Oh my oh my....these folks make an excellent Cubano, cordita strong Cuban coffee and a pork and plantain empanada. I was in the neighborhood to get a badly needed haircut while visiting from the Bay Area for work and next door on the corner on an otherwise unassuming street is this solid legit Cuban sammie and coffee place. Locals galore sitting outside sipping strong Cuban coffee and eating Sammie's and empanadas. Who am I to argue with the locals. They definitely steered me right on this one. The Cubano was stuffed with moist roasted pork and ham with pickles and melted cheese. The spicy garlicky green sauce that comes with it could make an old shoe delicious ! The coffee was spot on and that roasted pork and plantain empanada also hit the proverbial spot. All in with tax and tip for $25 I was stuffed full and now remarkably fluent in Spanish ! Esta bien Las Olas Cafe ! Muy muy deliciosa !
Authentic coffee experience. Coffee usually doesn't phase me, but this place is different. One cortado and I'm ready to take on the day! Amazing empanadas as well. Depending on who is working, there may be a minor language misunderstanding, but that's how you know it's legit. So. Freaking. Good.
This unpretentious Cuban cafe is not to be missed. Only 2 blocks from Collins Ave but offers delicious authentic Cuban food at great prices. We got a couple Cuban sandwiches - hot, delicious, with a rich balance and optional jalapeño avocado sauce for those who don't mind heat. Also got fresh squeezed juice... that is actually squeezed in front of you. The most affordable and yet delicious meal so far in Miami Beach
Found these guys in yelp looking for a Cuban sandwich. And it was fairly close to where I was staying. I like that this place had the order window and door open so it felt great inside. Staff were nice and didn't take too long for my order. I tried the Cuban and it was good. But I got the pork belly bowl and it was so satisfying. Nice crunch and tender meat. So good! I loved the rice too. Definitely would get this again.
Los Olas Cafe is a must when you're in town! Get there in the morning and grab the shredded beef or chicken empanadas with a latte ("tres leche" in Spanish ). Perfect spot for a light morning start. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want to kick off your day in Miami Beach. Definitely coming back!
Very good Cuban also very affordable. I'd recommend as a local spot. The beef empanadas were good as well. I also had the cantaloupe drink fresh blended drink
In the midst of the high end, trendy, kitschy south beach eats locations, is las olas cafe. An authentic Cuban cafeteria, it services flavorful dishes, sandwiches, pastelitos and coffee. There is Both a sit down restaurant and takeout window, both constantly bustling with yelling Cuban aunties and food flying around in all directions. The service is a little slow on both ends, but they were busy so understandable and after all, good food is worth the wait!
Great neighborhood Cuban cafe for the locals! Of course had to venture out just a little bit to visit and the food had that taste from home. Packed w/ locals and a few tourists, the breakfast combo I ordered was generous with fluffy eggs. I ordered ham and paid $2.60 extra to add veggies (tomato, onion, and green pepper). Initially it was a bit confusing why this is extra, but it made sense when thinking about Cuban food which generally doesn't have this kind of veggies. And it comes with coffee by which they mean espresso, but I changed it to Cortadito because I love me some Smokey bold Cuban Cortadito! It was strong in the best way, and fragrant. Add un poco de azúcar and you're off to the races! Wife commented her croissant was much better than more expensive bakery we went to the prior day, and iced coffee wasn't too watered down (ask for little ice and sugar) like most iced coffees we've had in Latino cafes so far. Outside seating was pleasant though you may have local uncles smoking a pack at the next table but wasn't bad w/ the breeze & shade. Don't waste your money going to $20/meal cafes closer to ocean drive... just walk a block to here and enjoy better food at better price + mingle w/ locals.
We were hoping to get some local food while in Miami and quickly found that most of the restaurants around Ocean Drive and the more walked areas were heavily "catered" to tourists, meaning that they were simply mass produced and not very authentic, so when we found this place, albeit a bit of a walk, it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. It's a small cafe with an extern counter for ordering, or inside with seating; They are clearly frequented by locals and have a menu great for lunch, breakfast, or snacking. We ordered a Cuban sandwich to try, some tequenos, an empanada - we really enjoyed everything; it came with a few sauces, which had a ton of flavor and nicely complemented the combination of bread and meat. We just wish there were more places like this around the area as it seems to more accurately represent what people in the area actually prefer to eat.
The food took some time to be done but was delicious and plentiful. Staff is in constant motion, but very nice.
Whenever I travel on a cruise these days, I try to get to the city of embarkation the night before so I don't have any undue pressure the day of the sailing. Seems most ships I travel on these days pull out of the Port of Miami, and so several times I have flown in the day prior to. This time I was leaving on the Norwegian Cruise line's Breakaway, and so my friend, Michael and I decided to stay the night before in the Avalon Hotel in South Beach. South Beach cracks me up. When I was a young boy, my grandparents used to go there for the Jewish holidays and celebrate Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur at one of the many, many fancy hotels that used to be down in that area. Everybody there was Jewish! Then suddenly in the '70s, everybody took flight from that area and it became a ghost town. You could not give those old hotels away. Now you walk along the beach and it is one gorgeous Deco hotel after the other. Where you could buy a whole hotel for $10,000, now would cost $250 to stay for just one night in a room. The Avalon is a cool Deco hotel right there on the strip. While I was waiting for him to arrive from LA, I decided to take a recommendation and go get some lunch nearby. I asked my receptionist at the Avalon where would be a place I could go that is walking distance and not a tourist trap and he recommended Las Olas. He said it's the real deal and I needed to order a Cuban sandwich, which I have never had! The walk from the hotel was less than 5 minutes and there was Las Olas, sitting on one corner. When you step inside, you could swear you were in another country. Not a word of English is spoken and everything on the menu and all the signs are in Spanish. Even when I asked one of workers a question in English she was not able to understand me. It had a a charm to it, as if I were in Spain or Cuba or a Spanish-speaking country. Sometimes it's fun to be the minority. Gives you a whole different perspective! Anyway, although they had really nice looking trays of hot cooked food, I decided since it was lunch and based on the recommendation of my hotel receptionist, I ordered their Cuban sandwich. That sandwich had everything in it that I should not be eating. Pork, cheese, lots of fat and bread and absolutely delicious! LOL The Cuban sandwich was quite large and at first I thought I might only eat half and take the back to my room, but as I continued to bite into this delicious concoction, I suddenly realized that I had eaten the whole thing. I did notice that Las Olas is also very popular for coffee and snacks. Besides their inside restaurant, I noticed they had an open area where one could walk up and order a hot cup of coffee. It's it seems they are known for their espresso and people were lining up for it. After my tasty but fattening lunch, I walked back to my hotel for a nice afternoon nap. When I woke up with my full belly, I sat down in front of the hotel and did my infamous guessing game as people of all types and ethnicities and ages strolled by. You will marry the 5th person that walks by, the 10th person that walks by is a murderer, the 4th person that walks by Is in love with you, etc. It kept me busy until Michael arrived that evening and we enjoyed our dinner. South Beach is certainly different than it was when I was a young Jewish boy. Instead of the sounds of Yiddish and the smells of matzo ball soup, now you hear the sounds of Spanish and the smell of Las Olas' Cuban sandwich. Do yourself a favor, and next time you are in the area, stop by and enjoy this local establishment that seems to be the real deal!
Came here for lunch after visiting the beach and we really loved the food. We got the food to go because the little one needed a nap but we got two platters - 1 protein, 1 carb and 1 side each. Initally I got the Carnitas platter with plaintains and with rice but the beef was also calling my name so got yellow rice with yuca and beef. Our favorite was the carnitas but beef was also pretty good. Loved the green sauce they provided. Nice and spicy and super flavorful! read more

Quick stop before going to our couples massage! Great place, attentive personal and good food and cafe! Wife got a watermelon juice too. Croqueta and empanada were tasty too. The best was how open and airy the place is too. Service with a smile is great. read more

This place was so good we went twice while on vacation in Miami. You order from a window and service is quick and all the people working there were friendly. Get the chicken empanadas. They are delicious. read more
Me encanta Las Olas Cafe. Fewer things make me happier than the following: - Authentic, homey, mouth-watering flavors - Stacked and satiating plates - "Bang for buck" prices Check, check, and check! I ordered from Las Olas 3 different times over 3 days. And I'll be be seeing the 12 hours pork and mojo rice in my dreams. I couldn't get enough. I'm so happy that I stumbled upon this hole in the wall during my last stay in South Beach! read more
Another one of those restauraunts where I had a phenomenal experience but my friends who came with me did not. I decided to order something authentic and ordered the pan con lechon. One of my friends ordered avocado toast (yes, he's super white) and a danish. The food came out quite slowly. I sat there for likely more than 20 minutes waiting for my sandwich to come out. My friend received cold avocado toast and the staff realized after ordering that they did not have the right danish. Not to mention, they were out of many items on the menu. My sandwich was delicious. It was $13 and had a ton of meat and was reasonably sized. I'd just like to represent everyone in my group's experiences here. read more
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat during the week. They were hustling and bustling with customers coming in and out which was great to see. They offer up a steam table with various items you can select. They also have other items such as empanadas. The best part of the visit were the sugar cane drinks. Ambiance is fine. There are a few tables set up to sit. Tables and chairs have been well used (sticky) but we made it work. I did notice they have a window option as well - we may try to order via that window for quick takeout next time. read more

After giving up on the food in Miami, my husband and I decided to try Las Olas. The Cuban sandwich we had definitely resembled the Cuban sandwich we grew up to love. No shortage of pernil unlike a famous Cuban spot here in Miami. The guava and cheese pastries were warm, buttery, flaky, and filled with goodness. If you love coconut like me, you have to try the perfectly sweet, coconut smoothie. The pulp in this smoothie is my favorite. Seating is limited, but we had no problem grabbing a table inside. Parking was no issue the two times we visited. read more

I couldn't leave Miami without getting a Cuban, sandwich that is. I didn't want to go to Little Havana, and wanted to stick to the south part of South Beach. Las Olas actually came up on some searches of having one of the better ones. So off I went. Like menu places, this had indoor and outdoor seating. You place you order at the counter then they call out your number on your receipt when it's ready. I chose to sit outside. The sandwich was cut oddly. Not sure if i would do it length wise, as it was very flimsy. But, the way it is cut doesn't take away from the taste. This was perfect, in my opinion. The right amount of ingredients all around. A nice crunch to the bread. It also came with some sort of spicy sauce. Maybe a mojo sauce? It was a little to spicy for me, but I included it with a few bites. I was a happy camper with the sandwich. read more
I was in the area and stopped by for a quick bite but light treats. I ordered a ham and cheese empanada that was hot and delicious. Then I got a tequno and guava pastry to go. Everything is fresh and you get fresh juice as well. However the prices are a bit much for certain things and I know I'm paying for the area. But other than that I enjoyed it and would try something else another time. read more

Wanted to try a delicious Cuban/Spanish food spot and found Las Olas. Absolutely amazing food and super authentic. They have a hot line with rice beans plantains pork beef etc. Had the chicken empanada, yellow rice and beans and a Cuban sandwich. The potions were huge and we could have honestly split a Cuban and rice and beans. The Cuban was delicious and the bead was fresh. They cut it super thing but it's really long. The wait wasn't long at all and the staff was friendly. Limited inside seating which was clean. They had some outside tables as well and a Togo window. I highly recommend to come here if you're in the area! Parking would along any of the nearby streets and you just have to walk over read more

Decided to try this place as had time to explore during a work trip. As I had eaten earlier I wasn't very hungry Food: I tried the beef empanada and spinach and cheese. A bit breadth for my taste but flavorful. Highly recommend the cortadito with sugar Next time would be great to try other dishes read more
This is about as authentic Cuban as you're going to get in South Beach. They have a ventanita on one side of the building and you can order and dine in. The place can get a little busy, but they still get you your food relatively quick. I ordered a coradito con azucar and a Cuban sandwich. They give you the cortadito right away, which is nice to sip on while you wait for your food to come out. The cortadito was very delicious. The Cuban sandwich was actually served different then what I'm used to. Instead if cutting it in half horizontally, they cut it vertically giving you two long strips to bite into. It makes it difficult to hold while you're biting it, but easier to bite into. They put a lot of pork in this sandwich, and it tasted amazing. This will be my go to place whenever I return to South Beach. read more
BEST local cafe in south beach. Support local businesses! Their croquetas are nice and crunchy, with a good amount of salt. But really the star here is they have the best guava pastries. I'd go as far to say I liked them even MORE than Versailles in Little Havana. Pretty crazy. The pastry was flaky and buttery, and the filling was delicious and not overly sweet. When they run out of pastries for the day, that's it they don't usually make more which is sad because if I could I'd get a guava pastry after dinner as a dessert but they're always out by then. I like their coffee as well, can't go wrong with a cafe con leche or cortadito. read more

$13 avocado toast is a JOKE! White piece of bread + grocery-store bought guacamole + 3 leaves of spinach and an egg. The guacamole had that fake grocery store flavor to it. Absolute disgrace to a Latin restaurant. DISGUSTING Juices are good read more

I came to Miami with one goal and one goal only - to eat an amazing Cubano sandwich. Thanks to Las Olas that goal, or should I say dream, was achieved. This cubano was everything I expected and more. It was every so crisp with the most gooey cheese pull, it was piled with pork, and just all around perfect. I wasn't expecting it to but cut in half length wise, but that just made it easier to ensure that every bite had all the fixings. The wait to order was fairly long, but totally worth it and I would do it all over again...and would wait even longer if I had to. We ordered an empanada to hold us over while we waited for the cubano to come out. We went with shredded beef, it was good and served as the perfect distraction during our wait. So happy we came across this place and I would recommend it to anyone looking to fill a Cuban food craving. read more
Coming from California, my group and I had one mission, and it was to eat as many cubano sandwiches as possible. And by far the tastiest one we had came from Las Olas Cafe. We got there around 10:30 and there was already a sizable line. I decided to go with a cubano sandwich and a ham&cheese empanada. I really wanted the milenesa steak plate, but allegedly they were sold out. But if a tasty cubano is a consolation prize, I'm doing just fine. I first dug into the empanada and it was hot and crunchy, just how I like it. It was filled with ham and with not as much cheese as I'd like, but still tasty. For the cubano, I thought I got the wrong order bc there were two wrappers inside the bag, then I realized that the split the cubano in half and wrap each half separately. They look small, but damn are they filling. I asked for a side of chimichurri which provided a nice moist texture to break up all the salt. Being a lover a mayo, if I took the other half home, best believe I'd be using that kewpie mayo. Overall, really tasty and packaged great to take to the beach! My order took around 15-20 minutes, so if you are in a rush, give yourself some extra time because it's worth the wait if you are in the areas read more

After walking past this spot many times, I stopped and had breakfast this morning. Disappointed I waited so long. The breakfast sandwich with fired eggs, cheese and ham was awesome. I also grabbed a cafe con leche for a drink. Plenty of seating inside or outside You have two ordering options from the outside window or the walkup counter inside. It's worth a visit and enjoy! read more

This is real coffee. The first day I had cafe con leche which was pretty good. The next day I wanted to try the cortadito and it did not disappoint. I think after one sip I was fueled for the day. I also tried the ham and cheese crossaint. It was the size of my head and packed with meat and melty cheese. Service was quick for the coffee and since food is made to order there's a slight wait but totally worth it. There's no difference ordering inside or at the walk up window, just pick the shortest line. read more
There's a lot of buzz about this place, so had to give it a try. We got there with just a few people ahead of us, but they take orders kinda slowly, so the line behind us was huge by the time we paid. However, food came out pretty quickly after paying and was delicious. Cubano Sandwich: Apparently their signature dish here. Lots of thick cut ham and lots of pernil. Very meaty! And that roast pork was so tender and packed with so much flavor. A generous amount of swiss cheese. Felt a little skimpy on the pickles and mustard though, but maybe not everyone likes those condiments as much as me. The bread was very crusty after being pressed, but not crispy like a panini. Ropa Vieja Empanada: Don't skip the empanadas! This one is literally like getting a ropa vieja plate, but wrapped in dough. The meat is packed with that great bell pepper and tomato stewed flavor. And a hearty bit of beef at that. Lechon Empanada: So tender and so much flavor. I may have even tasted some mayo in the mix. Anyway, didn't last very long because it was so yummy. Churros w/ Dulce de Leche: Very long thin churros, to maximize the crunchy factor. I actually think I prefer this style to the thicker Mexican churros. And the dulce de leche was a very generous portion, so you might even have some leftover after dipping all 5 churros. Cortadito: A little coffee with a lot of punch. Strong espresso aromas and lots of sweetness and some cream. Really hit the spot, though much smaller than a cafe con leche. read more

Best restaurant in the South Beach, Everyone love this place, local hangout and tourist destination, Miami style food, Cuban cuisine influenced, Empanadas, Sandwiches, Coffee and fresh juices read more
I liked this place - it was no frills and it felt like authentic food. They have an outside-facing counter so you can order without going inside. There are also a few tables/chairs outside in the shade - but we found it still to be much too hot to even consider eating there. It was quite close to our lodging so I came back a few times. They do take forever to make the food though, so I would come with that in mind. Chicharron sandwich ($15) - I initially wanted to get the chicharron specialty, which is more like a platter ($10) but I think the staff were confused and were like yea it's the sandwich. We didn't have much of an opinion so we just went with it. It turned out really good! There was an insane amount of pork belly on it so it was quite messy to eat. I ended up deconstructing it since the bread was getting soggy - the pork belly had great flavor and was crispy on one end, but satisfyingly chewy on the other. I think it could have had more pickled onions for the meat ratio. It was so big I had this over two meals. Cubano ($10) - This was a big sandwich that they conveniently cut in half straight down the middle, which I thought was interesting. It was a simple sandwich and came out toasted. The hot sauce they give with it has a strong vinegar taste/smell. This was big enough for two meals as well. Sweet plantains ($4) - got these as a side, they were great. Pretty huge portion. Convenient location if you want to take your food to go eat on the beach. read more

Must stop by authentic hole in a wall kind of an establishment if you are in south beach. Seriously. No exaggeration. Coffee, breakfast, empanadas, ceviche, breakfast items, juices, smoothies etc. Tried a few things over a couple of visits. Coffee and empanadas are great. Smoothie is ok. They add sugar to it unless you ask that you don't want it. On Saturday they have a fish ceviche special that was delish. Prices are reasonable and 50% lower than what you pay on ocean drive. Service is a bit slow though but likely because they are so busy. read more
