I used to come here a lot growing up & when I moved out of Carson we stopped. I remembered the food being good so gave it a shot as an adult in 2015-ish. Never went back because the food was blegh.. then Covid hit and I decided to give this place another shot considering the loss many local restaurants had due to the shutdown... my family & I now go in 1x a week for our dinner because the food is THAT good. I used to come to this place when I was with LAPD. I have only ordered the carne asada plate. I recently came back to try it again I am happy to report that this place hasn't changed. This is the BEST carne asada ever. They use skirt steak which is the traditional cut to use. It is served whole and not cut up. They serve it with grilled onion slices and avocado slices. Yummy. Table for 2 and ordered two combo meals but the 2 cokes sodas cost $4.25 per person which was $8.50 just for the soft drinks $4.25 is crazy to be changing a customer for a glass of coke The music is so loud inside that they think its a nightclub which you can hear the music a few blocks away. You can tell the waitress to turn down the music and they don't care 100% at all. I ordered a bag of chips to-go and they charged me $20 dollars for a bag of chips. It feels like I'm eating with neighbors and friends when I'm there. During the pandemic they did all they could do to feed and accommodate their customers, keep them safe and make them feel comfortable. They have convenient To-go service as well. Super gross! Ordered a taco salad with carne asada to go. Went to pick it up and the place smelled like a wet cleaning rag. It was very unpleasant. The woman helping us get our order together was very nice and offered us all kinds of mild and hot salsas. That was cool. But then, we get back and I begin to eat my taco salad. They put tons of sour cream, which isn't terrible. As I ate more, the salad mixed with the food became really soggy and watery....almost like they didn't let the salad dry completely after washing. There was a lot of soggy water at the bottom. Then...here comes the gross part....I found a gross ass long hair deep in my food. It was so nasty. Lost my appetite after that and threw it out. The food came out fairly quick, but sadly only the meatball soup that came with my meal was the only thing that really satisfied me. The tortilla chips were super flaky and yummy, but there salsa totally lacked freshness.. It was an off brown color and tasted like it's been sitting out overnight. I ordered the ceviche, which looked good when it came out, but turned out to have a funky fishy taste. I told the server and she was super nice and took it back.. A number of outdated things, from the sitting booths to the old tvs. Might work for some people, but I need to feel that the place isn't being neglected. So I've been coming to this place with my family for years and the food and service have never let us down. I visited today and ordered the chile rellenos which were fantastic! Here they are made with Anaheim chiles which I prefer over the poblano that most restaurants use. The salad with house dressing is always a hit, don't know what they do to get it so cold and fresh. I should note that here, they leave your table with an entire bottle of house dressing..take advantage of this and pour it over the tortilla chips! This dressing is to die for. The salsa served with the chips is good but if you prefer something a little hotter ask for the hotter salsa, that salsa is the bomb!!! Watched as our food sat in the window for a good two minutes or however long it took for the cook to ring the bell three times to get our waitresses attention. I've always enjoyed the food here, I remember being here when it was super packed but the waitress remembered my regular order and had it ready for take out within 15 minutes of being there. I like the workers, but I guess it's after the years of showing up here. The food is great, it's not like the best restaurant around but for what they make and the price you pay is a solid deal. I personally like the tacos they have, the hard shelled ones with my favorite combination of cheese. I'll give this a solid 2!! Why did I give this a 2 star you ask?? Well first of all I ordered a carne asada burrito and ask if I could get meat only with the beans and rice that comes inside to be on the side instead. The lady told me that it would be a extra $2 charge to put it on the side?!! Wait really?!? Her excuse was the cook would have to do extra work?!? WOW?!?! Also I asked if I can get only meat and avocado and she's said it no longer comes with it inside!! But why is it still on the menu?!? So yeah that's pretty stupid and most likely wouldn't come back. However the carne asada tasted ok but it was definitely burnt a little and the portion was tiny. Even my wife's chicken quesadilla was tiny looked like a kids meal for $7.50! Rip off.
