High Country Automotive popped up as a reliable shop, so we called and Shawn said he could help us out immediately, even though it was getting close to closing. Despite it being a screw that had made a pretty big hole in the tire, Shawn took the time to put three layers on it so it would hold. Each layer required setting time in between, but he did not rush the process so the patch would hold properly. My husband and I were a little nervous thinking that since we were obviously from out of town and undoubtedly in a bind with no other options, that Shawn would charge us much more than would be the normal cost for such a tire repair. He did not do that, though. He charged us a more than reasonable price. He was pleasant to hang out with, and his beautiful dog, Freckles, provided us with affection and entertainment while we waited. Shawn got us back on the road and back to our vacation without breaking the bank. We would definitely go back to him if anything were to happen again when we return.

The owner of the shop not only answered, but dropped what he was doing and came straight to us to help - we later found out he was actually in the middle of buying a car in an another town ! He ran codes and we determined I didn't need work and we'd make it the rest of the way home, never once pushed a service of any kind. I offered to pay for his time and he waved me off several times. He's about as honest and genuine of a guy as you could ask for. We wish his shop was closer to us in Colorado.

The female general manager affirmed that the tool was in stock for $7.99. I asked her why the $5.99 price listed as the online price did not coincide with her quoted $7.99. She claimed that the 25% markup was the instore price and if I wanted the $5.99 price, I would need to purchase the item online and pick up the part instore. I attempted to purchase the part, and it refused to complete the purchase cited an issue that the Baxter Auto Parts #37 did not have the part in stock. I drove from home 6 miles to discuss the issue with the counter gentleman with a beard. He went to the back and produced the part, I shown on my iPhone the attempted purchase and returned result that the purchase WAS NOT completed because the part was not shown to be in stock. He claimed that they would not match the $5.99 online purchase and I would have to pay the additional 25%. I asked him where the general manager was and he told me she was in the office in the back. I told him I would purchase the part at Amazon online since I was an Amazon Prime member and would receive the part in 2 days. I was clearly gaslit by the store manager who obviously marked the item as out of stock so I couldn't pick it up instore at the reduced online price. The folks in the store are clearly disingenuous and do not have the customer best interests in mind. There were no other customers in the store, like there are at NAPA several miles down the road. They closed once before and if they continue to conduct business with customers like they currently do I suspect this will eventually close again. I'm new to the area and having no knowledge on snow tires it was something I really needed guidance on. Mitzi is a great resource to this business. She answered all my questions and was very patient and knowledgeable about everything. I'm very skeptical when it comes to auto places because I always feel like if you're not versed in mechanics someone will find a way to make you spend more than you need to spend. This was not the case at all. I'm pretty sure I'm spending a little bit more than some discounted places but the service is well worth the cost. Mitzi set me up with the best tires she thought I would benefit the most from and gave me a fair price. She set me up with an appointment the same week and also was very pleasant and professional to meet. When I came in for my appointment, she made me feel like I was her best customer and got it going right away. She gave me an estimated time of 1 hour and let me know I can wait at the shop or come back. She would text me as soon as the work was done if I wasn't around. It took less than an hour and I was even able to enjoy a nice breakfast sandwich at Josie's while I waited. The pleasant surprise was that they offer a 3% discount for anyone that pays with cash or a check. Which is great because it helps them with credit transactions fees and they give their customers the opportunity to pay with a better option. What a great business and service. Josh and his wife got us the parts that we needed for the repair, gave us a ride back to Bend for a rental car, and had the complete differential ordered, delivered, and replaced, along with an oil change within a week and allowed us to drive back to Idaho after the family gatherings.
