Never even knew this place was here

How come no one has reviewed this little place yet? We stopped in last night about 6 or so, was waiting for the dog to be groomed. We drop our little guy off on a regular basis and our groomer is out here in North plains. I have been to Rogue next door many times but had no idea this place even existed! I spied it and immediately wanted to give it a try. I was nervous it might be a cash only type of place but rest assured it isn't. This looks like a locals hang out and everyone already has a stool staked out. We sat at a table, had a couple of drinks and left. I would normally have loved staying at a place like this for awhile but I wanted to get some food. There was not a menu but the bartender could tell us everything that was available by memory. Great little stop and would stop by again.

The Last Waterin Hole is a little gem and loved by locals. Prices are cheap and drinks are poured long. They have lunch specials, including sandwiches. Taco tuesdays are worth visiting for. If you are here during the holidays try Lyn's homemade hot toddy. It is the best bar none-no premade mix here. It is a great place for parties St Patrick's Day, Halloween or 4th of July it is a fun place to go. Air conditioning works in the summer time. You will always find friendly staff and patrons. I have attended the annual auction the owner arranges for the local Meals on Wheels. Folks here really are about the community. It is a real bar and no kids are allowed. Located in a historic building (the first bank) it is a little place. It is also called the "Lower" or the First Waterin Hole if you are coming from the east (-take a closer look at the white sign and window in the photo.)

Stopped by Helvetia Tavern and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the jumbo bacon burger…read morewith fries and everything was on point. The burger was huge, perfectly cooked, and loaded with flavor, the bacon really set it off. Fries were crispy and exactly what you want on the side. I sat outside, which made the whole experience even better. Super relaxed atmosphere, great spot to just hang out and enjoy a solid meal. Honestly, loved everything about it. Definitely coming back.

A smaller setting than I expected from a legend, this cozy tavern offers a comfort that can be felt as soon as you enter and see about 10 tables packed in plus the bar and its stools. Worn and aged wood tables, wood walls plus the bar all show the history and patina of good times. The menu is limited but covers meat, greens and beverage perfectly. I enjoyed a pint of cold Drop Top, and a Jumbo hamburger sided with oodles of tasty onion rings which was in itself a belly buster meal! Certainly, more than I could ever expect to consume in a single sitting. Our server was friendly and attentive. All in all, a solid 4-star experience! This initial visit would have received a 5-star review from me if the burger patty was handmade rather than the Whopper like machine pressed fast food puck.

The place was noisy & almost full of diners, dancers, wanna be dancers & looky loos. Definitely busy, but booths & tall tables with tall seats available. We wandered upstairs, which included round tables & chairs, a pool table & other game platform. Thinking we may not get food service too soon up there, we went downstairs & chose a booth. We both ordered the Coulotte/Top Sirloin meal with steamed broccoli & "the works " baked potato. My steak was cooked as ordered (medium rare), but too dark with char on the surface for my liking. When mentioning the situation to our server, she said that was the usual level of char but offered a couple of options for me to choose from for resolution. The broccoli was steamed properly & the "loaded" baked potato was great! Overall, our meals were very good & the wait staff also did an awesome job as well!!

Then he talked me into getting something else to go with the salad. He got a quesadilla, he didn't really like it. He ate half, he took the other half home, maybe to dress it up more? Anyways, I got the Beyond Burger and had them veganize it..no mayo or cheese. I didn't realize there would be mushrooms, so that was a nice surprise. The waiter knew exactly what I meant, and he checked on us frequently. I got an iced tea and it was crisp and clear the way I like it. All the chairs were padded, not just the booths. Which is important to me. After I finished my burger, I was too full to eat my salad. I took my half home, but later when I was going to eat it, it was soggy. I have fond memories of dancing to live music. I hope I can attend when there's live music again!
