We are typically very leery of calling an on-call doctor from a different practice whom we haven't seen before, because the usual outcome is for either the doctor to immediately follow the path of least resistance and send the patient to the ER or to punt it to the regular doctor on his next day in the office. Those types of interactions usually are a waste of time because they aren't helpful and don't explore any options you don't already know. Although she had never seen my mother, Dr Velasquez immediately took interest in my mom's case. She helped me work through my mom's symptoms and determine that it was best we get to the ER immediately rather than prescribe an antibiotic over the phone and wait until the next day when her regular physician would be available. Her interactions with me were simple and easily understood--not filled with medical jargon--and centered on compassion for my mom's situation and that of my family. When we arrived at the hospital, my mother was triaged and placed in a treatment room within 30 minutes. The ER staff had acknowledged that Dr Velasquez had called ahead and alerted the ER to our arrival. Despite a half-full ER waiting room, some of whom had been waiting for three hours to get past triage, we were dealt with swiftly and courteously. I can't help but think that Dr Velasquez's call had something to do with the rapid response we got. But wait, there's more: When I returned from the hospital, about 5 hours from the point I had first spoken with Dr Velasquez, I got a phone call. It was Dr Velasquez, inquiring as to how things had turned out. She even asked if I was pleased with the decision we had made to go to the ER. I couldn't thank her enough for following up with me and for helping to reach the conclusion that we needed to be at the hospital. Of course, based on this one experience with Dr Velasquez, it is not possible for me to comment on her in-office practice or continuing care. But I can say that the way she treats a total stranger calling about another doctor's patient late on a Sunday afternoon is awesome. And, to find a doctor in this day and time that cares this much over the phone about a patient she's never even seen is truly remarkable. ----- P.S. I found out later this morning that my mom's internist who no longer sees patients in the hospital came by to check on her based on call notes that Dr Velasquez had passed along. After my referral, they keep forgetting to send my records over to the specialist and the staff at the other doctor ended up requesting the records themselves. This was a year ago and I somehow forgot how awful the staff is and decided to schedule another appointment. They called me to remind me of my appointment and new procedures for covid and when I asked them to send the instructions to my email, they said they can't cause they don't have a map. I'm not even asking for a map, just simple instructions but the receptionist is obviously too lazy to do that. My dentist has no problem sending me detailed emails before each appointment so I don't understand why my doctor's office can't. So I told her to go ahead and cancel the appointment and I'm going to find another primary care provider.

When I couldn't accommodate the new time due to work, I was met with clear frustration and no flexibility. So I just made it work anyway. The second happened today: I had a virtual appointment this morning, and moments ago received a phone call demanding immediate payment -- not just for today's appointment, but also for one from a month ago that I hadn't even been notified about until just an hour earlier from my insurance. When I asked if I could pay through the portal, I was repeatedly pressured to pay over the phone instead, as if I was avoiding the bill. I have no issue paying my bill, and in fact, I paid it immediately after the call ended. But I was spoken to as if I had ignored multiple invoices, and the tone felt aggressive and was incredibly inappropriate. I understand that medical offices deal with difficult patients all the time. But kindness should be the standard, not the exception, especially when both phone calls I've had with your office staff have left a bad taste in my mouth. Thankfully, Dr. Ince makes it worth continuing care. But I'm genuinely relieved that my appointments are virtual, because based on how I've been treated, I have no desire to deal with this staff in person.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews of her yet - she runs a small practice but she's a big deal. My first appointment with her was last fall. I was overdue for my annual and, like any normal human being, wasn't looking forward to it. A good friend recommended her with a glowing review. My intention was to call the office, just to ask if she was accepting new patients (she only accepts 600-800 so I figured my chances of getting in were slim). Much to my surprise, Dr. Sorensen was the one to answer the phone! That impressed me enough that I scheduled an appointment for the next week. My first impression of Dr. Sorensen was excellent, and things only got better from there. She literally does everything - she is a one-woman staff, which means she does everything from checking your vitals to dealing with insurance. This approach means that you get to spend more time with her, which means that you feel like anything but just another patient. She also takes a conservative approach to medicine, so when I told her about my occasional anxiety, she recommended things like yoga instead of jumping to more invasive/expensive treatments. Best part of my experience with her? I ended up having a bit of follow-up work the next day, and was obviously concerned about the results. She got back to me the next morning to let me know all was OK and thoroughly explain everything. And the day after that, I got my pap results back. That's right...TWO DAYS after my appointment I got my pap results! I'm used to waiting a minimum of two weeks. She called as soon as she got the results because she didn't want me to worry longer than I needed to...wow. If you are looking for a doctor who uses modern technology (online scheduling, mostly paperless, etc.) but won't provide you with the typical, cold doctor's experience, I strongly recommend Dr. Sorensen.

My initial visit was very through and the Dr took as much time as was needed to understand my medical history, make suggestions, ask questions and actually sit down and have a conversation! That is impressive in todays world. Her practice is purposefully small, self-managed and her interest in medicine and people is clearly visible in how she runs her business and treats her patients. I nearly fell out of my chair when I called to schedule an appointment and Dr Sorensen answered the phone herself. Unheard of! She also makes herself available on nights and weekends to answer calls or come to the office in case urgent issues arise. I believe she truly cares about her patients and wants to manage her practice with the best technology and information available to her. She leverages technology to allow her to have the time to treat the patients, rather than using technology as a crutch to fit more patients into her day. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Sorensen, her sense of professionalism was first rate and she has a compassionate manner that is ideal for families looking for a Family Practice. If all small businesses could be run in the same manner Dr Sorensen is running her business, we would have a true sense of what community really means.

Dr. Julie Reardon has surpassed my wildest expectations of what a family physician CAN--and is willing--to do. I think that's in part because she is a phenomenal physician and person, and I suppose the Harvard education and work with Dr. Andrew Weil doesn't hurt. I'll add that all of the folks in her office are equally as competent and caring. If you are contemplating a visit to Dr. Reardon, it's because you haven't been feeling as well as you should--probably for quite some time. Your insurance-covered doctor has run some general tests that haven't shown anything all that extraordinary; and while you may greatly respect your PCP as I do, you realize that time and budget constraints limit the ability to which they can explore your issues. You may have been told that it's your impending menopause, or your weight, or that you perhaps should consider antidepressants. This is the state of medicine in our current era of managed care, and it's nobody's fault. Sometimes it just IS. Know that, if you can afford her services, "Dr. Julie" will leave no stone unturned in helping you find that road to recovery. She's not one of those "vanity doctors" who will hand you creams, diets, and vitamins to make you ageless and extra hot...although feeling better usually makes you look better! She's a serious, science-based physician with an uncanny ability to relate the typically unrelated, and see the "big picture" of your health situation. In our initial visit, she caught on to trending issues I'd never thought of before, including a potential genetic makeup that leaves me prone to certain problems with mood and energy level that are exacerbated by stress...and I've had a year of that! She ran a gamut of tests after explaining the purpose of each one, and uncovered a problem so critical it was a wonder I even had the energy to get out of bed in the morning. I am no less impressed with our follow-up discussions. She has referred to another provider for an area outside of her realm, and also recommended simple vitamin and supplement changes that will do me a world of good. At the same time, she's not that earth-crunchy guru that's going to mandate that that you live on purified air and chants...hers are moderate lifestyle changes for real people living in our everyday world. Dr. Julie doesn't take insurance, but that allows her to spend true quality time with the patients who sign on with her. I will say that, for the fees involved, I feel like it's been a very good choice for my healthcare dollars. I am finally getting some solid answers as to why I've felt HORRIBLE over just this last year, and I finally feel confident knowing someone's got my back while I take steps to get better. I think there are a lot of docs out there who dream of having a practice like Dr. Julie's--and she has made that dream a reality. When I think about how quickly Dr. Julie started "cracking the case", and all the co-pays and labs past that never quite addressed my issue, I realize that I have now SAVED time and money in the long run. What's more...I could have gotten REALLY sick were it not for Dr. Julie and her findings. She very well might have saved my future from being...well, not so bright. However, since the absence of Dr. Miller, things have gone downhill. I tried about a month ago to refill a recurring prescription and was told I'd need to be seen by Dr. Claudia Legere before I was given a refill, however she was on vacation for a week - oh well. Since then. I've tried to get in three times for various reasons (including that refill) and could never get in within 3 days. Yesterday I came down with something nasty (bronchitis?) and thought, "great, I'll make an appointment, get an antibiotic, and finally get that refill." I called them up and was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment the next day at 12:45, which I repeated back to them and immediately wrote down.. No such luck! I got there early, pleased to see NO ONE in the waiting room only to be told that they had me down at 11:45 and could not see me, and no, they wouldn't refill my prescription. I asked why they didn't call me at 11:45 - I live two minutes away and could have been there immediately. The reception said, "we don't do that, we assume you forgot." That was the last straw! I called River Hills Family Medicine (in River Place) and explained the situation. Even though I was a NEW patient, they got me in immediately. Their staff is pleasant, professional, helpful, and compassionate. They have been referred to me by many people in the past - I'm just sorry I didn't listed to them sooner! Has anyone else had similar issues since they went down to only one Dr. at Steiner Ranch Primary Care? They were an excellent addition to our great community. I hope they can work on their customer service, and stay. Until I hear differently, though, I'll happily drive the extra 5 minutes to see a Dr. who actually cares about her patients.

At our first meeting, I was highly impressed with Dr. Legere's knowledge and professionalism, and her very warm and caring personality. I recently made a second appointment about my migraines, and had explained to her staff about my current condition. I was **highly** impressed when she came to our appointment with a page of carefully researched notes so that we could have a meaningful conversation about treatment options. I have been very fortunate to have had some wonderful doctors in my life. And I can honestly say that Dr. Legere is now at the top of my list.
