Local, casual restaurant with friendly service. They are closed on Monday, which we found out by trying to visit one afternoon for lunch! My colleagues and I enjoyed speaking with one of the waiters who had shared information about the history of the restaurant in the neighborhood. This restaurant is located in the Curve plaza at the intersection of Mississippi and Harlan. This restaurant has been here for years, and their menu is not too large, but it is still easy to find something you like. I had chicken tacos, which were somewhat spicy, but I used some of the complimentary salsa to spice them up a bit more. Their tortilla chips were the only thing I really did not enjoy while there. They tasted like old, store bought chips, and were not fresh. Also, as we were leaving, there was a woman who came in with her medium sized dog (which was clearly not a service dog as its behavior was not in tune with the woman). While I love dogs and have my own, I did not think it was appropriate to have the dog inside the restaurant. It is sad that people think this is ok, when their dog is clearly not a service animal. read more

Called 6:25 pm on a Saturday, started placing a order and after part of the order they tell me they can't cook that because they close in 5 minutes. That doesn't seem to be the hours posted online, and what restaurant closes at 6:30 on a Saturday? My mom has been coming here for 30+ years and me for now 24+ years. I grew up on cheese enchiladas and played jacks on the floor here! This place is fantastic. Rose/Jerry have the skills to make the best and yummiest mexican in Denver. I think I have had everything on the menu at least once and it is all delicious. When they added the full bar it became the perfect place. It's like family here and they always make sure to welcome you. There's an open kitchen which I love because you can always holler back at who ever is cooking and give them a hard time or just say hello. My favorites are the enchiladas, summer special, and the smother beef burrito. THE BEST OF LAKEWOOD! Authentic Mexican Food Rosie the Owner is an AMAZING cook & lady. I've been going there since I was a little kid and she was a little kid when her parents used to run it over 40 years ago. I pretty much try to everything there queso is awesome so is there salsa! I can't believe I am actually writing this review. I almost feel like I'm betraying las cazuelas, but something needs to be said. I have been coming here for about twenty years. Since I was in high school this has always been great food. Over the past couple of years the food has continued to be good but the service has diminished a bit. It's generally pretty slow service no matter what time of day you go in, but.... Tonight's visit did me in. We were charged $8.00 for queso. When I say queso I mean it was less than 3/4 a cup of at best, canned cheese!!!!! So incredibly disappointed! WORST DISGUSTING FOOD EVER!!!! If I could, I would pick no star. I am visiting Denver for work, and this was the first place I tried for lunch due to the reviews. I originally wanted a Carne Asada burrito, but they don't sell it. Then I ordered Royal (dry) shredded beef burrito TO-GO, and it came in a small container 35-40mins later. The burrito was watery and I noticed something was leaking on the passenger side in my vehicle. When I opened it, the burrito was mushy and their was hardly any beef. It was all lettuce and tomato. I would NEVER eat here again. The place needs help, the carpet is VERY DIRTY. The flowery carpet is black, the celling is peeling from water damage. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! read more

Had to give a 5 star review for service and food quality. Thank you for making all your food so flavorful. My husband and I were about to give up until we came across this place. When they accidentally gave my husband a shredded beef chimichanga instead of the ground beef burrito, they immediately wanted to remedy the problem. I asked for more ground beef tacos instead of another chimi because he was also not a fan of the breading. I tried it though, and I wasn't a fan at first... then I took a couple more bites and realized how flavorful the beef was. Thanks for giving us hope! Highly recommended. read more

The Best Mexican in all of Colorado! Finally brought my Dad with me. Haven't ate here since '09 Super Yumtastic! I learned of this back when I was in High School over at Alameda High. Introduced my Mom to this place when she worked at Hancock Fabrics off of Alameda and Sheridan and had her employees fall in love with this place. Ever since I joined the Army back in 01' any time I was in town I would stop by. They have great personal service to each customer and the brothers are too awesome. Pretty mediocre in general. I've heard several people rave about how great Las Cazuelas is the past several years, and without a fault, every single person has stopped coming here. It seems this place used to be good, at some point in the distant past, but I have never seen it. I've been here twice: once a number of years ago, and once several months back. Both times were a solid C-, 6/10 "meh" meal. The staff seems great: polite, attentive, and quick, but that is the only real positive about this place. Actually, the only reason this isn't a 1-star review. The food is just so off. In a town full of Mexican food places, with a large Hispanic population, the food they serve here is nowhere near what a proper Mexican food place should ever offer. Bland across the board, stale chips, watery salsa, crusty beans, lettuce EVERYWHERE (seriously, like half of my plate was lettuce), and just... so very high-school-cafeteria all around. No idea what any sort of big deal is; there are a dozen+ other restaurants in the area with much much better food. read more

I want to let you know, the salsa and the refritos (refried beans) are great and with that, you have a good foundation for everything else. I usually grab a Tostada plate and head off to work and I'm always happy with it. I ask for extra salsa because it's so good! I need to order something with green chile again, because it gets good press from Westword and Yelp reviewers and this is research I love! Las Cazuelas has been on the Curve Shoppette since as long as I can remember, ( I moved to this area in about 1974). I wish my family came here instead of Taco House and Taco Bell in the seventies... This place is good and authentic. The salsa is especially yummy but really spicy! Both the fiancé and I ordered the chicken enchiladas combo. Comes with 3 enchiladas, rice, and beans. Very delicious although maybe not the BEST in Denver, like others have proclaimed. Having said that, it was still really good, cheap, and tons of food. This place has 0 atmosphere, but you shouldn't expect much for the prices you're paying. They have a churro dessert that looks really good, so next time we're in the Belmar area, I'm hoping to check that out. read more

I am new to the area and I was working nearby. I love Mexican food and usually these types of places are the best. Not much to look at from the outside, but Tony and his family are the salt of the earth. Best Mexican food, best service, best people. I love it here and hope to become a regular. Sad day. My family and I have been eating at this restaurant since I was a kid. A few years ago, it started going down hill. The service was slow and not friendly. The family that owns it knows my Father and I guess I thought since we were regulars for over 20 years and friends of the family, we would not get special treatment but at least cordial treatment. They were rude, slow and unusually insulting. BUT the food was over the top good mexican. So we tolerated it. Well then the food changed. My daughter and I went in about 2 years ago and the service was still rude and slow but now the food was over the top BAD! They changed their recipes and it was not good. The bad food combined with the bad service, we decided not to return. Recently, due to lack of over the top good mexican restaurants, we decided to give it a try after 2 years. I went alone and was shocked that it got even worse, if that is possible. Prices went up, the menu is now paper and the menu choices are now limited to the very basics (tacos, tostados, enchiladas). Gone are the Carnitas and mexican steak my Father loved so much. Gone is the cook Rose, who took pride in the menu. They had a tall white guy with long hair and a beanie cooking or should I say microwaving. I kept hearing the microwave bell and thinking, WTH is he microwaving???The place was empty. The queso had chunks of cold cheese (photo), the beans were crusted over(photo) and my taco was mostly empty(photo). The cheese is now white cheese, not cheddar. The onions on my enchilada were in chunks (photo). I asked the waitress (who was actually the only good thing) who runs this place now? Where is Jerry, Rose, Mike and Tony? She said Jerry and Mike moved and Rose is no longer there. Tony runs it along with his food trucks. Well I hope his food trucks are getting more care than this place. I will not ever return. SHOCKED!!!! I lived in the area of Las Cazuelas growing up and would frequent there with my family. I have returned several times when being back in the area. The place over 30 plus years hadn't changed much. The food consistent (yummy) and the decor (well it needed to change). Until last night. My husband and I were visiting friends and decided to grab dinner there. I walked in and my JAW DROPPED. Literally. To our surprise they had just completed a remodel in honor of their 40th anniversary. They said goodbye to the old carpet, wood paneling and dusty lattice. In place they put hardwood floors, a fresh coat of paint and beautiful decor. The place has a fresh new energy to it. To top it all off the food was amazing as usual. I was concerned at first that ownership had changed hands but I saw Rose and Tony in the kitchen and new we were safe. I am so happy to see that an old neighborhood restaurant is not only surviving but thriving! read more

New to the area and we have been hitting all the Mexican restaurants in Denver to find our favorite hang out using groupons. Our 6th Mexican restaurants in the past 8 days, and it's our least favorite. We are originally from San Antonio so finding awesome Mexican food is must. This is a local hang out. Server is really a hard worker but we did not get a decent service. We could see him smiling and chatting with locals, but we got the cold shoulder. Salsa was pretty decent with definite kick, which we liked. We had Tamale special and Fiesta Plate, both decent, but nothing to write home about. Lastly, we like the tortilla, so ordered dozen 'Homemade Tortilla' to go, yet we were disappointed to find "homemade taste" La Favorita tortillas when we got home... My father-in-law recommended this restaurant for dinner, so my husband, son and I joined him for a meal tonight. They recently remodeled and the place was very welcoming looking when we walked in, with modern furnishings and decor. We sat down and the waitress brought a water carafe and glasses over with chips and salsa. Immediately our son put his hand inside the glass and the waitress snapped at him, telling him to take his hand out since he would be drinking from the glass. Our son has autism and in general is pretty fidgety, so while he meant no harm it was a surprise to all of us that he was reprimanded from a stranger. We should have known at this moment that something was up. After my father-in-law arrived, we placed our order pretty quickly and got drinks right away. We then waited for 30 minutes for our food to come out, and we were the only table that ordered anything when we did. The two other tables occupied there were already finished with their meals. To make matters worse, a woman came in 10 minutes after we ordered and put in a huge takeout order, which was brought out of the kitchen within 10 minutes, so they put her order ahead of ours. After her order came out, our waitress informed us that they ran out of shredded beef, so my father-in-law had to substitute with ground beef. I'm guessing the takeout lady got all the shredded beef instead. Once it was our turn to eat, the waitress brought my husband and father-in-law their plates, (beef burritos with green chili) and we had to wait another 5 minutes for my plate (beef enchiladas) We then waited 10 additional minutes for my sons meal, which was a simple breakfast burrito. So we all had food that wasn't warm anymore by the time we ate, and Unfortunately, these meals had no flavor! The table salsa had more flavor than my enchiladas for sure. After we finished what we could, we got some boxes and packed up. We waited another 10 minutes for our check (go figure). Overall, our experience was poor, and although my father-in-law insisted he had never had a bad experience like this there, we won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone. We should have driven another minute on Mississippi down to Tamale Kitchen where you're guaranteed fast service and delicious, authentic Mexican food. read more

My number one Mexican Restaurant in the area. Great food, no frills, easy to dine in or take out. The number one reason I love this place is their Green Chili. I don't care what they put it on (Burrito / Relleno) it's great. I also like that they give you a tortilla on the side with Green Chili dishes that wouldn't otherwise have a tortilla; great to make your own little Green Chili soft taco with what is left on your plate. Nice staff make it easy to come in and grab a beer while you wait for your togo order. Not an elegant place by any means but you'll get over any reservations you have very quickly; probably as soon as you taste your meal. read more

This is NOT authentic Mexican food. We chose this place because of the great reviews, boy were we ever wrong. This has got to be my worst experience ever. We started with chile con queso and guacamole salad. The chile con queso was watery velveeta cheese with rotel poured over a tostada. The guacamole was actually decent. I ordered the green chile enchilada and the flavor was good but it was more like enchilada soup because my enchilada was drowning in sauce. The chip rounds and tortillas were cheapest walmart brand with no flavor at all. I will say the horchata was good. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Sorry Rosie but after a great return after the family issues you have chosen to raise your prices to an unsustainable rate. Example; Chili Con Queso, simple pre made corn tortillas, maybe 10cents apiece, then cheese wiz with milk and some chiles and onions at $9.00 for 6, they were $7.00 not that long ago, which was too much. Lets face it, there is very little cost in these. Next, how are is your pricing on your burritos making any sense. First one can get a plain burrito smothered with cheese for $4.00 not that long ago, at least that's what it shows on Yelp website. Now a Royal is actually $9.00 for same with lettuce and tomato, really. There was little to no cheese and $4.00 extra for lettuce and tomato. I could go on and on but bottom line is many of my relatives and friends have been wondering what the HELL is going on here. Good homemade green chili that is spicy with big chuncks of pork and bits of green chilies is better than your average chili gravy. Nice tasty and spicy salsa. Tasty moist mexican rice.
