Straight up BOMB.COM!! I go to all these other restaurants they are expensive and hardly give you any meat it's more vegetables than seafood. You are not going to be disappointed.

Really good food with decent prices. The people here are really friendly and humble. I recommend it. So far everything I've had here is delicious. The sopes, birria, tacos dorados are all good. I can't wait to try their menudo.

    Bland, dry nasty "birria"

The girls taking our order was RUDE! She acted as though it was a bother to take our order.. Brought our food to the table and just set it there with such attitude and bother! The place is Dingy, ugly and boring!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY not worth it.

We just moved to CA and have been looking for authentic Mexican and finally found a legit place. We had the beef and chicken tacos. The owner and cook served us and were real nice. He hand makes all the tortillas to order. The salsa is awesome. This is now our new regular spot

The best Ceviche and shrimp tostadas.

Delicious hard shell tacos with fresh salsa.

It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. There was one that we were interested in and asked if we could have it which the waitress working was ok with. But it needed clearing up. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. Only the front patio and inside seating was available as the back patio wasn't open. We did start to see other staff walking in so maybe there was only one staff during the time.

The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

We asked for water twice. He took our order for drinks. I ordered a mango margarita and my daughter (28 years old) wanted the same on the rocks. Unfortunately, she didn't bring her ID as we hadn't really planned on dining out. He refused to serve her. Ok no problem. However, my drink didn't have any alcohol at all. (I'm well over 21 years old). Told the waiter my drink was without alcohol and my daughter's drink was blended, not on the rocks! Waiter came back with a jigger of tequila. Finally got our water. We ordered the birria tacos, 3 beef tacos and a burrito. it did not have the consume dip that is supposed to come with it ( had to request from the waiter) & the whole entire taco shell fell apart. The portions were quite small and the prices have surely gone up for the amount of food on the plate. The burrito wasn't bad. Service wasn't great. Waiter never refilled our water glasses. He kept pushing dessert when we weren't even finished with our meal. Ambiance is typical of most Mexican style restaurants. Sorry, but we will not be going back to El Torito.
