We did a food delivery order from Islas Marias. We ordered several dishes one including a seafood tray. We asked them not to included shrimp in the tray due to my allergy to it. I even followed up with a phone call to let the host double check that it would not include it. Upon receiving the order there were prawns in the tray! I called them to see if I could get a refund or for a change of tray. Told the host I was willing to drive up there (which defeated the order delivery thing but I understand mistakes can happened). The host was very polite and said she would the cook. The cook whose name is supposedly Nico said no. He said no because prawns are not shrimp. This either was a language barrier on both ends or Nico was just being a jerk. Obviously prawns and shrimp are very similar if not the same. Clearly if one is allergic to shrimp they would be to of prawns. I heard him over the phone, while the kind host tried to talk to him he was very stubborn and even rude to her too. Very dissatisfied with customer service. Will never go again or order from this place. Food in the other dishes were also too salty and meat tacos were dry. So I ordered jumbo botana mix and it is the same size as the large. I don't know if they just add more to it and say it's a jumbo but this is expensive. Like the tray should be bigger if it a jumbo. Just so better people pay good money for the food to just recive the same size at least make it clear in the menu what they will get! Like show different size of trays or how much people they can feed,ect. Seafood ain't cheap at all make it better. And we did not get any sauce the pink one the one they usually always send and only one dried lime. read more

Soooo I was born in Chicago, IL. Growing up, my family and I would always go to Las Islas Marias for the langostinos (prawns) and ceviche. Then I moved to AZ when I was 10 but whenever we visit Chicago,IL we make it a point to go to Las Islas Marias! The langostinos are finger licking goooodddd! They are a bit spicy, I would say medium spicy with lots of butter and oil I believe. Definitely be prepared to stuff your face. This place never disappoints. The fish ceviche is also really good with the chile de arbol. Be aware it's very spicy! We also order the empanadas de camaron, they serve it with a chipotle mayo dipping sauce. The service is pretty good, they are attentive. read more

There were roaches walking on the floor! Service is super slow because they have an automatic 20% tip, plus a credit card charge on top of everything. Food had a weird seafood rotten smell. After reading the lackluster reviews, I should not have ventured to this restaurant, but I was craving seafood and it's close to where I'm staying so I gave it a try. Pros- complimentary crevice that is pretty tasty and reasonable prices. Cons- ordered the paella and it was pretty bland. Also service was sub par as no one checked on me to see how I was enjoying the food. I may give it another chance and try another dish since as it's really close by but only if I'm really hungry. 3 stars for the ceviche! read more

The seafood here is delicious. My husband and I randomly stopped in and are glad we did. They brought out chips (tostada shells really) & dips which were good. We ordered the red snapper and their new seafood soup. The flavors were great!!!! My husband found the soup to be a little salty but I absolutely loved it. I'm surprised as I'm a new seafood eater. Service was fine to me. The ladies were really nice and attentive. They do lose a star for that overly loud music. When we got there it was off and then in the middle of the meal... BAM! I could understand it at night but jeez at 12 in the afternoon... I can't. They really do have great food and honestly $35 for all of the awesome food we got, wasn't bad at all. El Levanta Muertos o Chapuzon is the best, the other dish is the COCTEL EJECUTIVO you won't regret it, a little spicy but worth it. My advice is to call first and ask what is the waiting time and if is not, order your food in advance (well I know what to order :-) they don't take reservations and they sale alcohol. I do not recommend this place. As I walked in I was immediately approached by two individuals asking for handouts. The tables was greasy and looked dirty. The bathroom was a mess. I'm sure gas stations have a much cleaner bathroom then this place. I ordered ceviche and a cantarito. I can say that the cantarito tasted like nothing but lime juice. While waiting for my food, servers and cooks were in plain view of customers eating, goofing around and touching every surface possible. If they do this in plain view, I wonder what happens behind walls. However, when I spoke to the manager he seem not to care at first, but he was very polite and easy to talk to. I've only been to this place once so keep that in mind. I started off with a diet coke and yes they have it. Dunno why another reviewer said it wasn't there. Then I had the Mendigo which is a warm shrimp broth. I actually thought it had real shrimp in there but no. The photo on the menu was a bit misleading. Oh well. I shoulda read more carefully. My main course was the camarones zarandeados which literally translates to "sifted shrimp". It was awesome. It was shrimp with the shell on and little legs and stuff but it was in a red marinade which was simply awesome. It's hard to describe. It was spicy not hot but spicy in the sense it has a lot of spices in it which I can't guess what they were only to say they were great. It came with a mound of white rice, some salad and a little cup with a slightly garlicky mojo sauce to dip the shrimp in. It may have been butter based or some type of oil but it made the already great shrimp outstanding. It sorta reminded me of a cajun or creole style shrimp but Mexican style. I was told this was Nayarit style, state on the west coast of Mexico. Yum. I then cleansed the palate with a slice of orange provided in the salad. I was too stuffed for dessert. It was a good size portion not these rip off 3 little shrimp like at some of these hoity toity joints. Service as fine, the waitress (I'm old school. I still say stewardess!) was prompt and friendly. I actually was going to order the fish zarandeado but she warned me right away it was going to take at least 45 mins. It was my first time but it won't be my last! read more

Same mistake many of this type of places make: the music will leave you deaf and there will be AT LEAST 3 or 4 different people that will approach your table asking for money or trying to sell you something.. Horrible place to dine in. We got over charged on food. Waitresses on the corner eating and chatting, completely ignored by them. Our waitress must have figured she had an easy tip because its added after 4ppl, so im guessing she didnt feel the need to provide good service. When i complained about the amount charged she just said thats how they do it. Mind you, we ordered two virgin pina coladas and still got charged as if it were with alocho. Never going there again. This is hands-down me and my fiancé's favorite spot. We have been there probably 40 times in the past two years. We alwaysget the Mocajete Cora with extra sauce- but the whole menu is superb. We also just ordered through Uber eats for the first time and it showed up piping hot and just as delicious as dining in. If I could give them zero stars I would!! Their caldo de camaron (shrimp soup) was horrible. It literally tasted like shrimp in hot water, there was no flavor to it at ALL. We then asked the waitress if there was something wrong with it because it tasted very watered down and she said "oh well you're the first person to ever complain about this" she didn't even offer to give us a new bowl or a refund she just walked away. To top it off the service was absolutely horrible. She only came to take our order and after that we heard her in the kitchen laughing and joking around with the cooks. The food is good but my experience at this restaurant is bad. Yesterday, my boyfriend invited me to have a nice casual Sunday evening and it turned out to be an uncomfortable, stressful one. The music was freakyn LOUD. Unable to keep up a conversation becuase of the noise, I could only get close to my boyfriend to chat. They only played one type of genre music; duranguense. The most annoying was the high volume and the time it took them to serve our food. The waitress didn't tell us how long the food was going to take and I continued to stuff myself with some tostadas and crackers. The staff including management are horrible, I paid with my credit card and the server was too busy eating her lunch when I called her over she must have mistakenly double charged me. I went back and fourth with management over 30.00, I even went in and spoke to a manager and showed him my bank statements, he said he would call me back as soon as he checked his paperwork. Well, 7 months later, I have not heard from them. I give up, every time I call, I speak with a different manager. I will NEVER dine there again, food sucks anyway! Great authentic Mexican Seafood Restaurant. If your in the mood for some great seafood don't forget to visit this place. Located on the corner of 24th Place and Pulaski the restaurant has a Dive-y feel, but the food is worth it. Tends to get a bit noisy with the local musicians offering their services, but if you can get pass that you'll have a good time. Some of my favorite's include: Shrimp ceviche, Empanadas de Camaron, Langostions a La Plancha Charola, and Huachinango Frito. read more
