Tacos and burritos in Fall River! I started to notice this restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Let's be frank: it gets a zero for ambiance. But I was intrigued to see tacos and burritos on the outdoor placard, so I stopped in for a take-out lunch. I didn't try the tacos, seeing as the menu offers a "giant burrito," and that is what I ordered. The restaurant seems to be Honduran (hence the explanation of tacos and burritos as being "Mexicanos"), but I was really interested in seeing if Fall River could support a taco/burrito menu so close to the Fall River S. Main Street world of hot dogs and Portuguese food.
The burrito was indeed giant, and I was quite pleased. Although it the meat was of the mystery variety, the burrito was tasty, fresh, nicely seasoned and, very importantly, not at all salty. (Overly salty food has been my experience with other Caribbean restaurants.) At its best, the burrito really tasted homemade, as if I'd stepped into the family kitchen. At it's worst, I would have preferred fresher (or, at least more distinguishable) bits of meat.
I also ordered a milk/sugar/fruit concoction as a beverage. This was not on the menu, but was handwritten on the exterior window. A very nice drink--a bit like a shake.
The staff seemed to have very little command of English, and this could be what will eventually hold this restaurant back from the mainstream in Fall River. Were they to place a big sign in front that said TACOS BURRITOS etc., I think that this place could attract a good clientele. But my guess is that the owners are mostly interested in the local Latino community.
Nevertheless, don't let the ambiance scare you off. Give it a try! read more
