I had RLE surgery and Dr. Dorey was fantastic! The optometrist looked at me following the surgery and said the lenses were bang on! Perfectly placed! I was asked (in person) and called (afterward) several times to update my review, so here is it: If you're thinking about using LASIK MD - I would ask to speak directly with the downtown location. DO NOT waste your time speaking to the individuals working in the 'call centers' (they are ones who call with vision questions and verify your appointment). As soon as I posted my original review: "Untrained staff who are unable to answer basic questions or provide solutions. Super disappointing since I had heard good things before experiencing their non-existence customer service first hand." I had a phone call within 3 hours, where I had been waiting 4 days for an answer to a simple question. I ended up visiting LASIK MD in City Centre on December 3rd, 2019. I personally dealt with Lindsey, Jesse, Victoria & Phyllis, all of which were friendly, helped explained the process and were educated to answer the questions I had. I do feel the communication is a bit slow and believe the only reason I received a call back was because of the 1-Star negative review but I will be following through with the surgery in 2020 and will update my review at that time when I've used their services. read more

Lasik! I took the plunge and had the surgery over the weekend, and I have quite a bit to say about it! I did a lot of "interviewing" before booking my consultation with friends who have been though the experience. I wanted to know if the discomfort would be worth the lasting benefits. Everyone I talked to raved about the experience saying it was "nothing" and that I would wish I'd done it sooner. The consultation went well- they seemed professional and competent. One concern I had was that everyone seemed to have to repeat the same information so often that many staff talked in a "script-like" way, rattling off instructions or information very quickly. I really appreciate being well informed for something as serious as a surgery, so I had to ask a lot of questions and tell a lot of people to slow down. The day of surgery went pretty well. The procedure, however, was a lot more difficult than I had anticipated, and I was very scared and uncomfortable. None of my interviewing had prepared me for it. However, the doctor and the individuals assisting him were so kind and supportive, and they got me through it. The recovery day was pretty easy to start with, then the pain ramped up dorm a few hours, and a week later my eyes are doing great and I can see so well! Just finishing up my third and last visit to Lasik MD. Last April I had my initial surgery done. Three weeks ago I came in for an enhancement, which I need for both eyes, but,they can only do one at a time. They did my left eye then and right will be done right away. Every time a patient comes in, you aee multiple people a day. I have never once had a bad experience with anyone here. They really go above and beyond with their customer service. Great results but a huge hassle! Constant follow ups even though they originally tell you 2-3times. Every time I call to to find out when I get a different story. I asked for a letter indicating the dates I attended for tax purposes and they want me to pay them $20. I paid over 3grand for my surgery and they have the nerve to charge for a simple letter. Totally recommended! I was really hesitant about getting laser eye surgery for my extreme near-sightedness (-5.75 and -7.25) but it was getting to the point where I just couldn't wear contact lenses anymore, nor did I want to wear glasses. I did a lot of research and LASIK MD was having a promotion on financing so I went for a free consultation. The location in City Centre is really nice - clean and modern, lovely little waiting area with lots of couches and televisions usually playing a nature documentary (so easy on the eyes!). They do a very thorough examination of your eyes with different pieces of equipment. In the end, I was deemed a suitable candidate for a particular type of surgery (oh yes, there are different kinds, and they will go over that with you), so I went ahead with the procedure. All staff members are friendly, soothing, professional, and competent. My surgery went off without a hitch - I wasn't nervous about it and even asked for them to give me a play-by-play of what they were doing, which they kindly obliged and honestly, I think would comfort most people who are nervous. I did have a tiny bit of halo effect and dry eyes, which is normal, and both went away within a month after the surgery. Four years later my vision is still 20/20, and it's the most amazing thing to wake up and be able to see clearly. The initial cost was a lot of me but since they had the zero-interest promotion, I just paid off the loan with that year's tax refund. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get rid of near or far sightedness! (They advised me I would likely still need reading glasses as I age because this procedure doesn't fix that - but that's totally fine with me!) read more

Tired of your glasses? Then you're looking at the right place. Lasik MD provided both myself and my ex-girlfriend with vision correction about 2 years ago. Both of us couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The surgery itself was very short and painless. Within a day our vision had nearly fully returned to a state way better than it previously was. All of the staff were very kind and answered any questions we had at any point in time. Everyone always asks how much it costs, but that is entirely dependent on which type of surgery you need. I will say that it was quite expensive but I truly believe it was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I recommend LASIK to anyone, even if it's not this specific clinic. After 21 years of glasses and contacts, I have 20-20 vision! I'd strongly recommend Lasik to anyone who's had to face the complications of contacts, dry eyes, bringing your glasses as back-up, and all of the other annoying things those with less-than-perfect vision have to deal with. The worst part about the whole surgery day is having to wait 4-5 hours for the 3 minute surgery. But it's entirely worth it, because your vision will begin to clear the next day. The staff and surgery team were all lovely, everyone was very helpful and friendly, and you can tell that they all enjoy their jobs. I went in for a check up so I can upkeep my warranty and because of medical reasons I cannot wear a face mask and they did not know how to handle the situation and made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. They basically didnt want to help me out and said no mask no appointment, which is discrimination and against the Alberta human rights act. I think the staff needs to be trained on how to handle people who may be exempt from masks and realize that they cant discriminate like that as they are a business who serves the public. read more

Received phone call 5 days before appointment asking me to go get an eye exam. Once at my appointment I Spent 2 hours doing eye exams before being notified I would have to come back at a later date. I went there for a free assessment for Laser on Dec 2015. Environment is nice and cosy, you feel comfortable. There is coffee and biscuits available... Tests may take a while, but they are okay. After these tests, you'll meet a doctor that will tell you the results and explain the procedure. The weird thing is that after that assessment, I went to 2 more. At Lasik MD they told me I was a good candidate, another centre told me I was "not" and the third one told me I was a possible candidate but only for PRK and in the end they would not recommend unless I was in the army or high level sports. When I asked explanation to the third place, they told me that passable risks and safety standards change according to the place you visit... So my advise is always double check elsewhere, if they all say you are good to go, then you take your choice. read more

This has been the absolute worst decision of my life! Money aside, my vision and eye health have been tremendously affected. Going in, I only had problems with my right eye as I felt my left was fine. They had me convinced that I needed both done. Well, my right eye is slightly better after the surgery while my left is constantly blurry and dry. Their recommendation for this, use eye drops 3+ times a day. I had surgery over 14 months ago. I've had my one year check up this morning. They had advised me at my last appointment to book a few months in advance. I had called in early December and they were already booked till the end of February. But they had a clinic in Oliver square for post op and consultations which was able to take me earlier. I much preferred this to having to go downtown and pay for parking. They did a quick check of my prescription and then went in for an exam. Happily they said I have better than 20/20 and everything looks healthy. To cover my warranty I have to go back every 2 years and have them check their work. They also recommend to keep going to an optometrist in between to check my overall eye health of course. So my initial review I still stand by when it comes to the surgery itself. I highly recommend getting the tear duct plugs. They have helped so much with the dry eye. Also the lifetime warranty I'd recommend. The time goes by so fast. I still have some light sensitivity. Night driving is fine but still get some glares, more noticeable on the highway when it's busy and not so much in town. The dry eye is tough in the winter. I use drops first thing in the morning, at night before bed and a few times in the day. I stopped getting the ocular headaches after a couple weeks post surgery. But the pros I've enjoyed so much! From no fogged up glasses in the cold to wearing sunglasses whenever I want. read more

I got my cross linking procedure done at LASIK MD. They charge me same as other locations, but they didn't provide same services as other locations. Other locations covers prescription check up withing the surgery fees. As my eye sight fluctuates after the cross linking surgery, my prescription will keep changing for a year or so. As this location does not cover prescription check up within the surgery fees, I need to go to other optometrist and pay full charges for eye exams there. It will be quite few visits to optometrists, which I need to pay from my pocket on top of cross linking procedure fees. During LASIK MD consultation visit, they only check whether my healing is in progress or not. They didn't disclose this initially while discussing what's included in the surgery fees. I feel like they rip me off. There is no "zero" star, or I would have picked that. read more

I had laser eye surgery here about three years ago and I really could not be happier with the results. I don't remember the exact cost, but I believe it was about $2500. I chose the most expensive package option so I am covered for eye exams and any touch up surgeries needed in the future if my eye sight changes again. There are some cheaper options available also. The clinic was very comfortable and well organized, and all the staff I saw were very friendly and professional. The actual eye surgery was completely painless and only took a few minutes. In all honesty, going to the dentist is more uncomfortable than the surgery was here. My recovery time was very quick too, I only took one day off work and my vision was perfect by the next day. I am 6 months post LASIK surgery and don't have one single regret except that I didn't do it sooner!! It was last April, I was traveling in Turkey and had my contacts in and they were bugging me so I had to pull out my eye drops and make sure I had my glasses in my bag as a back up. Right then I vowed that when I got home I would look into LASIK. I booked an online appointment for a free consult in July. I went on one of my days off from work and got to choose the time! It was a very thorough consult with the eye exams, tests, meeting with the opthomologist and even going over financial aid. I decided to wait until summer was over as I already had a lot going on in my life and needed to make arrangements. Well Sept 10th came and after 17 years of wearing glasses/contacts it was all finally going to be over! My vision was a -6.5 in both eyes.. So terrible! I went in for 8am, brought snacks & waited very comfortably on the couches. I went through more eye exams to make sure nothing changed and then just waited! Just after 10:30 it was my turn! I met with the surgeon and he explained everything. I got my eye drops and I headed in the surgical suite. 11 minutes later I was out and in recovery!! There was no pain, only minor pressure discomfort for less than a minute. I waited an hour in recovery and had my first set of drops placed for me then got my instructions for the rest of the day and next day and booked my recheck for the next day! LASIK MD has incredible staff who are all so kind and caring and very knowledgeable. The overall experience I had was amazing. I very highly recommend this business and procedure to everyone I know!! I was given a lifetime guarantee with my surgery. Within 2 years my left eye reverted back to pre-surgery condition. I revisited the clinic and the girl who saw me told me I was so lucky I ended up with Mono Vision without having to pay for it. She then said that 'of course, they would never actually RECOMMEND surgery'. I left it for awhile to see if the eye stabilized, and it continues to decline. My left eye vision is far worse than pre surgery now. I went in again January 2021, and the guy who checked my eyes told me the deterioration is definitely from the surgery and it is imperative they fix it - as they can't just leave it like this (as if I'm not aware of that!). The plan was to have it checked every 30 days for 3 months to determine stability, then develope a course of treatment. Since then they suddenly have no available appointments 'due to COVID'. When I was a paying customer- which I have had to pay for every one of these follow up appointments - I had my choice of appointment dates. Now that they have to honour their guarantee, COVID becomes an issue they can't work around. read more

Worst LASIK clinic... There is nothing lower than 1 star otherwise I would rate that. I went there in Dec 2015 and was told to wait for one more year and I went again in Jan 2017 and after all tests was told to wait for surgeon call to know about candidacy. I waited until given waiting time then I called them and again was told to wait for a call. After my second attempt they said to wait for next day to get a call and after that I called 3rd time and my results were still pending. No one surgeon review it so LASIK MD doesn't need any business anymore as they already made good money. Worst clinic for customer service. Most surprising thing is that one of there affiliated optometrist Dr Sharma told me that I am a candidate for LASIK and he gave me quote of $3400 and here LASIK MD itself have no answer for my candidacy.. I just had enhancement surgery on my right eye. My original surgery was 11 years ago. I started wearing glasses again about 1.5 years ago so decided it was time to try again as I have the lifetime plan. I still have not decided if the enhancement was a good idea or not as my eyes are still adjusting (they only do one eye at a time the second time!). My main concern this time around has been the constant lack of communication between the office staff regarding my surgery confirmation. After my final pre-op consult, I was told I would receive a call within a week to confirm the surgeon's approval...no call came. I had at call myself twice, both times was told they would call back before a certain time (which did not happen).. Finally after I caalled a third call , i received confirmation. Again the day before surgery, they left a message to confirm the time on my voicemail and said they would e-mail the instructions for surgery day...no e-mail was ever sent. Luckily I phoned to check before they closed for the day. I'm not sure if their lack of communication was due to the fact that they already had my money...? I did bring up my concerns following surgery and was told that someone would call me to discuss my concerns. Not surprisingly...no body has called. On the plus side, Dr. Riyaz was excellent. Is it possible to give zero stars??? Stay away! I had an appointment today with LASIK MD. It was a 2-3 hour consultation. I asked the receptionist when I booked whether I could bring my 13 month old with me if my mother was there to watch him and she said yes. My mother took time off from her busy work day to come with me to the apt, to watch my son while I was examined. The receptionists were very friendly to my son and he smiled and said hi to others in the waiting room. He was vocal yes, but he was laughing and was very well behaved. I brought small cars for him to play with and he spent most of his time driving his cars on the carpet. No one on the waiting room was glaring or rolling their eyes. Everyone smiled back. He didn't make any messes or have any tantrums. The receptionist did trip over him as she didn't see him playing and they both startled each other but no one was hurt. I went into two of the rooms already and we had been in the LASIK MD business for over two hours. There was just one more person I needed to see to be done the appointment, as I had already had the surgery approved and my eyes dilated and poked. Two hours had gone by and to be honest both my mother and I were extremely impressed with my son's behaviour and credited it to the long nap he had earlier. My mother went to the washroom while I waited in the waiting room with my son for the last part of the apt. He fussed a little when she left so I picked him up and he stopped. It was by no means a melt down. A woman came out of a room with a fury. She told me we needed to leave immediately as my son was being nothing but disruptive. I asked her twice to make sure I was hearing correctly. She said that my son had to leave the whole establishment. She said that LASIK MD does not allow children in their waiting rooms. I said we have been here for over two hours. She walked past my son several times. I asked the receptionist if children were allowed. She did not comment to my points. She did say that his laughter was echoing and a major distraction to her.My mother returned shocked that we had to leave. We asked why we had been told after 2 hours instead of at the beginning. I told her I would spend my money elsewhere as there are several other laser eye surgery places we can go to. I was calm and matter of fact, most likely because I was so shocked. She however was not calm and it seemed as if my son's fussing had set off a buildup of emotion in her. I asked her for her name and title and she said her name was Stacey Tron, Assistant Director. I will be calling tomorrow to make a complaint and will be sure to update the online community on how it will be handled. I am still in disbelief and would caution anyone against LASIK MD, especially if they are a parent, grandparent or a supporter of children. Who doesn't like the sound of a toddler laughing? It is awful to think the sound of joy can be so revolting to someone. It was an awful experience but the bottom line is it says way more about her own state, then it does about my son's. It also says a lot about the quality of those employed by LASIK MD. I would not feel comfortable with one of their doctors if they stand by Ms. Stacey Tron's conduct today. I will be getting the surgery elsewhere. Hi just an update! After I posted my experience in the internet I got a phone call from Mr Karas, the director of Lasik MD Edmonton and he apologized for what happened to my family yesterday and he said they do allow children, he believes the situation should have been handled differently. He is following up with both his staff and the higher ups to better train and educate for the future. He said there were better options for us (ie a different room). Other than what had happened. I am grateful that he followed up with me and figured I should post the follow up here. I am still not comfortable returning however and do have a different consultation booked. read more

You can tell when people are passionate about what they do for their job, and I truly had that sense at Lasik MD. They staff were knowledgeable and kind with the amount of questions I had. They walked me through the process and made me feel extremely comfortable. Although I had some nerves going into my procedure, the Surgeon and his staff made my fears just disappear! They have given me the ability see, which in all honestly is amazing. I still reach for my glasses every morning, and I almost feel guilty not wearing them anymore! I was referred to LasikMD by my sister who had the procedure done about eight years ago. The day when I check in, I feel welcome with the front desk. Then I am waiting in the clinic just for a little while. Someone call me checking my eyes and go through the details with me in the surgery and makes me so calm. The time I stay in the clinic for my surgery just few hours. It's fast and not a long day for me. During the surgery, Dr. Dorey explain to me what is Monovision and how to take care of my eyes after surgery. He makes me so calm and understands everything. Phyllis and Rebecca make me so comfort and tell me everything what I have to do. After surgery. Natalie come to me to explain everything to me. She is very nice and makes me feel so comfort. Then when I go to see the eye care professional "Jessica", she is very knowledgeble and tell me again how to take care my eyes. WOW! As someone who has been dependant on glasses her entire life, never worn contacts either, the thought of laser eye surgery has always seemed quite daunting. I had a pre op visit with Lasik MD back in August 2014 and had a wonderful experience with the staff and even booked a surgery appointment for December. However, my nerves got the best of me and I cancelled my surgery. I took a deep breath, booked another appointment and yesterday (March 27,2015!) I finally did it! I had the most amazing experience with every single person at Lasik MD in Edmonton. From the receptionist to each person who scanned my eyes and did different tests to the surgeon and all of the comforting staff in the operating room, they were all encouraging and so excited for me and my big day! Even the other patients in the clinic were all happy and excited, it was such a fun, positive experience for me that i had initially been very hesitant to do. It has only been a day but I was so impressed with the friendly, professional and compassionate staff that I had to give them a shout out! I have had no issues with my eyes, just the slight blurriness on the first day that was to be expected (it has already become clearer since yesterday, though!) My experience at LasikMD was amazing! I had Lasik done on the weekend and I could not be any happier with the results. I learned that I was a candidate at my consultation for either Microkeratome or an All laser Procedure. I was given these two options and they had me choose a procedure I was comfortable in doing. I was not forced to do a certain procedure at all but instead they gave me more information about the differences between the procedures. I was definitely given enough time to come to a decision and did not feel rushed to do the surgery. All of the staff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable of the Lasik procedure. Moreover, I loved how my experience was personal and felt like they attended to my questions and needs. Surgery day was a breeze and most importantly the procedure itself was painless and easy. My script was around a -4.00 with a -1.00 astigmatism. I was drawn to Lasik MD because of glowing reviews from my Sister a year ago and their very flexible surgery schedule. They have surgeries every week! I can honestly say, it was one of the best decisions of my life. I decided to go with the Advance Custom procedure with Dr. Dorey, he was very kind was amazingly skilled. I called Lasik MD wanting to know if I was a candidate for Lasik as I have had PRK in the past. The guy on the phone insisted I needed an appointment to find out, so I spent some time answering questions over the phone and setting up an appointment. Next, I get an e-mail with questions to fill out to "save time" ahead of the appointment. Today I go in for my appointment, and have 2 forms to fill out and am asked all the same questions again. Then I sit there for 25 minutes without acknowledgment. I ask the receptionist to check how much longer it will be. Manager comes over 5 minutes later apologizing, they are busy because they have surgeries. I ask why they make appointments on days they have surgery. He apologizes and says it will be another 5-10 minutes. it isn't. In all, I wasted 41 minutes sitting there plus the original time on the phone and filling out online forms. Had a great experience at Lasik MD, after almost 30 years of being 'legally blind' and astigmatism, I can SEE!! 20-20 VISION! I've recently been in for an enhancement on my lasik vision correction that was originally done 4 years ago, today I went in for my 1 week check up, and I was in an out of there in about 10 minutes though the "Lounge" waiting area was packed (it's Friday so its surgery day). I can't even find the right words to express how happy I am that I got this surgery!!! I am just sorry I didn't get it sooner. Having 20-20 vision after 20 years of glasses and contacts. I don't even want to think about how much money and stress I spent on those things. This procedure had almost immediate results. The next morning I was 20-20. I haven't even had the dry, sand feeling that I heard about! The day of surgery my eyes were on the dry side (I blame allergies) so I had to sit around for quite awhile and apply drops and drink a ton of water to hydrate my eyes. But after that it went very quickly. I will agree with many people on one thing, the feeling when you are getting the procedure done isn't how I understood when it was being explained. There was more pressure than I expected, but it wasn't unbearable... the hardest part for me, was to 'look straight at the blinking light' when the lens of your eye has been cut, everything is blurry. I found this very difficult. But it was over before I knew it and I sat in the dark corner, got my drops and waited for my husband. I slept from when I got home (around 4) to the next morning at 6am. I missed so many drops, but I know that keeping your eyes closed is good too. I went to my follow up appointment and I was 20-20 with a little dryness in one eye. Imagine my excitement when I found out I would be a great candidate for lasik, but then when surgery day came, the fear and anxiety set in. I have to share with you all my incredible experience at LasikMD. From my free consultation to minutes before the OR, my experience with all the pre op stations was exceptional. I felt very well taken care of every step of the way. Furthermore, I was quoted a wait time of 4-5 hours on surgery day,  so I planned ahead and brought a book with me,  but to my surprise I had only made it through one page the entire time and had to call my ride to pick me up early. The eye care professionals, surgical councillors and surgeon had educated me, guided me through every step and performed the surgery with professionalism and proficiency, I felt like a VIP! After nearly a year post-op, I feel I am ready to write a review. Surgery at Lasik MD was simply the worst experience of my life. If you are considering laser vision correction, ask your optometrist or ophthalmologist for a recommendation - they will not recommend this clinic. The professionals would never send their patient to Lasik MD, which I unfortunately didn't find out until later. The business model of this franchise means that patients are pumped through like cattle at an abattoir. You never see the same "technician" twice, so you will not receive any continuity of care. You will meet the surgeon for 5 minutes right before surgery and never see him again. All the legal disclaimers are provided in writing, including possible negative outcomes from surgery. Unfortunately, every single employee I met at this clinic waved off my concerns with a "Pffft, that never happens" kind of attitude. I am left with damaged vision, debilitating dry eye, and am unemployable. When you are told that you might experience "a bit of dry eye", it means that your eyes could be so dry and irritated that you would gladly gouge them out to have relief. I have also found it impossible to get another ophthalmologist to see me, for fear of legal repercussions. And Lasik MD has threatened to sue me if I tell my story, hence the false name on here. I wish I were exaggerating, I am not. I am truly happy for the patients who have had a good outcome. But when things go wrong here, they go horribly wrong, and there is nowhere to turn. Been wearing glasses since i was in grade 4, and I've been through so many pairs of glasses since then and my vision always got worse and worse and i became so reliable with them. Then i started doing more physical activity and it got harder and harder to continue to wear my glasses because i never wore contact lenses, half the time when i would playing my soccer games i wouldn't even know where i was going or who was coming towards me or if i even shot the ball in the net. All in all it became very tiresome to be wearing my glasses for everything and I'm so glad that i went through this procedure.. The staff made me feel so safe and took good care of me and walked me through the whole procedure and was talking to me and making me laugh. The stress ball and Sarah's hand became my best friend, although my bad for almost crushing your hand. Thank you liberty and Phyllis & Hanzel for the era support. Dr.Kassiri was amazing he was very personable and knowledgable as well as very professional, he made me laugh and made it very easy to follow his voice when explaining what he was doing which made it very easy for me and more calmed. I had corrective surgery a year ago. It was the worst decision ever! My eyes always burn and water, I see terrible halos, my head aches constantly, the technician said I went from near sighted to better than 20/20 to far sighted. I've been emailing back and forth and going in for appointments for the last year and nothing is being done to correct it. The staff are pleasant, no complaints there, I am however, getting agitated about the run around regarding how and when this issue will be corrected. I have 3 children and its difficult to maintain a normal life with constant headaches and blurred vision, especially while I'm driving. I am a manager so I am on the computer for the better part of the day which does not help with the headaches. I would seriously research whether the benefits outweigh the potential of what could or could not happen prior to getting laser eye surgery. I truly wish I had not purchased the procedure and would give anything to not feel the constant burn on a daily basis and would much rather deal with glasses and contacts, as I had for over 20 years previously. read more
