This is a long overdue review. I have continued to eat here over the years and like a fine wine, with time the place has aged well! I'm good for a carnitas salad once a week. As other reviewers noted, the portions have gotten smaller. I'm not complaining because it means that I feel less guilty about indulging once in a while. The chips have also tended to be kind of stale and/or overcooked. I like their pico, but for $3, I can get better chips and pico in larger quantities. Warning: Their hot sauce appears to have gotten hotter - as in burn-the-hair-off-your-balls hot. I liked it, but my face was still ruddy the next morning. Las Olas is a counter style Burrito, Taco and Salad place similar style to Chipotle in the function of ordering your food, but way better. The place is always clean, the bathrooms are always clean and we have eaten here probably more than 100 times over the past 4 years. There is pretty much always a line out the door during lunch service, so plan your visit accordingly. The line moves quickly and you sort of need to know what you want by the time it's your turn. The food has always been fresh and the optional daily special is great. I really like the cajun shrimp and tilapia options when they are available. I wanted to chime in on Yelp and offer some Pro-Tips on ordering at Las Olas. Are you super hungry? Go for the Quesadilla, this is basically a Quesadilla and then you can pile on every fixin available, which basically puts an unwrapped burrito ontop of a Quesadilla. Going for pork or steak? Ask for the Chimichurri sauce, this is delicious and pairs up perfectly with steak and pork. Probably chicken too, but I have yet to get that combo. Going for shrimp or tilapia? Ask for the aoli, they have a great aoli that can be added to your taco or burrito and is my favorite on the seafood. We have a gluten free person in our party and they have always been accommodating. If you have not tried their Chimichurri, you are missing out. For the morons who posted reviews trying to compare Las Olas to some full service El Norte Mexicano cuisine looking for enchiladas con carne, this is not that place. If there was a restaurant god they would spank you in the face with a hammer for your blasphemy. If you are hungry and like burritos, tacos and salads than this is your place. To the owners and management, good job. You are doing it right. One thing you may consider is losing the artwork on the right hand side of the line and putting in another chalkboard. On this chalkboard, put up suggestions or blueprints on the best ways to order at Las Olas. There are soo many combinations of meats, beans and salsa's and it would be cool to have Pro-Tips or suggestions. This would help others get informed on the benefits of burrito knowledge. Ordered a chicken burrito -- portions were very small including 3 small threads of lettuce initially (had to ask for more which required re-opening the burrito -- counter girl was disinterested). Meat was overcooked and too salty, prices were very high. Authentic San Diego........HA. Not a chance. no self respecting taco shop I know would charge extra for the green sauce. This place is exactly like Jason T. said. It is a poor man's Chipotle. Unfortunate for the poor man though because the food is way overpriced for what you get. I only go when I get dragged there and I ususally get the Fajita Burrito with no rice because rice in a burrito is retarded and only there because they want you to think you are getting a big burrito. Authentic San Diego taco shops do not run their establishment like a subway. In San Diego you tell them what you want and they make it how you like it with a much larger variety of ingredients. This place is about as far from authentic Mexican cuisine as it gets. Bland and overpriced. My burrito tasted as if I were biting into Asian rice wrapped in a giant flour tortilla, which was just strange and not very tasty. There are plenty of tastier mexican style food offered in the area such as Margaritas down the street, Taco Bell and Loco Coco's in Maine (my personal fave-at least it's spicy and flavorful). One of my go-to stops when I'm home from college. Definitely try their other options and explore the whole menu, and try all their salsas. I recommend the chipotle aioli for fish/shrimp and chimichurri for the beef and pork. Fast service and an eclectic variety of toppings makes it worthwhile if you can get over the long line. Really good. Not sure which came first but Las Olas is better than chipotle. I got the locally sourced chorizo and it was delicious. Guac was really good and the service was fast. My son and I have been here one time. We both thought food was delicious and I was able to get a Mexican Coke, so I was happy. My son had a kid's meal. I really liked that his meal came with a real-juice-not-sugar-water juice box. He was also able to choose from tortilla chips, beans, or rice as his side dish. The tortilla chips were excellent. I have been going to Las Olas since they first opened. It is a really great restaurant if you want something cheap and fast, but don't want to go to Burger King or McDonald's or a place like that. I have had a lot of great meals here, but have had a few not-so-great meals. Once or twice the beans were burnt really bad, the portions seem to vary a lot depending on who is working (sometimes my taco is massive and sometimes it is a tiny snack), and the overall quality seems to vary depending on when you go. One time the person making my burrito asked what I wanted in it, and when I told him he didn't even put the proper stuff in. At the time the restaurant was extremely busy, so I didn't want to make a fuss, but my food's quality did suffer as a result. That being said, I still go to Las Olas every few weeks because it is close by and very affordable, but they could use some better consistency. The restaurant's seating area is a nice place to sit and relax, and they usually play some good background music. The bright and cheery paintjobs around the restaurant add a nice mood as well. read more

I used to love this place. I would go daily for burritos. The burritos are still good, but the portions greatly decreased. My fiance and I are still hungry after each eating one. They should be more filling, I mean, its a burrito! So bummed about this. Also the people that work here are some of the most unfriendly people. I swear they roll their eyes at you just for coming in. Hate that. I order a very simple burrito and its like they want to hurt me for asking them to make me some food. And I'm not talking about when they're busy, this is when its dead. Theres also a girl there (brown hair) thats been there for a few years and she always has a puss on her face. Recently went to Las Olas while visiting family out in Exeter, New Hampshire and the food there is ten times better than any Mexican restaurant/fast food chain. My cousin's kids recommended we go there for lunch our first day there and at first I wasn't sure what type of restaurant it was because you had to go wait on line on one side of the restaurant to place your order. It's set up almost like a Chipotle's and the place gets packed during lunch hour. We were lucky the two times we went because we didn't have to wait very long on line. Everything they have there is delicious! I had the steak tacos twice and then switched over to ground beef. Normally when I eat at Chipotle's I always feel like I ate too much, but here everything was fresh. The place itself is cute and there is lots of room to sit since they have another section on the other side of the restaurant. If you're ever in the Exeter area, I highly recommend stopping by Las Olas!!! I will definitely go back again the next time we visit my cousin and his family!! read more

Las Olas is a pretty cool place.. I have to admit I hadn't tried it until like four or five months ago after a buddy recommended it, but been grabbing food there a few times a month since. I usually get a regular chicken burrito w/ guac. Good size, usually can't finish the whole thing. I was sort of surprised to read the comment below about the "stringy" chicken. I'd call it more like shredded, and like the flavor the dark meat adds. Younger staff, have been helpful. Was surprised to see they actually serve beers there. I think they are Mexican kinds? Not sure, haven't tried them. Will continue to stop in for quick bites here. I think more people (like me months ago) are finding out about this place. I've noticed the lines getting a little longer, for example Friday nights when I go. Oh well, good food, can't complain. read more

We waited in line for 35 minutes to order (with only 4 customers ahead of us) and the person behind us ended up leaving as the line wasn't moving. There were 5+ people on staff, and only 2 young men handling the line. I have certainly had better Mexican food in other parts of New England, but Las Olas was better than most chains and the food was flavorful and very reasonably priced.
