I have passed by this restaurant so many times, my family and I decided to finally dine here. We were immediately greeted and taken to a table. The chips and salsa were really good. We all ordered the nachos which were fully loaded. The nachos were really good, great portion size and the ingredients were fresh. There is a small parking lot and street parking available. Our server was great. Highly recommend

Family night out. 1st time here. Mexican food. Servers were really attentive. Wait time was not to long to be seated or before you got your food. We all got beef nachos and everyone was pleased with their order. The place was Mexican design with low lighting.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Birmingham. Highly recommend the grilled Baja Fish Tacos and the bbq chicken quesadilla My husband gets the Taco Salad and the Zapnin with steak add queso

I've heard about this place from all my Chelsea coworkers. I was in the area, so I decided to check it out. I ordered the street corn and the Zapnin - overstuffed chimichanga. The street corn was okay. It had good taste, but overall, it didn't have an authentic flavor to me. There was a bit too much aioli sauce too. The chimichanga was good. A big portion that came with all the toppings. I also enjoyed the house made red and green tomato salsas.

Decent lunch, but not the best Mexican food in town. Portions are decent (the soup could be a whole meal), Mexican corn was fresh and well-seasoned and the rice was tasty, but other ingredients seem a bit stale - diced chicken was dry, and blue tortilla strips for the soup lacked fresh crunch. Service was good, and drinks were refilled. The dining room is large with tables well spaced-out, and there's a separate bar area and outdoor tables. Pricing is standard for the area, and won't break the bank. I might try it again at some point, but wouldn't go out of my way.

Yep. Dead bug in my son's steak fajitas. Alarming how many reviews are about bugs in the food.

Cuban Quesadilla, blue corn nachos with no chicken, street corn, queso

Great little lunch spot! We had to run to Lamb's Ear for a gift and decided to pop in for lunch. We had the original queso, I had the blue corn nachos without chicken and street corn, and my husband had the Cuban quesadilla. The queso was a bit spicier than we were expecting (we don't handle spicy well), but everything was very tasty. We are outside, and had a wonderful time just relaxing on our day off. We popped into a couple of other shops within walking distance afterwards.

I'm a bit torn because I felt this place was great but my fellow revelers (aka my husband and…read moreinlaws) felt the service was off. For my part, I thought the cocktail I had was fantastic. My husband and FIL liked theirs too. My MIL felt there was barely any alcohol in hers but I cannot confirm. We did have a hiccup with the bill being completely wrong (and we were overcharged twice) but it was all settled. There were not very many people at the bar for a Friday night. But perhaps it's a more late(r) night place. We are all geriatric in our party (sort of). I didn't mind and it seemed to be picking up when we were leaving. Overall decent, but maybe I miss Pale Eddie's just a bit.

Sloan's Bourbon Bar never misses. The night I went, they were hosting a WhistlePig tasting, and it…read morewas such a great experience. I ordered the featured Old Fashioned for the evening along with a WhistlePig flight, both were excellent. The Old Fashioned was smooth, balanced, and exactly what a bourbon lover hopes for. One thing I really appreciate about Sloan's is that they host tastings almost weekly (or very often), and they're great about posting details on their social media so you always know what's coming up. It makes the experience feel curated and intentional. The service is always amazing; knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly passionate about bourbon. And the atmosphere? Grown and sophisticated. It's the perfect spot for a date night, a business meet-up, or just a refined night out if you appreciate a good pour. If you love bourbon and want a polished, elevated experience in Birmingham, Sloan's is the place

In my opinion, El Royale is basically a higher-level Chuy's. It's more upscale, with a much more…read moreromantic atmosphere, low lighting, and a great cocktail menu. The food is good, but I'd describe it as more Tex-Mex than traditional Mexican. The menu is somewhat limited, but I usually go more for the drinks, chips and salsa, and maybe some queso. I've had the chimichanga, which was pretty good, and on my most recent visit I had the steak and chicken fajitas. They were good and had plenty of flavor, although the portion was smaller than what you'd typically get at a traditional Mexican restaurant. Where El Royale really stands out to me is the atmosphere and cocktails. I've had the Party Vixen, which I really liked. It had a great flavor and reminded me somewhat of a gimlet. I've also tried the Flaming Royale, which was fine, but the flaming lime definitely makes it a fun presentation. The ambience is probably my favorite part of the restaurant. It's dimly lit, intimate, and very romantic, making it a nice spot for drinks or a date night. They do seem to get pretty busy on weekends. I went on a Sunday once and didn't have too long of a wait, but on another Sunday they only had bar seating available, so I'd recommend making a reservation if you want a table. A couple of things to know: El Royale is cashless, and while there is plenty of street parking in the area, you may have to walk a bit depending on when you go. If you don't want to deal with parking, I'd recommend using the valet. Overall, I think El Royale is a good choice if you're looking for a more upscale Tex-Mex experience with a romantic atmosphere and interesting cocktails. I personally go more for the drinks and atmosphere than the food, but I've enjoyed what I've ordered.

High end Mexican??? Plants, a valet and high end prices do not mean good food. The tacos were…read moredry, the enchiladas bland, as was the salsa. Then there was the thumping. I think it was meant to be music - but there were no words or instruments other than thump, thump, thump - LOUD thumps, thumps, thump the entire time we were there. Stick to the little Mexican restaurant on the corner...better food, better prices and no thumping.
