The food was good but We were very disappointed with the unfriendly and unaccommodating service. They close at 8 and our friends ordered beers at 7:30 and they demanded the glasses twice when they weren't finished and we had to finish our food outside. They were rude to us. Bollywood bowl with kale instead of grains. Delicious, not really spicy as described in the menu. It was very filling and satisfying. Really great flavor and all the veggies very tender. When you are an establishment known for your customized menu items it's important that orders are prepared properly. Case in point....Bean & cheese burrito. Menu states beans cheese (so far so good) rice and pico. Not a fan of pico so I nix that and add tempeh. Burrito arrives (quite awhile) later and Beans(check) cheese (check) rice (check) tempeh (check) no pico good then WTF??? It's packed full of kale??? I hate waste and considering how long it took to get initially (with no one in front of me) I got to spend the rest of my meal picking out bitter cheese covered kale. I would go back even after this incident because overall I like Laughing Planet but there is a caveat. In the future I will only return with cash or not at all. These places need to get it through their heads that the guilt pre tipping screen tilting after you pay needs to stop. read more

I am so grateful for the friendly and accommodating staff at my local Laughing Planet (Hollywood). Paige and Cyprus(sp?) were kind enough to hold my order for a few minutes past closing so I could get my sick kids their prescriptions at the pharmacy. Lately there hasn't been good quality control. This has been my experience since August. I regularly order a kale Cesar salad and twice recently it's been swimming in Cesar dressing. In the past, it was made properly with just the right amount of dressing, not doused. Also, the portion size of burrito varies wildly. I ordered a bubba burrito two days in a row and one was enormous and the one ordered a day later was about 2/3's the size of the one ordered the day before. I'm not sure why things vary so much with the same dishes but it's been a disappointment. read more

Used to be a really reliable place to eat after hitting the gym but today ordered the special bibimbap bowl and it was terrible. Basically soup with very little rice and overall cold and meager. The flavor of the kimchi was good but with everything being cold, including the pork and rice and veg, and soupy it was a most disappointing meal. And doubly considering the price. I would give them a ZERO STAR if I could. I order a mini burrito and was very adamant about "nothing with cilantro... no pico... nothing" and it came loaded with cilantro. Asked to have it remade and they told me "the kitchen is closed.... Sorry". No offer to refund me or make an offer to remake it. I used to like this place but now I'll never come back based on the customer service of the cooking staff. Teller was nice and apologetic but it was the cooking staff that came out and cut her off when she was trying to fix the situation. What if I said no peanuts and there was peanuts in the food? Traveling for work and the kombucha on tap and veggie menu made me journey over from the hotel. Placed my order (veggie chili and kale salad) with a kombucha and took my number to wait for my food. The kombucha was amazing, they ran out of the first flavor after half a glass and brought me a full glass of the new keg. Both were really delicious. While my food was being prepared I got a phone call with news of a family pet passing. I hadn't expected to burst into tears at dinner. The sweet staff member came from behind the counter very chipper and commenting on how amazing the chili smelled, saw my tears and immediately began to comfort me. Said it was the onions making me cry, which made me smile. I apologized for the unexpected tears and the moment she caught me in. She told me feelings are real and it was ok and let her know if I needed anything. A few minutes later she came back and brought me a cookie and asked if I liked chocolate. She said I deserved it and she genuinely hoped I had a better night. The food was delicious and in itself I would give this place 5 stars. The restaurant was clean and it felt comfortable and chill, great vibe and parking was a breeze. The hospitality and customer service in this raw moment were incredible. I haven't had this level of customer service in awhile. I could not be more appreciative of this person in this moment. Thank you again for your kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion. If I lived in Portland I would visit this establishment regularly from here on out. With the harshness of the world we need people like you who are the healers and beautiful souls. This was surprisingly good! I didn't expect such freshness and flavors. Yes, it's bent on the healthier spin but there are so many choices that everyone can find something. Salads, burritos and bowls are the majority of their menu. They also have beer, wine and all sorts of fruit drinks and kombucha too! You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. I had to try the bi bim bowl and my husband decided to try the Santa Fe bowl. Mine had brown rice, marinated and flavorful beef, lots of broccoli and fresh lightly marinated pickles. No, it's not authentic bi bim bop but I wasn't under that illusion. It was still a tasty, flavorful bowl just the right size for a lunch. I had a bite of my husbands Santa Fe bowl with pulled pork. Delicious but a little watery at the end. I enjoyed the cleanliness and modern, funky decor. The people at the counter were nice and helpful. I like their offerings over the years, but haven't found one rave worthy item. There's a recent Facebook list of the most interesting burritos in America and Laughing Planet's "Cuban" made the list. It was...a black bean heavy yawn. The dipping sauce also meh. I regularly buy bean and cheese burritos at Trader Joe's ($2.99) and from Higher Taste (New Season's, Wholefoods, etc.) so I expected a better one from a restaurant. Although the size is much larger at Laughing Planet, I didn't care for the pinto beans. So I'll stick with the grocery version. I guess I'll never have the love relationship that many Portlander's have. read more

I love Laughing Planet. They consistently provide me with delicious and healthy food before work. The couple dollars more I pay for takeout here is completely worth it. You can't come close to food like this at the hospital. So glad they decided on Hollywood for a new location. It's great that they have coupons in Chinook Book. I use these a lot. I also really like their buy a $25 gift card, get a free shirt promotion. Since we missed out on Thanksgiving dinner this year, I grabbed a Holiday Bowl at LP the week before and had my fill of turkey goodness. Yum! This was a seasonal bowl. I really enjoy eating at Laughing Planet in the Hollywood Dist. The staff during lunch time are pretty chill and friendly, and the food is a perfect meal for lunch-- not too heavy, not too light. I really enjoy their food options (which is very diet friendly)! I also like how thier ingredients are fresh and local. Nothing like supporting the local farms and small business. Too bad the service doesn't match the food quality. I waited inside (very close to the register) for my order only to realize after 20 minutes that someone had quietly left the bag on the table, didn't bother to call my name which was illegibly scribbled on the bag, not sure how long it had been sitting there. Of course the young hipsters behind the counter couldn't seem to care less. And yes, I understand the difficulties of covid, but this was just blatantly poor service. The food and service is just what you normally expect from Laughing Planet.......Amazing! Got the Harvest bowl and the Thai bowl. I liked the thai bowl a bit better probably because the peanut sauce was tastey. But both meals were acceptable. Im only rating 3 stars because nothing impressed me as extrodinarily delicious. Portions meh.....for $9 only my humble opinion its slim also the fact they dont give you any side item with your bowl. I'll give Laughing Planet another try. I got there rather late 8.30 and they close at 9. I got take away and im thinking the "Dine in" at an earlier hour will probably be a whole different experience. They do offer unlimited refills dine in of course. But the weird thing is to get a refill you have to ask an employee to get it for you. Why not leave it as self serve. Who wants to have to bother to get some body just to fill their drink. They were really nice on the phone with me when I checked in, understanding about my not being able to get there since Door Dash failed to pick up and food. Very chill and very professional! I like Laughing Planet because I know, for the most part, what I'm going to get and the quality of the ingredients. While I'm ecstatic to have a location nearer to me, I feel sometimes that I'm not getting the quantity or size of portions I've had in the past at the SE Belmont location. Maybe the all the stores have changed, and I'm just late to the party. My SW green chili bowl is always good, and I had extra green chili added - 1/2 of which was green chili peels (and this New Mexico transfer knows you just don't eat the green chili peels), so I felt a bit bummed I paid extra price for 1/4 cup of green chili peels that really aren't edible. Otherwise, the staff is always friendly, the place is always clean, and food comes out pretty much within 5-10 minutes of ordering. read more

The reason for the two star is not only is the food some times good then other times not , It seems like with the covid they won't let you order at counter , interesting enough you can't get near the counter and masks are being worn. So was told order online. Well when you order online they USE your info and sell to THIRD parties Hmm. Only know cause I saw the opt out tab and was curious , and it's up to you to opt out which is not that easy as simply checking a box. Funny for a restaurant that is so Green to be selling your info to a third party. Find this stuff shady and not good business practice especially for a restaurant of this type and making me order online , they did not offer me to do phone order. This is a hip Little branch of this small chain of cafes with great healthy food. Busts of super heroes were on one wall and plastic dinosaurs were available for those who like to play with such. There are mostly bowls of veggies, grains and meat, plus burritos and beer and wine.
