It's really all about your expectations. Do not expect anything fancy or luxurious. There are no stewards on this boat. Do expect a clean (albeit older) boat and great live music while cruising the bay. There is plenty of seating, most of it comfortable. Many will find the included beer/wine acceptable, but there is a full bar selling upgraded/mixed drinks also. Hear the music from inside or outside the boat but the views are best outside, of course. Keep reminding yourself that you are here for the "great live music while cruising the bay" and then the long wait for a small portion of lousy food won't matter as much. read more

I would give this a great review if I only wanted to have great scenery; hear good music (Beatles cover band) have unlimited cheap wine and beer and BONUS- and a buffet that ran out 1 hour into the three hour cruise. Extra points for getting to pay twice what it was worth for a nice boat ride. Also very helpful to hear when you complain that ' the people on this cruise always overeat.' Low rating as the owner/bar manager basically said "F* ourselves". Plus - Band was good (BeyondFab-Beatles Cover band)! Plus - Weather was great. Pretty cherry summer sunset. Meh - Cruise was more of a float in south bay near Fire Island lighthouse. 3 hrs. basically drifting between RM Bridge and Kismet. Saving gas, WTH? BIG MINUS!! - They billed as dinner cruise with beer and wine incl. Boat left at 5PM, they had no food by 6PM for a sold out cruise they only loaded the 2 green cooler/thermoses to feed 140 paid riders. No announcement food was available. No control over servings (like a dinner ticket as you boarded so they could control those who attacked several times within that "40 Minutes" and took everything but the disgusting penne with clam sauce. Really?!) I was not expecting much, but I didn't expect to have nothing. Many on board were also left wanting and told, "well we ordered enough for paid +20 people. You should have come sooner." I can tell you from personal experience those 2 coolers could not have had enough for 50 people (a chicken dish, steak tidbits with broccoli, the penne dish and the salad) let alone 140. They charge $10 per person for the food they advertise is the dinner. With $1,400, I could damn well guarantee a better catering than they produced, and with dessert. There is a line between an opps and outright money grab. This was definitely feeling like let max our profit and just get them drunk so they don't care. There are better options available and I will be opting for them next time out. read more

I have been on the MOON CHASER Cruises many; many times and we LOVE IT! We have just gone on July 4th Cruises; Cruises with Bands (I've even play a few times) and of course the Awesome Flynn's Fire Island Dinner Cruises! ALL GREAT and FUN! Boarding was easy. Picked some seats with the group and went down to the bar to get a drink from the ride. I asked how much it would be for southern comfort on the rocks. I don't know what I would be willing to pay but I was shocked when the guy told me it would be $15! Too much for me. I guess I'm cheap. They have a captive audience for roughly an hour. They could be way more reasonable with their drinks! I was looking forward to having a drink or two while taking in the beautiful sunset. Oh well. read more

We went on a wonderful boat trip on the Moon Chaser at Captree State Park. The 3 hour trip featured a great Beatles band Liverpool Shuffle. This was probably the 4th or 5th forth of July spent on the moon chaser. Every time I've been on the boat (including my 8th grade class trip) has been a blast. As we pulled up at Captree my husband actually said to me how going on the cruise was perfect and makes life so easy instead of fighting traffic at the Jones Beach fireworks show. Well this time, we ate his words. While lined up to board, we got to observe interesting clientele awaiting the same cruise. When we boarded we sat waiting for a while. Our ship was the last out of the fleet going out and we departed late. I don't get the wait for people mentality but that's just me. The price of the boat was $60 per person which includes food, fireworks, and beer/wine/soda. The food available was a crab salad, quinoa salad, cheese, pasta salad. There was a DJ on board which played anything from 80s to rap to oldies. When we arrived to watch the fireworks we were the last ones to come into the area so of course we were the furthest. The Jones Beach fireworks were far. Instead of the captain anchoring like other times, he kept the engine going and we basically did donuts in the water as he was rotating the boat for perhaps everyone to view it. However, my husband and I felt this very annoying as we had to keep switching viewing locations. We basically missed half the show. I don't think we will be back to this cruise which is unfortunate considering it was once our go to 4th of July plan. read more

Not good is an understatement! Complete money grab. Oversold the boat, not enough crew members to assist you with seating because of the amount of people. No announcement that food was being served. After seeing people with plates in their hands, our party of 6 made it down to the lower deck to eat. We find two trays, one with about 8 pieces of lettuce and the other with about 10 pieces of macaroni sitting in cold water and a dead bug. I guess we should have filled up on the warm ,cheap beer and wine they served. Only bright spot was the Beatles band and the sunset! That's it. Complained and was offered $10 bucks back. Went to a restaurant after and spent $300. HUGE disappointment ! Terrible read more

Please know going in, before you purchase tickets; you must arrive at LEAST an hour before the scheduled time to get a seat. The "regular" customers seem to dicatate where you can & can't sit; as there is no crew to organize this sold out boat. You have to setup your own folding chairs, if you are lucky enough to find any stashed under the benches. Aside from the lack of crew & seating issues; the food ran out by 6pm. Our group was not aware it was being served on the lower deck, When confronted, they simply stated "some people came back for seconds". This is a terrible way to do business. On a positive note, the Band "Beyond Fab" was great! We will not be buying tickets for the Moon Chaser anytime soon. read more

The owner is awesome and very respectful and friendly. The Moon Chaser had a comforting atmosphere and is very clean. The staff is always around to help you if you need something or anything else . There drink prices are very reasonable for drinking on the water. I definitely recommend coming on this boat during the summer to have a enjoyable time out on the water and catch a beautiful sunset. read more

Very disappointed!! We went with a group of friends to celebrate a Birthday. The boat never left the dock! no explanation until one of our friends finally found the Captain. He said the battery wouldn't start. He finally made an announcement at 9:30 that we weren't leaving the dock. How do pay for a cruise, and never even leave the dock! Meanwhile, the food was put out. Cold chicken and pasta with clam sauce, cold vegetables and salad with dressing we had to pour from a gallon jug. The toilets wouldn't flush. Band wasn't bad, but this definitely wasn't worth the $50pp charge. We should've been told that boat wasn't going out and been given the choice of a refund. It ruined a beautiful evening! Re-upping our review of last year- a Moonchaser trip - whether it's a Bay Jam or a trip to Fire island to Flynn's - is a highlight of our summer! We just got back from another amazing Flynn's trip to Ocean Bay Park on Fire Island! The staff is top notch, the crowd is fun, and the sunsets on the boat are phenomenal. I can't believe that you can feel like you're away from your day-to-day life at that price. Very reasonable for Long Island, and Dan and I recommend you check out the Moonchaser for at least one Bay Jam and one Flynn's trip to make your summer complete. If you want to stay tied up to the pier all night and receive little to no communication from the crew this is the cruise to take. Last night a group of 9 of us booked the 3 hour dinner cruise to celebrate a friend's birthday. The boat was suppose to leave at 8:30 and board 30 minutes prior to departure; we didn't board until 8:20 1st clue something was wrong. We were still at the pier at 9:15 and no one could answer what was wrong. When one of my friends asked the "captain" what was going on she was informed that the battery needed charging and wouldn't be leaving the pier. When she expressed her dissatisfaction his reply was, "life is full of disappointments, and this is one of them!" So if you want to be disappointed this is the cruise to take. read more

Unappealing crowd, unappealing food, plus they need to perhaps update the wine/beer they serve. $63 per person on July 4th definitely affords them to at least get a step up from what they have. This is definitely not an activity for anyone under 60. They also had us board the boat and sit there unmoving for at least 30 mins, then proceeded to get us STUCK on a "sand dune" which caused us to get back an hour and 30 mins later than we should have. A small emergency boat had to come and try to help move this huge ship. How could you be so unprepared considering it's a major holiday and you do these types of cruises all the time? The cherry on top was definitely the woman who was behind the appetizer counter helping serve, sprawled out asleep, seemingly under the influence. This turned out to be the mother of one of the middle aged workers on the boat. Over all really turned off by our experience. read more

Don't even bother with this boat, horrible service and rude captain. Wait staff was uninformed and had no clue how to assist a customer with a complaint. We booked a boat cruise for 3 hours on Friday night. The Moon Chaser boat had battery trouble before we even boarded the boat, but yet they let paid boat cruise passengers on board, never informed us of any engine trouble, opened the food and bar and we all thought the boat would be leaving shortly, supposedly leaving at 8:30 PM as on our tickets. Several attempts were made to get answers to no avail, and after finding the captain at 9:30, boat still tied to the dock, the captain/co-owner said to me after my complaint that there would be absolutely no refunds, the boat would not sail and that "life is full of disappointments, and this is one of them". I was told to just go and enjoy the night. I have never been treated by an owner/co-owner of a business with such outright disregard as a customer who paid for a certain service. I will never step foot on this boat again and I advise anyone thinking of going on this boat for a fun evening out to rethink it and make alternative plans. Not worth it!! Just like the bathroom on this boat, it stinks. read more
