I ordered an ajiaco, and was disappointed when I received it. The soup seemed to have been made with artificial chicken broth, and it had not been thickened by mashing the different types of potatoes. Instead they added the white and criolla potatoes in the soup like toppings. This leads me to believe they were not too familiar with how this soup is made. I've actually been to Colombia and the food here tastes just like you're in Medellin! They don't have their beer or liquor license yet so bring your own booze. It looks like this place gets pretty lit on weekends because they have a sound system and disco lights. I found out about Las Palmas by passing by since I was taking my dog to have her Christmas picture taken next door! I was so excited that I found another Colombian restaurant in the area since I'm from NY and my family is Colombian. I ordered 2 empanadas and a passion fruit juice to go and plan to return another day to eat in. The music and the vibe was very Colombian. The waitress that helped me, Maribel was very sweet! She explained that they have dancing and on Saturday nights, which is most popular but they also have Salsa dancing and Karaoke! As for the food, the empanadas were delicious! We went there to eat lunch since my Colombian girl didn't feel well and she wanted some Colombian food. If you are looking for my advise don't go here, go to El Portal Bakery on Trinity Mills Rd and Marsh Ln in Carrollton. Much better food!!! I was relying on my girl since I don't speak Spanish, and non of the waiters spoke English. English is not my first language either but I learned, it didn't stick on me with dirt. I had a question about a menu item and the water said she will come back since we are not ready to order. What? From who else should I ask my question if not from the waiter??? We quickly ordered 2 pandebonos while she was walking away. Took her about 7-8 minutes to come back with our drinks and 2 pandebonos as appetizer. The pastry was burned outside hallow inside and greasy from the butter. Took about another 10 minutes for her to come back to pick up the empty appetizer plate and we had to tell her to take the food order. 3 minutes later she came back to verify the food order. That means she hasn't placed it. 20 minutes in the DJ came to apologize for the food taking so long since they had only 1 cook. We saw 3 other tables order going out, they came after us, while ours still not ready. My girl had a soup, that they have to heat up only, and I had a meat with sauce on top, with rice and salad. Only my meat had to be prepared the rice, salad and sauce topping are pre made. Finally the food came out and the sides are missing for the soup. Our waiter goes back to the kitchen to grab it. 2 min later the other waiter realized we are not eating our food. She asked if all were good and we told her we were waiting for the rest. She went and brought it right away. I asked for water since my Lulo con Letche was gone long time ago. Got a bottle of water, that I placed on the side of the table indicating I won't drink that when I asked for a glass of water. Our water walks out in less than a minute with a different table's order. The food had no taste, the sauce on top of my meet was salty. Took 5 min to get the check as well, our water was in the bar organizing other money. They didn't even try to buy the pandebonos for us to make us feel a little better for the terrible service. The food is not cheap at all, nearly $50 for 2 soft drinks, 2 pastries a soup and a main dish. We paid for the food and left. The waiter said she tried hard and next time it will be better. We are not coming back, the food is overpriced and is not good, the juices barely have flavor, the arepas are hard, the beans have no flavor. Just ate at Las Palmas with my spouse . It serves Columbian food. Had the mixed combo fried rice (chicken, pork, beef, peas, carrots, onions) with some lettace and tomato on side of dish. Husband had the Mojarra Frita with fried potatoes & lettace/tomato on side of dish. He said his meal was ok but all the meat in my fried rice was dry, hard/dried out/chewy like it was precooked and microwaved. When we got the bill we were over charged because she added her own tip into the bill. Did not let us choose what tip to add. Her service was ok but she should not have decided what she should get. Also if you eat there an advertisement on table that says If your bill is over $50.00 you get a free Flan desert but when we were thru eating and my husband asked if we get the free desert since our bill was over that the waitress said we can only get the free flan if we are paying cash. Stale and felt as if they were Refried. Then for the main courses the meals that we ordered were the sancocho, which was an old and fat filled soup so fatty that you could see the fat separate and gather to the top. Then the bandeja paisa which was with what could be the worst beans I have ever tasted the odor smelled something out of a garbage. They had already gone bad and when we told the waiter she went back to taste it and came back to say that NO, that's the way they taste. At this point I was livid. Then came the watery tasteless,bland lentejas con carne asada... my kids love carne asada and they left it ALL!!!! Then let's talk price point... $84 total price! Not to mention we were the only ones there and the two more people that arrived after we're friends of the waitress. That should say a lot. Average Colombian restaurant in comparison to the many I've eaten during my time in South Florida. I had the empanada and bandeja paisa. The latter was nothing too special or extraordinary but it satisfied. It is mostly a place to come in with a group to dance and enjoy the Latin music as the ambiance definitely calls for that.
