Note: The waiter did me a big personal favor, altruistically, at what appeared to be the end of his shift. He didn't make that known, but I later learned. Only small town hospitality would accommodate us in such a caring manner. The food was excellent. Great salsa, chips and they even cut up an entire avocado at my request since my diet was temporarily restricted. That is in addition to a big favor that our waiter did for me, an out-of-towner. Thank you for serving my aunt, a native Kansan and long-time Southern California resident, and me. I will go back just to visit this place! Caveat: Please don't be in a rush when you are seated. The quality cuisine is well worth waiting for its superb preparation and presentation beyond anything either of us have yet to experience in bustling San Diego or Los Angeles. The waiters are merely (and courteously, may I add) busy helping customers like you, so please know they aren't being rude or anything like that. Just communicate directly with them. We were in a pretty big hurry, but this isn't a fast-food joint. Next time, I plan accordingly. I suggest you overlook any naysayer with conspicuously missing photos. This isn't Americanized but authentic Mexican cuisine. Clientele who have traveled outside of the Missouri State Fair will recognize and appreciate this high quality food. Great food, great company, fun atmosphere. TIP: A great stop on the way to or from The World's Biggest Ball of Twine. This review is all in my opinion only. The owner has obviously put a great deal of effort into making this a unique dining experience for diners of all ages and of all walks of life to enjoy. Enjoy life by eating here!

I would highly recommend this for the weary traveler and Mexican food fan alike! We saw great reviews on Yelp and ran out of the hotel. The location was across the street. Our stomachs sank as we drove up to a closed restaurant and abandoned parking. The joy was abundant as we read they had just moved down the street! We were greeted warmly when we walked in. Drinks came right away as we studied the menu. We were pleased at the good variety of Jarritos in the fridge. Wifey asked for chorizo queso to go with the house chips and that was better than we can get most anywhere we are. I got the La Bandera combo and it was so satisfying. It's been a minute since I got a chile relleno that was THAT satisfying. Also, I could order a plateful of their shredded beef chimichangas and be happy. But the chicken enchilada really held up too! Wifey got the Bernabe's Special and just about died wanting to finish the epic amount of food. All of it was so good!

I could have had just a bowl of those beans and been happy. I like a lighter chip, these were heavier, and I'd prefer more salt. The salsa was nothing special, but I did put some of it on my tacos. We got guacamole, and it was disappointing. It appeared as though they possibly ran short on avocados, something creamy had been added which showed up in the consistency and diluted the avocado taste, my guess is sour cream. So they lost a star because of the chips and salsa and the guacamole, your mileage may vary if those types appeal to you. Our service experience was great, we were seated quickly, waiter was on top of it, we got our drinks and our order taken quickly, and the food was there immediately. Both my meal and my wife's meal were very hot.
