, but great service great setting great food and at the bonus of romantic atmosphere. This could be the perfect date night restaurant. We started out with cocktails, which were wonderful and then went onto our appetizer of Jamon Iberico Fermin. Honestly, not being a charcuterie connoisseur. I probably lack the ability to fully appreciate this. They tasted fine, but just somehow didn't overwhelm me and considering the price I would not order it again. We don't want onto the seafood rice for two. This was absolutely outstanding and the portion was huge. We could not finish it. Huge is inconsequential when the food lacks flavor, but this was so scrumptious. We tried to eat as much as we could. We took quite a bit home and we're far too full for dessert. However, it being my wife's birthday they brought dessert anyway. Talk about extremely extravagant presentation and yet incredibly tasty. This was a five star meal that rivaled some of the Michelin star restaurants I've eaten at. I loved it and will certainly be returning. read more

Upon arrival we were greeted by the host staff inside an amazing space. Artwork is truly incredible. We started with their take on an old fashioned and a non alcoholic pina colada. The old fashioned was unbelievable! A bulleit infused banana and coffee- which was so delicious and smooth. We started with our first tapas, mussels and the bone marrow. The mussels were so flavorful, the broth was delicious. I absolutely love bone marrow and order wherever I go and it is offered- so have had in numerous restaurants. The bone marrow portion was extremely generous, with the bone marrow and the oxtail topping. I would have loved something to cut the rich and heavy beef loveliness like a little light rocket salad with lemon and onion jam to add bright and a little sweet. Still good. Next course- endive salad- really delicious. Last course was the spicy honey grilled duck breast- wonderful! The duck was moist and tender. The apple and accompaniment was a perfect complement. The reviews on this restaurant must have been purchased because I didn't think it was very good at all. Overpriced too. We spent $120 total for lobster paella, grilled artichoke hearts and jam on coquettas. Unfortunately, all the restaurants in south beach are overpriced, underwhelming and somehow highly reviewed on yelp. Lobster paella (2/5 rating) - it was way too wet for my liking. The rice was practically swimming in the soup. The seafood was fresh however. Overall, the flavor was too salty. Grilled artichoke hearts (3/5): this was fine but nothing stood out. Jamon coquetta (3/5): this was fine but nothing stood out. There definitely wasn't enough meat - mostly cheese. I wouldn't come back. The restaurant vibes however were great - view was beautiful. Came here for one last dinner in Miami. We just found it on the same day on Yelp. Luckily they weren't busy so no wait. We initially got seated at the very end with comfy seats then suddenly we noticed cockroaches on the wall. We immediately asked to be seated elsewhere. We ate at Boqueria in Boston, and the Paella was incredible, so we wanted to try another Spanish tapas place while in Miami. Both Paellas we ordered here were good, but I had higher expectations. I just figured I'd get better Paella in Miami than in Boston. This restaurant is in the National hotel, which looked like a really nice place to stay, with a pool that was 75-80 meters long with great plams shading, and another pool area behind it. What a gem! We arrived on a chilly Miami night and after walking through the beautiful art deco lobby, we were seated on the charming patio overlooking the gorgeous pool with lights changing colors. We were nice and toasty beneath the heaters. Our waitress, Amy, was friendly and attentive. I started with a yummy Endless Passion cocktail. My friends had the Hibiscus Beauty and She Said Yes. I came to this establishment last month for the Estrella Damm Culinary Journey. It was a 6 course meal and came with Estrella beer. The restaurant was beautiful and the staff were all accommodating. We were seated outdoor which had ventilation for the hotter summer months. The six courses consisted of Spanish cheese platter, kale salad with sherry vinaigrette, anchovies, pear, tomatoes, steamed mussels in white wine, wild mushroom paella and Manchego cheese flan. Just Great. Some words about COVID-19 measures. The restaurant includes indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating overlooks a lovely pool and is nicely ventilated. Menus are disposable, but no contactless menus or payment available. All waiters wear masks. The restaurant is located at the National Hotel, which has been recently remodeled. Valet parking is available at $25 when we visited. The automated system to retrieve cars was not working at the time, but our car was returned swiftly by the valet associate. The chef at Marea 1939 was previously with now defunct Alma. Alma was quite popular among the Spanish expat community in Florida, with contemporary preparations of Spanish dishes. Marea follows the same mindset. We ordered the cheese plate, which was very generous and included quince, marcona almonds, toast, slices of manchego, and a slice of cabrales, a delicious blue cheese from Northern Spain. We also ordered the heirloom tomatos, the beet tartar, and the mussels. All dishes were just delicious, and we were very happy that portions were not minuscule. We finished with the brioche torrija (a Spanish type of French toast) with coconut ice cream and guava espuma. The guava was very sharp, and married beautifully with the rich torrija and unctuous coconut ice cream. I would highly recommend Marea 1939 to anyone looking for a memorable meal at South Beach. Great tropical ambiance with epic views of the National Hotel pool, reasonable prices, excellent service, and delicious food and wines. We loved it! read more

We sat outside, which was pool side. It was quiet and had good ambiance. The back exit would lead you right onto the walkway by the beach, which was a nice stroll after dinner. Service was attentive and personable. Food was overall pretty good, although I would say menu selections were limited as far as tapas go. Prices were par for the course on South Beach. AMAZING!!! My girlfriend and I visited here during a brief trip to Miami to celebrate our anniversary and were beyond pleased with our dinner at Mareva. Firstly, the ambiance is gorgeous, not too loud, and it is nice but casual enough for you not to worry much about what to wear. We started off with the Pear with Me and Endless Passion cocktails, which were absolutely delicious. The pear with me in particular was incredible, and a drink we had never tasted before! We ended up ordering another round of the same because of just how good they were. For our main dish, we got the Black Paella, which was AMAZING! As someone who had visited Spain before, I was happily surprised at how yummy it was and my girlfriend was similarly floored by it (she hasn't stopped talking about our wonderful meal!) At $21 per person, it was also well priced (especially given Miami prices). We were full from sharing the paella and barely had room for dessert. However, our wonderful waitress (who had been wishing us a happy anniversary throughout our meal) encouraged to get the Brioche Torrija, and when it arrived we were happily surprised by the message written on the plate. So special! The torrija was delicious and the combination of guava and lemon was incredible (they were out of the coconut gelato, which was fine with me as I'm not a big fan of coconut). Overall, our experience was excellent. The service was so wonderful, with each server being so kind and giving us several well wishes on our anniversary. So technically I didn't eat AT Mareva 1939, but as a guest at the National Hotel, I had their room service dinner AND breakfast. Let's talk about dinner. The BRANZINO!! Oh.My.Goodness!! That was so freakin good!!! I had always seen it on other menus but I just stayed in my comfort zone and got Salmon! LoL I just hope when I get it again, it's made with so much flavor as this meal was. It has no bones and there was this pepper on top and I don't even like spicy let alone peppers but I just kept eating it with the fish and it was like it was better and better with every bite. I also had a glass of sparkling rose and it complemented the meal wonderfully! Definitely a meal I could have again. It totaled $55.88. I also had oatmeal an a side of bacon for breakfast.
