First afternoon in BA we passed by this cafe and decided to stop in. It was a hot summer afternoon so we both went with an iced flat white, which (from my limited understanding of their Spanish) was that it was like an iced coffee with an extra shot of espresso. The owner is lovely and the employees as well but the Compos Altos Brazil coffee was so bitter that I left it for the next occupant of my Airbnb. I went to nearby Starbucks and bought Colombia. Nice owners who speak English. Super cute but small cafe with lots of personality. Skip the iced mochaccino (I think they use Nesquick?) and arepas. Yet another cafe that gives me neighborhood envy. Lattente was one of the first in Buenos Aires's "good coffee" wave, coming long before any of the more recent shops that have popped up in P. Soho and Hollywood and beyond. That being said, the first and second time I went I was greeted by a closed door (my fault) and never actually made it back. Almost 2 years after my first go-around I finally stopped in on Sunday. Let's just say this was long, long over due. Coffee is far and away the star of this comfy shop. Get your favorite (latte? capp? pour over? etc.?) and enjoy just how great your cup of caffeine tastes. The owners have even chosen to forgo wifi in their stark protest to the art of the drink. In other words, bring a book and settle in. You're mind and body will thank you for the much needed rest. My cappuccino was stellar and the little pistachio cookie was the perfect companion. The smell of banana cake was intoxicating. If you head here on a Sunday you'll also be surprised to find some of the best (only) bagels in the city right outdoor (11:30am and only on Sunday brought to you by Sheikob's Bagels). Lattente is the almost-perfect place for that occasional time when you've been enjoying Buenos Aires, but what you really need is a good New York City cafe with genuinely good coffee. To hit all the bullet points: (1) They DON'T have wifi (which is rare for BA). (2) They DO have good coffee (which is even more rare for BA). (3) They DO have free water (!!! you basically won't find that anywhere else). (4) They DO have a great environment for cranking out a few hours of good, focused work. It's quite tough to find good tasting coffee in BA, so when I heard about Lattente I got pretty excited. The coffee here is pretty decent - nothing mind blowing. They source high-quality beans from Colombia, which certainly are several notches above the standard-issue variety found in most BA coffee shops. It has a pleasant enough interior, although the chairs are a tad uncomfortable and, as many have noted, they have no wifi. So why the bad rating? Simple. Many of the staff are rude, stuck up, and pretentious. Not once but twice, I asked for some milk for my Americano, and I was treated like I was asking for something crazy. Each time they made such a big commotion about it, explaining how it's going to ruin their perfect coffee and that it's totally "against the rules". Each time, I was told the only way they'd allow it is if I add the milk myself. I have no problem adding milk myself - but I could do without the snarky attitude! read more

I do not give out 5 stars willy-nilly. Truly, the best coffee i've ever had. I don't mean it's the best in the neighborhood, though that is beyond certain. I mean it's the best i've ever had anywhere, on 3 continents, in 16 countries, ever. The fact is, this place makes a mean cafe con leche. That's not an accident and it's probably not easy or more places would do it just as well. I realize there are those under the misconception that taste is subjective. It is not. Exposure leads to refinement of opinion. What many consider taste/subjective is actually preference. I prefer smoother coffees over more acidic varieties. That's my preference and preference is subjective. If you'd like to argue about philosophy i'll be at LattenTe at some point for the next few days. I speak fluent middle finger and am happy to communicate purely through gesture. Seriously, enjoy the coffee. Tell your friends. read more

I will preface this first by saying if you are looking for an argentine coffee or experience this is not the right place for you. Now with that said if you are looking for a good, cool cafe that would be comparable to something you would find in Europe or the US, then you have found a place you would like. The cafe itself is relatively small with a few long tables - the cafe feels very new age/modern and play good music. All the people hanging out there appeared to be either European or American. The coffee itself was good - I had an espresso (Italian kind not argie) and my novia had a macchiato - as well as sharing a slice of banana bread. Not trying to sound snobbish but I am very surprised by all the he buzz around this place. Don't get me wrong but good beans are just a part of equation in the secret formula of excellent milk bases espresso drinks. The second part of success is critical : the perfect milk temperature. Yes, cold milk is better for milk art but someone need to drink it after you put cute heart on top of the cappuccino. The temperature of cappuccino served at this place is at 37C-40C. Yes, not the perfect 60C-70C but cold barely body 37C temperature. In fact they have no desire to make a good cappuccino even on request. Its hard to pin down the vibe of the place since it changes so much depending on the time of day and even mood of the owners. During busy hours, the bustle will have a mix of Spanish and English and I've noticed many English speakers practice their Spanish with locals and vice versa. This is BA's hipster coffee joint, tucked in a picturesque block of Palermo with local cooks/bakers on bikes setting up shop right outside the door to sell things like cannolis or bagels with lox and cream cheese. The menu is standard good cafe, mostly espresso drinks with no flavorings, ranging from espresso to lattes and all in between, think cafe macchiato, cappuccino, although no cortado surprisingly. However, their cafe macchiato is a little milkier than typical; it's kind of like a cortado. Anyway, the coffee is excellent and the setting classic Palermo (especially when you sit at one of the street-side tables). I loved this place and went back a few times during my visit. read more
