I have unfortunately only been on a couple of charter boats before; but the best way for me to describe my experience with this crew is 'a joke.' They were rude, laughed in our face, and blamed us for misinformation they gave us. We stood at the back of the boat with no place to fish for almost the entire first stop. Over booked the 4th of July boat and didn't seem to care. If you pay your money, it should include a seat! Our party of 5 was all split up and unable to sit together. No one was making sure ppl weren't saving seats and that was a real problem. Someone should have made sure everyone made room for those who were still coming on board. Not worth the money spent. The boat was way to packed, the lines were getting tangled the whole time. The staff was not helpful and didn't seem to really care. The boat was so rocky that one of the kids got sea sick and unfortunately got it on one of the employees sweatshirts that was inside on a table. They made a huge fuss about it and were cursing about it and wouldn't stop complaining even after the parent apologized about it . Response: I didn't get sea sick and wouldn't write a poor review even if I did, because that is not their fault. My review was based on the boat being too crowded to fish without lines being tangled and staff who could care less. The lines got tangled so much that I ended up sharing my pole with my kids (they werent sea sick either) taking turns, after paying for 4 of us to fish. As a business owner you should be more aware of how your staff is treating customers unless its just a money pit. read more

My fiancé and I went for our first time and it was so amazing. We picked the more expensive one ($40 pp) oppose to the north star Groupon deal because it got better reviews.... Reviews don't lie, we could see the other boat and it was CROWDED shoulder to shoulder, I don't know how those people could even fish comfortably or cast. This boat was amazing to be a novice on. Great and very family friendly. Amazing crew. So knowledgeable and willing to assist. Great senses of humor when your reel looks like a 9 year old girl's tangled head of hair. Keep your thumb on the reel when you drop your line in. You'll be pulling out fish all day. Just wanted to give a big thank you to the Laura lee. A group of for us went on the 6 pm night bass trip. We left the dock and as soon as we got to the spot where we were going to fish my buddy got a call that a family member was in a very serious car accident. We informed the crew about the situation and they couldn't have been more understanding and professional as they were. The captain turned the boat around and headed right back to the dock for us. Also the passengers were very understanding. So thank you to everyone that was on that boat last night especially the captain and crew. We will absolutely be back fishing with them. We went for a striper night trip. The dock to check in was very nice, with a small restaurant (with quick food options) and public bathrooms. The dock has several boating charters leaving. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were allowed to board once the last charter left. All the fishing gear was included in the cost, and the captain took us out to several spots. He let us fish all the way until 10pm (versus us being at the dock by 10pm)! On boat there is a ladies and a mens single bathroom, no snack bar, inside seating area with tables. The only reason I docked off stars were some (not all of the staff) were openly complaining about not making enough in tips that day (I guess from their previous morning/afternoon charter). We felt a little uncomfortable hearing about it. Some of the staff's friends (I think they were off duty mates) were also using those smoke-free cigarettes and cursing a lot up front by us. I thought it was a little unprofessional compared to the charter we took the next day in Freeport. read more

I fish on the Laura Lee or the Laura Lee Express at least once a week. There is not a more knowledgeable and professional crew anywhere else out of Captree. The mates are all top notch. They are always willing to give you advice about what has been working lately for different species. Sometimes, they will go after a different species or to a different location than specified. This is only to make sure you have the best chance to catch fish. I have been on trips for Fluke, Sea Bass, Stripers, and Cod. There is no captain anywhere that can control the bite or the weather, but the Laura Lee captains know where the fish are. Perfect boat for families with young children as well. I always see the crew take the time to help them get their first catch. Without a doubt, this is the best fleet to fish with if you want to have a great time, catch fish, and learn from pros. read more

Great experience with the family! We had three young children and the crew took care of them making sure they had a great and safe experience. We caught about 15 fish including sea bass, mackerel and porgies. The crew filleted the ones I wanted and I cooked our catch in the oven and on the grill for dinner! Awesome experience. read more

Laure Lee is the best boat out of Captree. I caught four keepers one was 27 inches and weighed over 6 lbs. The crew is very experienced and helpful, we had five kids and three adults crew worked well with the whole boat. Captain knew exactly where to go to catch the big fish. Horrible. We went 4 times prior. The deckhands like to fish and push customers out of the way, they get pissy if you want to take a pic with the fish, and they like to waste the last hour of your trip parked in an "unfishy" spot so they can clean the boat before they dock. read more

I always try to get on the Laura Lee when I go out of Captree. I recently went with my 9 year old son & a friend of mine with his 9 year old. We all had a great day, we caught some shorts (fluke) & 2 keepers, & some big Sea Robins which we kept as well. The deckhands were great, especially Joe. The best fishing boats in Long island. A boat is a boat but what makes the Laura Lee fleet stand out in my opinion is the crew. The captains know where the fish are at all times and tides. The mates are hands down the most professional, friendly crew I've ever found. I feel like I'm fishing with friends when I go out on the Laura Lee boats. They have 2 boats that go out at all times of the day and night, that makes them extremely convient in fitting into whatever schedule I happen to have. By far the hardest working Captian Buddah, and Crew you could want. Works hard to get you on fish and is not happy if you are not happy. The crew is amazingly responsive and friendly. I don't know if I just got lucky but both times I've been on the boat we had a great time at sea with lots of keepers and lots of fun! Mates are very professional and always willing to help. I am by no means a professional fisherman. On the contrary this was my first time fishing on a boat with my boyfriend and Together we caught 3 seabass 2 porgies and 1 bluefish. I have been fishing the Captree fleet for years. I finally hooked up with the LauraLee 3 years ago and trust me, there is no better boat. The fishing is always good and Captain Neil runs a tight ship. The best part of every trip is the crew. The crew can make or break your day regardless of how many fish you catch or not. Renee, Mike, Marge, Brian, Kim and Dan and all the others make you feel at home. I have not yet met anyone who does not like this boat. We went "not fishing" on this boat. Went for the 5 1/2 hour stripper trip and only fished for an hour. They captain drove around for 4 1/2 hours. They wouldn't even give the skunked discount cards for the next time. I would strongly not recommend the Laura Lee. read more

You only catch good fish more on the night trips or have a better chance of at least catching a keeper vs the day trips. Also, I went on a night trip a few weeks ago and caught 12 big porgies and my mom likes fish like that whole but cleaned. So I told the crew member that and all they did was gut it. They didn't scale it and I felt terrible for my mom because she was up till 1am scaling the damn porgies because the crew can't do their job. I thought the process for the cleaning of the fish is scaling also. Apparently on this boat it's not. It's honestly so upsetting that i pay $55 for myself and they cant fucking scale a fish? So I went on another night trip and they did the same thing EXCEPT this time I asked for it to be scaled and a crew member named sam goes "we don't scale, only gutted and whole or filet" and in my head i was so dissatisfied and i went home with the fish and my mom was up till 2 in the morning scaling fish. The captree Princess can scale and I believe the island princess does too but laura lee fleet cant? I love going fishing but Im second guessing going on this boat ever again. read more

One day I went on an afternoon sea-bass and porgy trip only to get skunked. they're were few keepers and just keepers at that. Later on that day I was shocked to see a post on their Facebook saying they limited out on sea-bass on the trip I was just on!!!! They posted pictures of buckets full of fish!!! "Fishing trip" was 1/2 hour of fishing and the rest of the time moving from spot to spot. 60+ people on the boat and only 3 fish caught because every time we were allowed to drop our hooks, three minutes later we had to pull them out of the water so the captain (and I use the term loosely!) could move the boat...again! And if you don't like to be around smokers, don't get on this boat. The crew all smoked non-stop, both outside and inside the cabin. read more

The 1st time I booked a 7:00 a.m. trip with the Laura lee express was amazing I recommended it to my dad and brother unfortunately the 2nd trip I had with them was not so great. We had an issue with Mike who is the 1st mate in the boat, who we also purchased the tickets for the pool. As the trip came to an end we did not hear any announcements of the last fish weight in, we went to the back and Mike the first mate refused to weight our fish and told us with the upmost disrespectful tone of voice and grabbed the fish they had weighted, which was supposedly the heaviest one, and was thrown at my feet and mike told us you did not catch the heaviest fish, without even weighting our fish. And as a police officer I felt extremely horrible the way I was treated by this individual. Again I still do recommend the Laura Lee Express everyone else was amazing, just not when the 1st mate Mike is working on the boat. read more

I was out with them this summer, didn't do great but where else do you have a beautiful pleasant afternoon on a big clean boat for 50 bucks! They have lots of crew members who are all helpful, they give you free bait and tackle, and spend extra time with newbies- I was with 2 kids and they couldn't have been nicer. i dont know how i got convinced into getting up at 4 am to drive out to no where, to spend the day on a boat trying to fish. i was 1 of 4 girls, on a entire boat full of men ((((not boys, not guys, MEN :) ))) they said to bring lunch~ dont worry about it, youll be to sea sick to eat. at least thats what the rest of my group said ~suckers~ as far as service, the crew was helpful gave us pointers, showed us how to cast and kept untangling us eventually we got the hang of it but alas only caught a baby sting ray which had to get thrown back. did i have fun, sure but that comes with the people you are with and watching 3 girls puke all over the boat, and i mean alllllllllll over~was GREAT. read more
