I've been visiting Late's for many decades. It's the classic family-run American diner. My Dad and I stopped in today for a perch lunch plate; it was just as I remembered. Nostalgic.

    Double burger with bacon

Went during lunch on a Friday. Ordered 4 things. One malt, an order of onion rings, an order of cheese curds and a double bacon burger. The malt was good. The nothings were good and the curds were good. The only things were that the portions for the price were small on the rings and curds. The malt was a good price no complaints there. The burger I ordered I said the works with bacon and when I got it, it had no bacon and no works. Sent it back for the bacon at least. The bun style did not really complement the beef patty cause it didn't hold the burger together at all. Might not be back unless I get a malt only.

I like the name. I like the people that work there. I like the people that eat there. I like the food. I like the location. I like the menu. It's clean with ample parking. And I LOVE the MALTS!

Great breakfast, friendly staff. Just the kind of small town diner that knows how to make good home cooking. Loved every bite!

Overpriced greasy spoon in my opinion. Don't get me wrong the burgers and cheese curds were ok but not worth the $40 they charged us.

My husband I drive past this place nearly everyday and always say "we should try that place"…read more We'll tonight was the night. We arrived around 4:30 and the place was already busy. We were able to find a table right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. Upon reviewing the specials and menu, I decided on the shrimp basket. The dinner comes with choice of soup or salad, and choice of potato. I chose the clam chowder and fries. My clam chowder came out fairly quick, and I was disappointed. It was wayered down and flavorless. I added some salt, pepper and a couple toasted bread chunks and it made it a little better. A short time later my shrimp plate came out, the breading on the shrimp was crispy and seasoned well. The fries were hot and crispy. The shrimp dinner was the redeeming grace from the disappointment of the clam chowder. The dining room is small, and dimly lit, with the tables close together. Overall it was a good experience, and another trip may be a possibility in the future.

I ordered the liver and onions and potato salad and coleslaw as my sides. The meal came out pretty quick for as busy as they were. The coleslaw was a sweet version. It had a lot of liquid in it. I would have liked a little less liquid. The potato salad was very good. It had celery and onions in it. The potatoes were firm, not mushy. The liver was tender and moist topped with perfectly caramelized onions and extra crispy bacon. This is a dish I would order again for sure. The service was good and cost reasonable. I'm glad I came in tonight.

We had the cheese curds for the appetizer and my husband had the pork tenderloin and I had the crusted chicken. All of our food was absolutely delicious- served hot, and perfectly seasoned. My husband commented that it tasted like a chef was in the kitchen. Think metropolitan, high-end restaurant quality food! Prices are very reasonable for the quantity and quality. The ambience is charming yet fresh and modern. Very clean. I would suggest to dress resort casual or nicer for an evening meal. The service was attentive and welcoming. There is room for a large group. Outside seating is available, but I wouldn't recommend because it is near a busy traffic light which would detract from the experience. Don't hesitate to try the Courthouse Pub for a delicious, memorable meal.

The Fat Seagull ended up being my choice because of interesting sounding items on the menu. The to go order consisted of a perch sandwich, a double cheeseburger, mozzarella sticks, and taco egg rolls. The mozzarella sticks are the same kind you can get from Arby's or the hot deli area of Walmart. Yes they are mozzarella sticks and can maybe satisfy a craving if needed, but they're not as good as Italian breaded for wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks. I'm not usually a big fan of charbroiled burgers and I could tell the meat was out of a frozen box of patties, but it was a solid tasting burger. It didn't come with a side, which for the price I assumed was the case ($7.50 as of 2/3/2025). That might be the most I would pay for it, but would consider getting it again. Like the burger, the perch sandwich did not come with a side, so $10 for a single butterfly of perch on a roll was close to my wallet's limit, but that was a tasty piece of fish. I don't find myself in Manitowoc often, but if I did I'd be intrigued by their double perch plate on Fridays given the quality of the the perch in this sandwich. The star of the meal was the taco egg rolls. The size of a typical veggie spring roll and in the same crispy wrapper, these egg rolls come in an order of three or six and I wish I had ordered six instead of three. The taco meat had an amazing kick to it and there was enough cheese inside to be noticeable yet not take away from the meat. I didn't end up using the sour cream or nacho cheese they provided because I wanted to savor the flavor of the egg roll itself, but I appreciate having both options to dip them in.

This place is advertised as gastropub food, which is intended and designed to be quick food to make. Nothing you couldn't make at home with minimal effort. Tasted greasy. Even if it was good, I couldn't have appreciated it because the wait was SO long I was starving and dizzy from low blood sugar by the time it arrived. Unacceptable.
