Located on the biz side of Ocean Drive, across from the beach, Avalon is a rarely discussed foodie's dream. I have been a patron since 1998. Never disappointed. (The hotel is also a charming, reliably perfect stay on SoBe. Smaller rooms, clean, nicely decorated, and location, location, location. Not cheap, but not obscenely overpriced.) The restaurant is predictable. Seafood is so fresh, one might think the fish walked into the kitchen voluntarily. Preparations are both simple and exotic, depending on personal choice. Cooking is precise; plating is art. Tastes are deliciously above par. Service is cordial and professional. Priced comparative to market. This is one of SoBe's finest, with guests pulled from both local residents and visiting tourists looking for fine dining on the beach. If you're visiting Miami, Avalon perennially has highest recommendations. read more

We visited a fish called Avalon for their happy hour (4-9:30) and tried most of the items on the happy hour menu. We really enjoyed each dish and received great service. The restaurant is beautiful and sitting outside on Ocean Drive is a great opportunity for people watching. I would return for happy hour and would love to visit again for dinner! read more

We tried the happy hour menu and it was delicious Shrimp tacos that were fresh and tasty. French fries that were more like steak fries. A bit salty but still very good. The burrata with crostini was maybe the best item. Service was a 5. Excellent. Attentive and friendly. The outdoor seating in the art deco district was a plus to people watch. read more

My honey and I had our last meal in Miami here on our honeymoon trip in January. Winter is the low time as the beach is quite cold and the tourists limited, which made for a lovely, quiet date night at the rocket bar at a fish called Avalon. We sat for about 2-3 hours enjoying cocktails, oysters, mussels and paella, and chatting with the bartenders about everything over the sun. The food was fantastic and the portion sizes humongous. We were so full after our appetizers but wanted to stay and chat so ended up making our way completely through every dish. We will absolutely be back the next time we want a fancy fine dining experience on the beach! read more

We came here for dinner while visiting Miami Beach for a long weekend, very nice restaurant, if you want to stay in the South Beach vibe, eat outdoors, if you want a nice classy white table cloth dinner, eat inside. Either way you will enjoy the food & service. We had shrimp cocktail for app, my wife had the twin lobster tails and I had the seafood risotto. Everything was delicious, seafood is fresh and cooked perfectly read more

We came here like we always do while staying in Miami , twice. We got the Bronzino on Wednesday and it was fabulous. Marbin was our server. He was right there when we needed him. We always get the bang bang shrimp. It was wonderful. Then we came back the night we are leaving Miami . We got the bang bang shrimp again because we love it. This time my sister got the seafood pasta. She said there was seafood in every bite. And she commented that octopus was cooked appropriately and was not rubbery. and was fresh. I got the macadamia nut incrusted fish. The topping was so good and it was placed in a yummy berry sauce. Marbin was our server again. He is so good at his job, very attentive and friendly. We had the famous key lime pie. It was perfect . We will be back the next time we are in Miami read more

Some of the best service you will get along Ocean Drive. Came to A Fish Called Avalon for my birthday dinner several months back as I wanted to treat myself to a seafood dinner. Had the lobster tail, shrimp scampi, mashed potatoes, spinach and a glass of white wine. All was AMAZING! Lovely outdoor setting and seating as well. The only thing that prevents this from be a five star was that the lit candles were attracting little gnats and some mosquitos but other than that, it was a great birthday dinner. I wish I had rememebered the gentleman who was serving my table but he was awesome and I thank him and the staff for accomodating. Definitely a recommend for dinner by the beach, especially if you are looking for a seafood spot. read more

Great dinner! Spice of Miami menu was perfect. Sat on the terrace which was very nice. Staff was great!

First-class people and truly outstanding hospitality. I brought a group of 26 guests here for dinner, and while we waited outside, the owner's wife graciously prepared a pasta dish just for me and our bus driver. I can honestly say it was one of the most delicious pasta dishes I've had in my entire life. I believe it was angel hair pasta with fresh basil, tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive oil--simple ingredients, perfectly executed. I'm a meat-and-potatoes guy, and I absolutely devoured it. Thank you so much for the warmth, generosity, and incredible food. I will be recommending you to all of my clients going forward without hesitation. read more

We came here for cocktails and dessert. Once the waitress heard we were only here for that, she stomped off to the maitre de and had us moved! Extremely rude! Once at our new table, we had a lovely waiter who was more than happy to serve us. The table they moved us from never had customers the entire time we were there. We did have a reservation and no where does it say whether to indicate if you are there for a meal or just dessert. That being said, the key lime pie was delicious and the live music was awesome! Perhaps that waitress was having a bad night? Certainly should not have been rude to customers. We come down every year, but will think twice about returning. read more

Food was great, especially the sesame tuna. The Greenwing Pinot Grigio was also delicious and Marvin was wonderful!

Took my beautiful wife to This restaurant for Valentine's Day and it was amazing. The hostess were very polite and got me to my table immediately, the manager was helpful and our server Richard was just the best! Food was 10/10, I literally have no complaints or anything to critic about. Sitting on the street was cool cause I overheard several people walking by say "I want to go here" "it's that one restaurant from the movie" and such so that cool. Definitely recommend A Fish Called Avalon and suggest it to anybody who wants great seafood right on Miami Beach. read more

Miami Beach is considered a paradise for those in love with the culinary arts, dining at a Fish Called Avalon Brought out the feeling of classic Art Deco South Florida while delivering delicious starters and appetizers, the Baked Escargot was light and buttery soaking in just the right amount of sauce when it was served, I also decided to try the Octopus as an appetizer as well, tender and chewy with a fresh taste of the ocean, The atmosphere is very lovely here especially during later in the day when the sun sets, I would recommend visiting for anyone read more

Amazing experience! Service, from the maître D to Enzo, was exceptional. Ambience fantastic. Very good light entertainment. But the star was the food, no question. The bang bang shrimp was excellent. Highly recommend. Not traditional, very unique and delicious. The beet salad, yes... perfect. My wife cannot eat gluten, the waiter was knowledgeable and work closely with the chief to protect my wife. The branzino was special. For me, I loved the crab encrusted grouper. Generous crab served on a tasty bean and spinach. Highly recommend! The cream brûlée top was a little too charred, but we had such a great meal we peeled it those pieces an enjoyed. read more

Their orzo paella is one of the best seafood dishes I've ever eaten and I think about it all the time. May have ruined all other paella for me to be honest. The fish was fresh and so delicately cooked and each piece of orzo melted in your mouth along with the that decadent sauce. It was so filling and yet light at the same time. My husband and I had a lovely meal there and everything from their cocktails to dessert was delicious. It's been a little bit so I think their menu has changed but we also loved the dessert - a bananas foster type of dish. So good! Great service and loved the ambiance - was the perfect setting for a romantic date night. read more

So I have to say that this is probably my fave seafood restaurant in the US!! Big statement but have eaten here twice in Miami and the food is absolutely outstanding, great service, nice atmosphere. Right in the heart of the Art deco district and part of the famous Avalon hotel I miss this food. Their octopus was the best I have eaten and have had it in many different countries and still this was the best. My family from the UK all enjoyed their dishes thoroughly when we went on a cruise out of Miami. Great cocktails and good value for money. We took an Uber here so can't comment on parking Go you won't regret it if you like seafood! read more

Great location on ocean drive Perfect for people watching and gentle evening breezes Perfectly steamed and chilled Maine lobster. Well presented and segmented. We don't venture out to South Beach often but going to A Fish Called Avalon was 100% worth it. Everything from the food, service and ambiance was impeccable. We made Friday night reservations through OpenTable but probably would have been OK had we just walked in. The weather was nice and cool so we opted for a table outside. Our server Amy took great care of us. She rattled off the specials like a pro but my bf and I had pretty much decided on what we wanted. Food came out fast. We got the mussels to start - they were garlicky and light, probably the best I've ever had. For entrees we got the crusted grouper and shrimp scampi, both SO good. And we had to finish off with a slice of their famous pecan crusted key lime pie. Splendid but we were so full we struggled to finish it. The drinks were also very good - I started with a glass of rose and later their Miami cocktail and my bf had the Boomshine (both strong and spicy). Service was great. Amy checked up on us often and we appreciated that they kept our water glasses full. There was a live singer/guitarist for that added to the romantic ambiance. And parking was surprisingly easy with a garage about a block away. To finish off, the manager sent us an email today following up on our visit :) Coming here was a treat and a great start to the weekend! read more

This restaurant at Avalon hotel distinguished itself by excellent sea food and service. Let's break this down. Bang Bang shrimp appetizer had lightly pan seared shrimp on the bed of yogurt, spiced with cumin and curry with a small salad of pickled onions and peppers. For dinner I went with a snapper with a side of pesto flavored risotto and my wife had a grouper on a bed of beans and spinach. Fish was very fresh. Wine list is ok, not extensive but offers white and red in different price ranges. Hahn Pinot Noir and Gavi Gavi white were very nice. Entree prices in the $40 - $50 range, it's a seafood place but they have steak and pasta dishes. 4 drinks. 2 entrees, 1 appetizer with all service charges and taxes $234. Service was impeccable- friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. Top notch. Shout out to Yosniel! read more

The service was fine - nothing special. The food was good - but not great. Ambiance was south beach. They came around with shawls since it was a little cool which was a very nice feature. Main issues are they automatically added a 20% gratuity and the menu says there is a $5 off per specialty cocktail or wine from 5-7 on the menu but then when you get the bill, they tell you it is only in this one small area of restaurant. read more

What a great find on South Beach in Miami. Many of the restaurants are tourist traps but A Fish Called Avalon isn't in that category. The staff were great and service was impeccable. If you want the perfect Miami vibes meal, come here. It's located right along the beach, here's a vintage car out front so you can't miss it. Our server and everyone that came up to our table were extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. Just because the hummus is complimentary, doesn't mean you should ignore it. It was light but slightly creamy at the same time. Don't skip it! We got Copps Island oysters which were beautifully presented, sweet, and not briny at all. The orzo paella was huge a packed to the brim with an assortment of seafood. This was probably my favorite dish we had. The grilled octopus is a must in Miami. Everywhere I saw it on the menu, I had to have it. It never fails me. read more

This is a landmark restaurant on Ocean Drive, and I made reservations for dinner...and upon arrival, we decided to dine on their patio. First of all, the place featured live music...and they were awesome! I think it might have been a trio (I couldn't see from where I was seated), playing some mix of jazzy tunes, with a definitive Miami flair (some Cuban/Hispanic influence?). In short, the vibe was amazing...and right on point for their snazzy patio scene. Secondly, the service was exceptional. Our waiter was so friendly and polished...and seamless all throughout. In fact, he was so amazing, we thought he might be the owner of the restaurant. Now the food... OMG!! Their complimentary bread was SO good (loved the dip!), and so was the Clam Chowder Soup. For the entree, my husband went with the Branzino Whole Fish Special and I went with their Salad Special, which came with all types of Seafood...and both were STELLAR!! I can honestly say that this was possibly THE best salad I've ever had in my life. Priced at over 40 bucks it was possibly the most expensive salad as well...but surprisingly, it was worth it! We also tried their award winning Key Lime Pie...and well, we now know why. I don't even like Key Lime pies, but I still loved it! I loved the Cocktail drink as well...think it was called "1941" (or some year like that?). It was sweet, but light and refreshing at the same time. Truly, EVERYTHING was SO good! We both loved it...and despite the lofty pricing, we felt that it was all worth it. read more

We got to town about quarter after nine in the evening after travelling all day. We checked in to the Avalon Hotel, and went to the restaurant. We ate on the porch. There was live music. The temperature was 75 to 80 with a nice breeze. Everything we ordered was wonderful. For drinks we had a mohito, an ocean view, and a glass of zinfandel. Appetizers were scallops and clam chowder. Our main meals were the ahi tuna and the branzino. Desert was the beautiful creme brulee. Wait staff were super helpful and all of the food was pretty to look at and delicious.
