The staff and customers seemed to each do their own thing, I like that in a way but they just didn't seem approachable or willing to acknowledge the customer with even a smile or "hello" - disappointing. So I backed up with Time Machine on a new external hard drive - and lo and behold I haven't been able to use this to set up the MacBook again! Not enough room on the MacBook! There was no indication that there might be any risk, even though I told them of seeming to have more data in the backup than in the original hard drive. I took it back to the store - they were not helpful - all they could suggest was starting again, abandoning all my applications, my Mail folders, my settings...This is not good enough. They took no responsibility for the very poor advice given. DO NOT TAKE THEIR ADVICE WHEN THERE IS ANY POSSIBLE RISK TO YOUR DATA.

They picked it up, took it home to Worthing with them, digged around inside and declared it needed more RAM and the system re-installing. They brought back it a few days later and it now runs like clockwork. The icing on the cake, is the fact they talked me through all the options without baffling me with technical descriptions. I also asked how much they would charge to completely sort the drives out and they very honestly advised me on a piece of software to buy and to do it myself - it was half the price. I can't see any authorised Mac dealer being cheaper than buying hardware straight from one of their own stores but in terms of repairs and solutions, these guys are great. It's true that a trip to eBay will probably save you money however, if you're stuck for time and need a solution pronto Cancom is a reliable a valuable resource. As they tend to over charge, I'd only recommend it as a last resort or if you really don't trust online bidding sites. They also offer computer repairs, so if your hard drive decides to go berserk it's worth giving it to Cancom's experienced staff. There's definitely something comforting about leaving your precious computer in the hands of someone with the apple logo on their shirt.
