Just give in and know you'll be eating most of your daily calories and carbs there. Worth it. Lapu Lapu is about a 7-minute walk from the Pentagon City metro station, and there are only about 10-12 bar-style seats inside. As I went searching this place called Lapu Lapu, I didn't realize it was split cafe. On the left side it's bakery called Gwenie's Pastries and on the right it's Lapu Lapu. I ordered three items: 1) Bistek 2) Chicken Lumpia 3) Lapu Smashed. Both burgers were tender, juicy and delicious. The bistek was a lemon soy marinated ribeye topped with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, lettuce and garlic adobo mayo and the lapu smashed was a double waygu patties, cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, lettuce and kuya burger sauce. They both come with thin tater tots with a choice of three seasoning so I chose one with Romano cheese and the other with Cajun seasoning which came other a dipping sauce. The chicken lumpia was crispy, delicious and serve with a sweet chili sauce. Be careful of your first bite since they just came out of the fryer. All staff members are extremely friendly, energetic and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was comfortable with limited of seatings but manageable. After a morning workout, I decided to get some breakfast at Lapu Lapu. It is a cozy little eatery co-located with Gwennie's Bakery. Both have Filipino cuisine inspired menus and the first thing you notice is how warm and cozy it feels in the space. My egg and cheese sandwich was perfection. The bottom line: amazing unctuous burgers, sandwiches, and shakes (are what I had, but there's so much more to try). This place was amazing. Loved everything I had here and now have to return to try out the rest. I got an order of the lumpia, short rib burger and the tots with Parmesan as well as a panda latte. I finally returned after a wonderfully hosted Yelp event recently! This second visit did not disappoint. The place was hopping during lunch on Sunday! This is a perfect grab and go spot, but many people opted to stay and eat inside. Friend and I had to wait for an extra chair or stool seating against the windows. I honestly hope they will eventually move into a bigger space to accommodate more customers (but stay in Pentagon City or move closer to DC, please!!). I ordered the chorizo sandwich. Let's be clear, the sausage patty is actually longanisa, a sweet and spiced combination that is much different than the taste of chorizo. Also between the two buns were a super runny egg and sauce, so make sure you have plenty of napkins nearby. This was number one on my list to try and I loved it! I took some bites off my husband's cornbeef hash sando with hash browns. the sandwich is very tasty. it is on a soft bun and is not greasy. the hash browns are like the ones you can get from burger king. You can get a seasoning on them that makes a huge difference. The portion size was pretty large as well. Services is pretty good they brought my sandwich to my seat. The soft scrambled eggs in this sandwich were probably one of the best I've eaten -- it was creamy and light, and mixed well with the smoked gouda cheese. The Lapu Lapu sauce was a bit sweet from what I remembered. The slice of spam was thin, but juicy and flavorful. Overall, solid sandwich, topped off with the softest bun. UBE SOFT SERVE - 6 My friend and I shared a cup of the soft serve. Very smooth and creamy with a lot of ube flavor, but a bit too sweet for me, so I let my friend eat most of it. Lapu Lapu was fire my forst time out. Now my wife is Filipino so if there a bit of bias sure but trust me it's really good. Out of the two sandwiches I tried the Bistek was the best. If you don't know what Bistek is it's beef marinated with soy and cooked with onions but the sandwich Lapu Lapu constructs has a Philly Cheesesteak type feel and it's just phenomenal. The Chorizo was really good has well too can't go wrong there it's more a sweeter sausage so keep that in mind. There is a Gwenie's bakery there and the ube latte and all the filled donuts is FIRE!!!!!!!! We had the ube filled and mango filled pure perfection. The service there was also excellent they were very patient and accommodating which made it more pleasant. Inside the restaurant is very clean and bright but it's not huge there is maybe one to two small tables then bar type seating the goes all around. This place is located on a busy street but has ample parking at the Costco across. It was super busy and since it was a bit of a small space, it got cramped pretty quickly. My family and I ordered 3 drinks - the ube milkshake, sweet tea, and iced salted caramel latte. All drinks were decent but very pricey in my opinion (sweet tea was $6!!) For food we ordered - bistek sandwich, chorizo burrito, and some pastries. The chorizo burrito had a nice crunch from the hash browns and love love love the fluffy eggs!! JAW DROPPED. Tried Lapu Lapu for the first time after just discovering Gwenie's, and wow this place is incredible. I ordered the Chorizo sandwich, which was a longanisa patty, a fried egg, cheese, and the Lapu Lapu sauce, all in a pandesal bun. Absolutely incredible. Longanisa is my favorite Filipino food, and I've never even considered having it in a sandwich! The way they made the patty is the perfect amount of sweet and savory, with a light char that you'd get from a traditional burger. I had a few bites of the paksiw sandwich, and it seriously blew me away! It was so juicy and flavorful, I couldn't believe how good it was. I am pretty picky with Filipino food, since not all places cook them up to my standards, but these were seriously so so good. I like that Lapu Lapu is combined with Gwenie's (a Filipino bakery/cafe), so you can also get a drink with your food and a pastry for dessert. The place is quite small as a result of this, and it can get pretty packed in the mornings, but still loved sitting down to eat here. Maybe that's fine though since they really pile on the meat. it's not instant grab and go, i think they make it fresh since i had to wait a few minutes after ordering but i prefer a fresh sandwich anyways! Gotta love supporting Filipino businesses! Having these two wonderful businesses together in one place is super convenient. They're located across the street from Costco and are easy to find. When you walk in, you're met with the smell of fresh food and are enticed into trying every little thing! There's some tall seats alone the walls and window, as well as some normal-height seats if you want to eat in-store. The workers are friendly and helpful. They're also very quick and efficient. As for the food, I loved them all! I'm just sad I couldn't fit more into my stomach haha. If you're lucky with timing, you may even get some baked goods fresh out of the oven from Gwenie's.
