The food was about on par with what you would find at a traditional Mexican restaurant in this part of the country. I ended up ordering the Camarones al a Diabla, and they were pretty decent. The sauce was nicely flavored, though there was less of it than I expected. The balance of shrimp and other sides was good, and the portion wasn't over the top. Overall, a pretty good meal. In terms of the vibe, I would say it's very Mexican. The television in the bar was set to a Spanish language channel. I was able to communicate just fine, but there was a bit of a language barrier with the bar tender. Not a problem. I actually view that as a sign of authenticity. I'll also note that they seemed a little short-staffed on the night I showed up. Everyone was extremely busy, so service was a little slow but still attentive. Everyone there was trying their best to keep up. All told, I would recommend this place. Not an over the top dining experience, but it was very clearly a locally owned place with a good vibe and lots of character.

My fiancé wanted to order his favorite Jose special. He politely told them that he has a shellfish allergy, so his food should probably not be cooked on the same area of the griddle as the shrimp. The manager proceeded to come out and say, "we cannot do that. I do not recommend you eating anything cooked on the griddle." My fiancé and I were shocked because he had never been denied that before. He was forced to get something that could be cooked in the Wood Brick oven. I then proceeded to ask the manager because I was baffled, "Do you not clean the griddle or are you unable to?" She proceeded to state, "No, they do not understand the concept of allergies." (pointing to her Hispanic workers). I was revolted by her comment, the service, and just how unprofessional she was. I have not eaten there since, nor will you ever catch me eating there unless management changes.

We were a little cautious because the door was propped open and several floor fans were running. It was fine, plus the temps there were just high 70s. Our waitress brought us menus and water, then while we glanced over the menu, brought chips and salsa. I asked for hot salsa and a mildly hot one. My wife chose the Lunch Burrito with a side of Frijoles. I went for the Lunch Taco Salad, although I was a bit disappointed that I missed not seeing frijoles in the list of ingredients. However my ant thoughtful wife shared hers. Our food was fairly quick, enough time to polish off a tray of warm tortilla chips. My wife's burrito was excellent, spiced nicely with the hot salsa. I enjoyed my taco salad, even with the absence of beans. And of course my wife had to test the Churros. A pleasant experience overall and good food with fair prices. And good service. A definite plus for little Hinton.
