Had my pooches nails trimmed today... Treated em great and had em calm which is rare... The manager there Monica took well care of us

*This is only an experience for GROOMING* I thought this would be a good experience since I have seen a lot of positive reviews on yelp. However, my dog (a bichon) came back from the grooming today with two wounds on him, one on his belly and one on his rare leg, both with the size of a pinky toe nail. I was unhappy and I called the store. I got the reply from the store saying that the groomer did not notice anything during the grooming, which is acceptable since it may be just an accident. However, the store went on and told me that it is highly possible that my dog scratches his own skin off because he is itchy or he got scratches when he came out of the cage. It really pisses me off that they are trying to tell me that the wound is caused by my own puppy. I think I can distinguish a cut (there is a neat edge of the wound so it's definitely a cut instead of a scratch) from a scratch. Honestly, if your dog comes back from a grooming with two wounds all the sudden, there is a high possibility that it is caused by the groomer (unless your dog decided to scratch his own skin off just during the grooming). The store did offer me to go back and let them take a look. I refused because I don't see how they will admit that it's the groomer's fault based on what they already said (my dog scratched his own skin off and all that). The second time the store called, they offer me half price for the second grooming. REALLY? Why would I go back to a place where my puppy got wounded and refused to admit it? Shouldn't the store at least refund me this time? Or, simply, admit it's an accident happened during the grooming. I am not going back for another grooming. I know accidents could happen and it's nobody's fault. However, it would be nice if the store does consider the possibility that my dog was wounded during the grooming. I am just very very disappointed in how they deal with the situation and will never go back again. read more

The staff are all experienced and helpful without being asked. The convenience of not having to clean up all that hair out of my own bathtub drain afterward: priceless! Speaking of, prices are fine, but I wouldn't care, worth every penny. And Faye, the mgr, easily clips my scaredy-cat dog's extra long nails that my own vet didn't dare touch! I love laundromutt - they are so awesome. The first time I took my dog there was during the heat wave - I was really worried about him since we didn't have a/c, and I needed to get him out of the house - but we had just got him and so I was nervous leaving him alone. Laundromutt came to the rescue and me and the dog hung out in their barkalounge - they were super sweet about it! The second time was to wash my dog myself - pretty cool service. You don't get really wet, and all the mess that is made happens there instead of your own bathroom! They all really know dogs and are really helpful. They also have a fantastic leave in conditioner when you blow dry the dog that's included, I'd suggest using lots of it - my dog was super silky for a few good days! Owners are really nice and often remember your dog. It's a fun experience! One suggestion: Call ahead on the weekend to see how long the wait is - it can be an hour sometimes! (note: I do have a huge dog a a tiny bathroom that I literally can't even get him into - so if I can't hose him off in the yard then I need to bring him here!) read more

I was a little underwhelmed. We took our dog here for a shampoo, dry and nail clipping. I thought the price was rather high ($48) for 45 minutes of work. And our longish-haired dog came back still smelling dirty and kind of wet. We got way better results for nearly half the price at Petsmart. We just hate the service at Petsmart and were looking for someplace more local to take our dog. This isn't it. We will keep looking. read more

Very disappointed in my first and last experience here. I called to schedule an appointment to which I was asked to leave my info for a call back. I was called back almost 3 hours later to schedule. Made my appointment and was feeling ok about my decision. A few days went by then it was the day of my scheduled appoibtment. I called that morning of my appointment to reschedule as I completely forgot about a wedding in another state I needed to attend. (My appointment was later in the day, so they did have time to reschedule if need be). I was very apologetic and I asked if I could reschedule right then. The woman I spoke with was extremely rude and informed me that if I would like to make another appointment I would need to pay in advance. I was never informed of this during my initial conversation of scheduling which makes for poor customer service for both me and my pooch. Let's just say I did like all the positive reviews on here, but I won't be calling to schedule anything with this establishment. read more

I have been to Laundromutt three times and each experience has been wonderful. I don't actually take my dog there so that I can bathe him. I do that at home. However, when I want his nails trimmed (you can just walk in for that) or fully groomed - the haircut, nails, etc. - I take him to Alanna at the Fresh Pond Laundromutt. She is super nice and both times my dog came out looking like a rock star! My dog was in a great mood and I could tell he had a good time there. I came to Alanna by many good references from other dog owners in my neighborhood and she is well worth it. I have a wheaten terrier and depending upon his cut, he can have a lot of hair. She takes her time and even gives you tips on better grooming at home. If you want an appointment with her you have to book way in advance though. As of right now, I think she's scheduled 8 weeks out. If you can get an appointment, go to her! read more

Is Laundromutt under new management? I used to love the place but since the Fall it's been really disappointing. I sometimes go weekly (my pup frolics at Fresh Pond and then needs a bath ). Once a month, my happy-go-lucky 14-month old mutt gets her nails done here. She doesn't quibble about it. Or didn't. The old staff were so happy to see us and loved dogs so much that she didn't mind the bath and the clipping. Today she screamed when they clipped her back nails and we didn't get them all trimmed. She was fine with the front. I was scared and we actually switched groomers to get it done. I'm upset about the experience and really surprised i was charges full price, especially since not all her nails were trimmed. [On a side note, the place isn't as clean as it used to be and the towels were very stained. I'm sure it was clean but it looked like it had been used as a rag. White towels are relatively easy to keep clean, so this is just sloppy.] So very disappointed to see a great local establishment go downhill. read more

The folks who own and work at Laundromutt have one thing in common-- a sincere love for dogs! I've known Evan and Bitsy since they first opened. They found a gem in Alana who I met in Brookline where I teach my classes and hang my sign. As a dog behavior consultant serving the Greater Boston Area, I frequently meet people who are struggling to keep their dog's coats' in good shape. I send these clients to Alana because I trust her. Many times, she has spent two or three hours doing private grooming sessions with hard to groom dogs or those that simply have never had a professional grooming. It makes all the difference to the dog and moreso for the owner. Alana changes how dogs feel about being handled by a relative stranger... In short, she 'gets it' and more importantly, she cares! read more

We take our dog to Laundromutt almost every time he needs a wash - our small bathroom and accompanying tub just don't cut this 60lb bundle of total LOVE and sometimes after wrangling him in and out of it, the clean up is just not worth saving the $15 (and occasionally the extra $10 for nails). Laundromutt is pretty close to us and everyone is always friendly and welcoming. Every single visit is an eye opening menagerie of various big and little (and in between) breeds and staff do a pretty good job in keeping everyone flowing through in a timely manner. Our dog especially appreciates the free samples at the front counter, not to mention the vast array of doggie treats available (and heaps of pick and mix options, which is great when you don't want to buy an entire bag or box). read more

We have used this place a few times for grooming the last three years. We were somewhat satisfied, but this last time will be our last. I called, a week earlier, made the appt. I showed up, and they did not have me wrote down. They were kind enough to squeeze him in, but when I picked him up, he definitely did not get the cut he always got before. Very sloppy, hair everywhere, and his ears were filled with small pieces of hair. It seemed they didn't even brush him out. He doesn't shed, but he was getting hair everywhere when we got home. He has started to scratch himself since then, so we took him to the vet, and they seem to think he may have picked up mites at the groomers. Service was okay, the lady that usually does him was grumpy. The environment seems different, unorganized and didn't seem very pet friendly like they use to be. I guess We will return to the other groomer. What really blew me away was that they charged more then they ever have. I asked if the prices went up, the guy wasn't sure what to say. Geeze! read more

I love this place, and am a big fan of being able to wash my own dog and not have to clean up the mess. i've learned my lesson, though, and will not be returning back on the weekends. when we first started taking our dog here, two years ago maybe, i would wait to go on a saturday or sunday so my husband could join (and help). you could wait upstairs in the dog lounge, where there was ample seating, fresh water, a thoughtful selection of pet-inspired reading material. so, we didn't mind the 30+ minute wait on a super busy weekend morning. our last visit, however, was a different story. we had about a 45 minute wait, which was our fault for heading over at a peak time in the afternoon. so we headed upstairs to the lounge to wait, but would've been better off sitting in our car. the room had been taken over by grooming tables, placed in front of the only seating area. the couches were COVERED with hair, hair was everywhere. no more bookshelves, no paper cups to have a drink from the water cooler. the room was pretty disgusting, and as an employee there i would've been embarrassed to send a family up there to wait for an extended period of time. i think it's great that the shop is busy, everyone is super nice and friendly all the time. however, i think our wait could've been shortened a little because of one girl (whom i had never seen before), who was too busy chatting with a customer that was an old friend of hers. people were constantly waiting for assistance to take their dog in/out of the tubs and tables, and she wasn't paying the slightest attention to anyone but her friend. read more

After a long hiatus, I recently returned to Laundromutt, only to be disappointed. I had been a regular customer since they had first opened until my last dog died in 2011. I've been there twice in the last month, and both times the customer service was poor. No one was waiting at the counter to check people in or to take payments. They eliminated the waiting area, and now people must mill around with their dogs in the store trying to keep them away from the treats. And in both cases never did I see all the wash areas being used at once. I wonder if they let it fall to disrepair over the years or have cut back on staff. I saw no sign of the owners, who used to be there all the time. And they had a sign posted that said they recently raised their prices. Not a great idea if you're going to cut back on service. All in all, the only thing this place still has going for it is location and that it is still fairly cheap. Not sure if I'll be back again. I'd suggest the owners pay more attention. read more

I agree that it is the best place to clean your dog yourself. They show you what to do, accept whatever behavior your dog demonstrates and let you take as long as you need whether it is washing or drying your pup. The food prices used to beat a lot of the other 'botique' competitors but recently the brand I buy went up in price to the same as other dog groomers and specialty stores. I like that it is locally owned and they play good music, it's clean, staff are friendly. I used the Cambridge location until Newton Center opened. Now I groom my dog a lot more frequently because it is convenient for me to get there, parking is easy and inexpensive and I can do other errands with a nice clean dog around Newton Center ie banking, Staples nearby, etc. read more

In my opinion this place is great. I have a dog who is not good with other dogs. They handled us very professionally. They let everyone in the shop know that there was a dog coming in that isn't good with other dogs. They then cleared the way for my pup to go straight to a bath. They were so lovely, I gave my dog a bath for 15-20 mins. I was so pleased with them I had to give a tip, tell them I would certainly be back, and write a review on Yelp. The groomer here is amazing- We (and our dog) LOVE this place! They're always friendly and so clearly dog lovers.

Great place. Sometimes a bit crowded and you have to wait (like on a Sun. afternoon). But it is a great idea, and our dog is way less afraid of getting a bath there than he is at home. For an actual haircuit we take our dog to their affiliate in Newton. You can always get an appointment and the groomer there is awesome. read more

Took our dog for badly needed, very overdue grooming. I knew this when I called, even asked if I could bring the dog in to get checked out visually before committing to an appointment several weeks later. Went to pick up our dog, and in front of several people, groomer made it a point to tell me what horrible shape the dog was in- and acted horrified that we would choose to not have him completely shaved. Had I said that I had just rescued this dog from a shelter, I would have been seen as a hero. The truth was that someone rescued him years ago, and then, because of a severe medical condition, couldn't brush him for almost a year. This was no one's business... Overall, it it terrible customer service to try and publicly shame one's customers. The groomer announced that he would not work on this dog again. AS IF I would ever go back!!! read more

I read many reviews before writing my own. I recently moved here from Atlanta and had been searching for a DIY style dog wash. I discovered this location after letting my dog get sloppy at Fresh Pond. It is a convenient location and the staff was very friendly upon arriving. It was Sunday and a bit busy but was able to get my dog in a tub rather quickly. Prices are a bit higher then what I am used to but they give you options to decrease those cost. The staff assisted in grabbing some stairs and were very informative regarding how to use the equipment. I like the way the have the shampoo set up to come through the hose which makes bathing much quicker and easier. As others have mentioned the towel they provided is quite small but not a show stopper. In the future I will prepare more wisely by bringing an extra towel in the car for any excess drying that might be needed. The shop does have many great toys and treats to choose from as well. I look forward to visiting again. read more

I recently had my pooch groomed here at laundrromut.lets just say my boy was long overdue for a wash and a cut.i have a goldendoodle who is quite large and not to fond of the whole grooming process.i was a little reluctant going to a new groomer because we havnt had the best luck with some of the other local groomers.i have to say the groomer there was super friendly and put me at ease leaving him with a new person.i got a call in about 3 hours letting me know that he was ready to be picked up.i was pleasantly surprised with the prompt service.i must say that Charlie has not looked this good in a long time.hes been strutting around the house (and dog park like he knows hes llookin good!)one of the best haircuts hes gotten.will def return for another appointment.thank you laura. read more

Thank goodness for the staff and facilities at laundromutt. I have a mastiff named Gracie that I rescued.Gracie is not only large but she is also timid around strangers.Having a place to bathe her myself in such a clean, low stress enviroment is fantastic.Also Theo and Alana are there to help with any questions ( grooming or behaivor issues ) that you may have. I also have friends that come from Brookline to Laundromutt to have their dogs professionally groomed by Alana. Not only are the prices lower but the dogs come out looking bettor. read more

The place is wonderful - it's easy to use and the staff are incredible! You can tell that they're animal lovers and they are kind and gentle with dog. They're really lifesavers as my dog hates having her nails clipped, but they handle it like experts and my dog now doesn't mind the clipping process! Two stars for today for the groomer. I have frequented and like the self serve bathing for my mutt, but today was the first time for the groomer. I believe she is independent from the business. I made my appointment 3 weeks in advance, for 12noon. At that time I was told to plan a 3 hour window until pick up. When I arrived we discussed the specifics of the grooming. She gave me the same 3 hour window of time for pick up. At the 3 hour mark, I received a call telling me she was behind and my pooch would be ready by 5 or 6. I told them how unhappy I was at this, and asked for someone to take her out to relieve herself, and to make sure there was water available. I arrived at 5:00. and when checking out, told I owed $60. I had been quoted $55. I told them I would give them $50. They did accept that payment. When we arrived home, my dog took the longest pee I have ever seen her take. She then drank the entire bowl of water that was full. I will not use that groomer again. read more
