They don't believe she is my kid so they refuse to serve her... TN issues license is not good enough for them. Now they informed us they refuse to sell us drinks because of a new TN law that states if a customer has a license that says "under 21" they can't serve them alcohol even if the date shows you are over 21. I have looked this up and is a complete lie. No such law. If you don't want to serve someone just say so. Don't lie to your customers face. read more

I have never understood Nashville's love affair with Las Palmas. I know several people who swear by this place (at any location) and I have always found myself disappointed in their bland, lackluster take on Mexican-style food. Shredded chicken simmered in tomato sauce with peppers and onions...and then put in every single chicken dish they serve. It would be different if it were flavorful or something, but it never is. The beans are bland. Their sauces are the worst offenders- echilada sauces that are bland, cheese sauce that is overly runny and bland, salsa that could be confused for ketchup...if ketchup had no salt. I'm being glib but only because there some really great options for Mexican or Mexican style food in Nashville...and so many people still turn to Las Palmas. If you really must have this food, have it made better at Las Maracas, OK Coral, or La Siesta. They are all better versions of Americanized Mexican-style food. And they're just as cheap, just as approachable. read more

I keep reviewing restaurants and beginning with "This is my favorite chinese/sushi/mexican/italian/etc. restaurant in town..." But I am honest! I feel that my favs deserve to have their praises sung on Yelp! So for real, I have eaten at every mexican restaurant in Nashville. Ok, so maybe not EVERY one...but a big chunk of them. And I have a solid test that I run by them all so I am able to judge them appropriately. It is called the Incredible Edible Chimichanga Test. (NOTE: a REAL chimichanga is not what Taco Bell serves). So, I order 2 chicken chimichangas with shredded cheese (as opposed to the melted queso dip that comes standard on most) witha side of rice, no beans, no guacamole salad but with a side of sour cream. Yes, I am aware that I am more difficult in my ordering process that the character on "When harry Met Sally." And I am not high maintenance...I just know what I like, and know what I don't like. So how does Palmas Verdes stand up in The Incredible Edible Chimichanga Test? We've got a winner!!!! Best in town! Hands down. The chicken is sauteed in a succulent sauce blended with spices...yet is not too spicy or over powering. They are good size...not too small and not too big. For lunch one is plenty but for dinner the order of two is perfectly satisfying. What else to try: Margaritas, baby! Whether frozen or on the rocks or...you gotta try these bad boys! Did I mention that they come in regular, jumbo, half pitcher or pitcher size? Oh yeah! The best part is to try these out during happy hour. Sunday through Thursday, 4pm - 8pm they are half off! That said, you can get a regular margarita for $2! Ohh, and they also have different flavors! Try the mago margarita for a tasty change! Pros: friendly staff, quick service, great salsa, large dining room with lots of seating, plenty of parking, best margaritas and chimichangas in town Cons: The only thing this place is lacking is a patio! *Also check out their sister restaurants, Las Palmas. And when I do, I sometimes have that craving for cheap Mexican food- a lunch filled with eating too many chips and getting that little spicy kick from hot salsa. This isn't a bad place to get your fill of that Mexican craving. It's not awesome Mexican food. It's not high quality ingredients. It's not super fresh or even on the level of chipotle. But for those times when refried beans and five baskets of chips are calling your name while in hermitage, this will do the trick. read more

Las Palmas is the best in Nashville. I've been going for years, it is always great, and they never disappoint!

This location has finally been renamed Las Palmas. It's definitely Americanized Mexican, but I've always had good food when I've visited. The best part about this place, and the Las Palmas franchise for that matter, is the e-Club. They send out the most killer coupons. I signed up and instantly received a coupon for free queso in the mail. A week later they sent me a digital coupon for buy one entree get one free. You can use these at any Las Palmas location! I never checked out Palmas Verdes myself because from the outside it looked like one of the innumerable generic Mexican restaurants around town. I also could never figure out why Las Palmas restaurants were all over the Nashville area except in Donelson/Hermitage. When I was finally told that Palmas Verdes was Las Palmas with a different name, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I've eaten here several times since then, because of the close location. Palmas Verdes has a very good selection of Mexican food. The only item I can find that they are missing is an alambres, which I don't care about personally but my friends love. If this is not traditional Mexican food that is fine with me and I wouldn't know either way. I'm American so I probably wouldn't like non-Americanized Mexican food if I ever experienced it anyway. The margaritas here are also some of my favorites at this low price point. The prices here are also good compared to the competition, such as La Hacienda or Camino Real, sometimes significantly. However, compared to other Las Palmas restaurants, the prices are higher. The food and menu here is exactly the same as at any Las Palmas other than the price being higher. Consequently, I could only recommend coming to this location if the location itself is extremely convenient to you or you really care about the dining room being more upscale than at Las Palmas. Otherwise, I think the Las Palmas on Antioch Pike is the best one in the city. I don't know if they have a slightly better chef or overall staff there, but all the food and even the margaritas just taste slightly better at that location, and the prices are normal. And I have one final note. I don't know if this experience is typical or not because it's only happened one time so far. The last time I was at Palmas Verdes, I ordered some nachos, and they arrived with almost no cheese on them. There was so little cheese that I could hide it completely by moving the nachos around. I told the waiter that my nachos arrived with no cheese on them and he took them and brought them back with an expected amount of cheese. I also wasn't charged extra, so ultimately the situation was resolved to my liking. I just have to wonder if that was some kind of legitimate mistake, or if they're now trying to gip customers by giving an absolute minimum amount of cheese sauce. And if the latter is the case, I wonder if this happens at all Las Palmas locations or only at Palmas Verdes. read more

There are few places where when you come in, they know you by name, even your children's names! Service is always prompt and the restaurant is clean. My family and I routinely dine here and are happy to continue doing so. Though it has rarely happened, if you have a complaint, they are very reasonable and attentive to address your concern and they will fix it. The manager, Eva, is very professional and kind. Although I left Nashville in 2011, I did spend a good chunk of my 8 years there trying to find a salsa that compared to Palmas Verdes' (not to be confused with Las Palmas, who are all supposed to be the same entity. Palmas Verdes is way better). Now I'm back in my home state of California (let's face it-- much closer to the border) but I am STILL in search of a salsa half as crave-worthy. I could drink it. Not kidding. I judge all Mexican food on three key items: Salsa, Beans, Rice. This place is a triple threat. All three are consistently flavorful and fresh. I tried a few things over the years that didn't exactly blow my mind, but the fajitas and Enchiladas Rancheras were always satisfying. I'm all about the corn tortillas. Gluten-free, baby. I often took the kids I was a nanny for here and it was always easy. Definitely passed the picky toddler test with their chicken nuggets and french fries. I'm a fan of the booths... very cozy and quiet even during the packed hours. Bonus: the staff is so kind. Double bonus: they all wear matching shirts and every day of the week is a different color. My husband and I have been eating at this same location for 7 years. Food has always been good, the happy hour margaritas are on point (for under 5$??) and service has been good. We always sit with the same person (we are here so much we know who the best is!). No complaints here besides the prices continue to rise often and it's pretty expensive now.. Let me preface this review by saying I'm from California so I know good Mexican food. Moved here in December and today I decided to start my search to find good Mexican food. Sadly it did not start off well with my choice for going here. Location was empty having only about 10 customers, on a Friday afternoon during the "lunch rush", in the entire hour we were there. 3 waitresses visible and it took 20 minutes to get a drink refill. Greeted at the door by the host. Possibly the owner or manager. He was pleasant. Nicely decorated location and music was not overpowering. Salsa tasted like Pace out of a jar. No flavor what so ever. Store bought Taco shells for the tacos. Waitress was ok but never really checked on us other to take plates away. Finally got the bill but then she disappeared for 10 minutes and when she took the bill to process my card she was gone another 10 minutes. All in all, no flavor and will not be returning. read more

Mexican food is one of my guilty pleasures and whenever I'm on this side of town, I ALWAYS come here. The salsa and chips are always fresh and amazing and the recipe for their salsa is different then anywhere else I've ever been and amazing. Their margaritas are cheap and tasty with the perfect ratio of tequila to mix. The item that I love to go there for the most is there Chile Rellano. It is next to impossible to find a place that can make a Chile Rellano any better than just "good", but theirs is absolutely perfect and amazing; I'm pretty sure I could eat one every day for the rest of my life. I went for the first time since Palmas Verdes changed to officially be a Las Palmas. Gone are the nice sturdy wooden tables and now replaced by generic tacky table tops. The food was ridiculous bad. I guess since they "down graded" to Las Palmas, everything there has down graded. If you do go there, whatever you do, do not order the beef and bean nachos. You'll end up sending them back like my boyfriend did...twice... I just don't understand how you can make enchiladas without enchilada sauce. Replacing that with white cheese sauce is not okay. Super disappointed. I will not return to this location as long as it is Las Palmas. Los Compadres now has my full attention! read more

There aren't enough great things I can say about this place. We go here all the time, and even though I probably haven't had everything on the menu, I like to think that i have! I've never had anything I was displeased with - not once. The salsa is AMAZING. This is a big thing for me because I despise cilantro in salsa - and their salsa is cilantro free! I'd recommend the fajitas or any of their burritos. Even the tacos are good. To address the bad service in some of the other reviews - I've never experienced bad service here. Not once. I consider myself a heavy drinker... of soda. My glass is always topped off before it gets empty which is more than I can say for a lot of places. 5 stars, well deserved. read more

LP is THE Original Mexican restaurant here in twang town !! they work very hard to KEEP your business. SO many Mexican joints have popped up here and it seems on every corner. but LP is always the same. good food and fast service. they appreciate loyalty. Good lunch reaching anyone at this restaurant. Their online ordering does not have the ability to make any substitutions or changes to the items on your order. The online orders are processed and handled by Door Dash, who will not assist you either. They will simply tell you to call the restaurant. I called the restaurant 5 times before someone finally answered. The girl who did was rude and told me the only option was for her to go to the kitchen and see if they could change my hard shell tacos to soft shell and remove onions from the second item that we ordered. She said I could wait on the line if I wanted. I waited for several months before someone picked up the phone and hung it up. I tried calling back over 20 times to not avail. And then my order showed up. And of course it was wrong. Unfortunately, this is now the 3rd time we have had a similar experience like this and will no longer try to eat here. Despite having written a couple dozen Yelp reviews, I still have not written one for the single restaurant I've been to most in my life. Wow. My family and I have been coming to Palmas Verdes since they opened, which I think was around 2003. To say that we adore it would be an understatement. I routinely go with my parents, and I've also taken no fewer than four people I've dated. Plus my aunt one time. There's no telling how many thousands of dollars we've dropped at this place. For some pretty good Mexican food with casual decor and a low-key vibe, it's really hard to beat. First off, the drinks. Starting a year or so ago, Palmas Verdes introduced a happy hour special. Sunday through Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., beers and house margaritas are half price. Now, neither one was expensive on regular price (a 32 oz Dos Equis is $4.20ish, and the jumbo margarita is around $6.50). At happy hour, it becomes an unbeatable deal. And unless you're just itching to drink, one jumbo 'rita will satisfy you. You'll be buzzing with more than that. I've yet to try the top shelf margaritas (those are not covered by the happy hour special), so if someone has, drop me a line. I'm curious. Next, a review of a Mexican restaurant isn't complete without discussion of the chips and salsa. I'd say this is a big reason why Palmas Verdes has become a huge favorite of ours. The chips are well cooked, almost never soggy or too salty, and served warm. Their homemade salsa is a combination of a tomato puree with some chunks of tomato and assorted ingredients. If you're looking for something a bit zestier, ask them to bring you the hot salsa. It, too, is homemade, and packs a bit more of a punch. And of course, if you're glutton for punishment like me, they can also bring you a bottle (not homemade) of the El Yucateco Chile Habanero sauce. And if all those complementary options aren't enough, they also have a homemade green salsa. It's 59 cents for a small bowl, but you should try it at least once. Of note, if you order the pork tips with green chili sauce, it's the same thing that will come with your entree. I've probably tried close to 20 things on the Palmas Verdes menu. A lot of the dishes are subtle variations on one another. One of the more unique dishes and a personal favorite of mine is the Camarones (shrimp) Chipotle. This is, shockingly, a shrimp dish in a chipotle sauce. I find their chipotle sauce to be really unique and not quite like anything I've had anywhere else, so this has become one of my most-often-ordered dishes. When I'm not craving the shrimp, I tend to gravitate toward the Burrito Fundido (a cheesy burrito stuffed with chorizo). Palmas Verdes's chorizo is well seasoned and very flavorful. If you'd prefer your beef in the less-sausagey variety, don't hesitate to order the chimichangas, which come with your choice of beef (this is chunks/shredded, not ground beef) or chicken. Here again, the meat quality is very good. If that sounds nice but you're looking for a healthier alternative to the fried tortilla, try the Burrito Jalisco, which is topped with lettuce and pico. And if cheesy rice mixed with onions, peppers, and your meat of choice sounds good, try the LP Special. A final reasonable option is one of the combo plates. The option with an enchilada, two tacos, and chile con queso tends to be one of our favorites. If you're feeling particularly carnivorous and are in the mood for a lot of meat, try the parrillada. A part of the grill menu, this is a way to get chicken, pork, shrimp, and chorizo all on a giant plate with a few onions and green peppers for flavor. The menu has options to make this for one person or two; my parents routinely split this dish FOR ONE and sometimes still have leftovers. I've never seen the parrillada for two. They probably have to sacrifice a whole farm to make it. A final note: Palmas Verdes is part of the Las Palmas family in Nashville. Despite the menus and dishes being very similar, I have to say that I've had much better experiences at Palmas Verdes than the other Las Palmas locations. Something about the food is just...fresher. I'm under no illusions -- the stuff's all coming from the same place, I'm sure. I can't describe it, but my whole family agrees. read more
