Larry and his crew are all upfront, honest and incredibly knowledgeable. I have thrown them some real curveballs over the last 8 years on a variety of cars including classics and they can figure anything and everything out. They have rebuilt an engine for me, replaced an exhaust system on my vette, done regular routine service and so much more for me. They even saved my sister a boat load of money when the Toyota dealer tried to upsell her on a bunch of stuff she didn't need. Larry went so far as to call Toyota and tell them what they were doing was wrong. Great guys, great work and fair prices. You can't go wrong there! read more

Old school charm, old school dependability. Larry and his team are straight shooters, and the prices are fair.

I'm so glad I listened to my neighbor and came here. I love this place. He is honest and does a great job! Makes my can run smoothly - cared enough about my safety to place new washer blades on - they are the best ones I've ever had. My other favorite place I've gone to for 25 years is located in Pasadena, but the owner there is working less now as he's aged, plus I'd have to take the train home after drop off, then back to pick up my car. Larry's shop, located in the attractive historic brick building across from Mike and Ann's, is so close I can walk home while I wait for repairs. I noticed there are incorrect negative reviews on Yelp about Larry's Union Service which obviously confuse his business with another one. One review is about a gas station somewhere. LOL Yelp should put up a link for Yelp users to help them correct problem posts like this. I see this happen to a lot of restaurants on Yelp which is terrible - it can damage small businesses. I rarely post reviews, but I will make the effort to help keep Yelp reviews fact checked. read more

I came in to discuss my vintage car that needed a few small services. I walked up to the owner as he sat behind the desk. I stood there for a good solid 10-15 minutes waiting for him to finish up his phone call. He didn't bother to greet me or even acknowledge my presence. He was on the phone discussing his personal business/ holiday plans that he was making with a friend, blatantly ignoring me!!! I'm sorry but if you go into a business and the owners ignores you bc they're on the phone with their friend- it goes beyond unprofessional. This guy just has bad manners all around. A second lady comes in and stands behind. He still ignored us, not even having the respect or decentcy to say hello, didn't even think ask us to wait while he wrapped up his personal phone call. So now you have two customers in line waiting to talk to you while you're talking about some cover band and a Halloween party?! COME ON! Once he finally hung up the phone and acknowledged my existence he had a smug back and forth with me on whether or not he had time to even look at my car. He was very rude and wouldn't give me a yes or no answer. This guy is a joke. Who would do business with someone this rude?! read more

Larry is my go to mechanic! I've taken my car to him anytime my check engine light has gone on. He's honest and gets his materials from companies with good warranties on their parts. read more

I brought my mother's car to Larry's Union Service for a comprehensive maintenance service a day later than I had originally booked over the phone, and despite their being busier that day, Larry and his staff were able to fit me in and finish the service on the same day. When I picked up the car, Larry informed me the tires needed to be replaced urgently, and he didn't care if it was at his shop (which doesn't have tires on hand, so he would've needed to order them) or another shop, but it was necessary for driver safety. Moreover, since they were still working on other cars, he didn't have time to finish writing up the invoice, so he let me take the car and called me the following week to process payment over the phone. I appreciated that he was more concerned about safety over up-selling additional services. We ended up replacing the tires at Costco, and the car has been running smoothly since. I highly recommend Larry, an honest and reliable mechanic, and his auto shop. read more

Whenever I need honest and reliable services, I ask knowledgeable friends for recommendations. Larry's Auto Repair on Mission Street in South Pasadena was suggested by a friend with a vintage auto, which I know he loves, and in which he takes tremendous pride and care. Larry's Auto Repair has provided excellent and timely service for my car. I trust their knowledge and fairness in pricing. BTW: The reviewer who wrote about gas and snacks must be reviewing another auto repair. Larry does NOT sell either gas or snacks. read more

I was having trouble starting my car, so I came by on a Friday afternoon to get it fixed before the weekend. They were really backed up with customers, but they checked my battery and fixed me up right away. Staff were friendly and helpful. All I needed was a new battery, so I can't speak to what kind of service you might get for a more serious issue, but I would come back and find out. read more

Larry, This is Phillip J in S. Pas I tried to call your office to reach you by leaving a message. There's a old Toyota Van with home made ramps parked at your place and doing stunts with skate boards at your parking lot. I called the s. Pas police. They told me they will not respond unless it's the call is from the property owner. Hope this message reach you by someone that has your cell phone number. read more

They were able to see me same day I called, and so was able to pick up my car the next morning! Very quick, very kind and understanding, and great prices. My car feels brand new! read more

Don't trust Larry's Union Service. I just paid for $20 worth of gas, but the pump cut off at $12.87 I went inside to ask why, and the cashier said we bought some sodas. Apparently, someone at the next pump in the store at the same time bought some soft drinks and presumably also paid with a twenty dollar bill. The other customer was already long gone. I asked for the manager, the cashier Ashraf, said he was the manager. He refused to give me the gas he owed me, or a refund. It was all his mistake, charging me for someone else's purchases. read more

Larry and Dave (and the other young man whose name I don't know) are terrific! They NEVER up-sell the repairs. Reasonable, honest, fast and friendly. So lucky to have them in my 'hood. read more

Wouldn't let anyone else touch my car. Best service I have ever received. Larry always goes the extra mile to make sure my car is always safe and maintained. All of my cars have been token car of by Larry and they have been running fine with no problems thanks to him. If you are looking for an honest and reliable mechanic in the area, I definitely recommend Larry without a doubt. read more

On top of having no personality, Larry is a very dishonest mechanic, like so many others out there. I asked him to check my brakes because they sounded like they were worn out. He then quotes me $1300 in brake, rotors, calipers and labor. My truck isn't worth over $500 so I decided to just do away with it and not get the repairs done. He then says I owe him $58.00 for the inspection. Now I understand that a mechanic should be paid for their work. But most mechanics give me a quote on repairs without a charge. If they have an inspection that may be elaborate, and require an inspection charge, honest mechanics let me know BEFORE the inspection what that charge will be. Larry did not. I told him you may want to afford your customers that courtesy but he just looked at me and treated me like I was insane. read more

Clearly the review by Ernie A. was meant for a different business. Larry's Union Service does not sell gas or snacks and they do not have anyone named Afrash employed there. Larry's Union does auto repair only. Larry has been our mechanic for almost 40 years. He enjoys a wonderful reputation for honesty and fairness. I have messaged Ernie A. asking him to reconsider his post since he appears to have given his poor rating to the wrong business. read more

When my car died in the grocery store parking lot yesterday and the AAA battery guy said it wasn't the battery, I needed a new starter, I asked some friends for a referral. "Go see Dave at Larry's Union on Mission." At first Dave was conservative about how fast he could turn it around since it was the holiday weekend and all. Next thing you know, I get a call from Dave confirming that it was the starter and he would let me know if he could get the part by EOB. Two hours later, I received a call that he not only got the part but it was already repaired and ready to be picked up. I can't tell you how delighted I was for the speedy turnaround, but the price was EXTREMELY fair and I will tell everyone I know to take their cars to Larry & Dave from now on. read more

Larry's Union Service is the best there is. Larry is very honest and I would not take my car anywhere else. If you want honesty, fair pricing and professionalism, Larry's is where you will get it. I bought my daughter a car for college and it kept stalling on me. I took it to two other mechanics who said it needed a new transmission and quoted a repair cost of approximately $1,800. I was skeptical and unsure, and torn. I took it to Larry and he did a diagnostic on the vehicle and found that the problem was a faulty sensor of some sort that triggered the car to shut off - go figure, what do I know? Bottom line is, he fixed it, and it never stalled again. The grand total was less than $100 because he spent less than an hour replacing the part. I've been his loyal customer ever since. BTW, the post from Ernie A. is not true. Larry does not have gas pumps, or a snack shop. Larry's garage is as vintage as you get, and Ernie A. obviously has the wrong Larry's. I highly recommend Larry's Union Service for all your auto mechanics needs. read more

Larry is a wonderful, remarkably honest mechanic with prices that are eminently fair and reasonable. My wife and I have been his customers for years and will not go anywhere else for car repairs or service. Pay no attention to a previous review that complains about gas prices. Larry is an auto mechanic only and does not sell gas. read more

Larry's Union Service is a great mechanic shop. My family has had there cars repaired there for a number of years now and have had nothing but good luck. The repairs are done professionally and at a fair price especially when you compare what we used to pay at the dealer. Furthermore the service Larry offers with oil changes what he calls his 45 point inspection is well worth the extra money Larry has caught many issues with our cars before they broke down. We will continue our patronage at Larry's Union. Larry, Karl and Dave are some of the best mechanics around. read more
