An oldie but a goodie.. One of the first Lao restaurants to pop up in Fairfield creating this area to be a hub for Lao cuisine. They keep it simple and traditional here with the usual Laotian fare and they do it pretty tantalisingly well! My mouth waters just thinking of of the spicy pungent flavours... It's an acquired taste but I can say that if I were on death row my last meal request would be a spicy Som Tum and Lao sausage.
If you love your chilli and an amalgamation of sour, salty, spicy and sweet U will love Laotian cuisine.
My recommendations:
Som Tum: shredded ow paw salad with smashed cherry tomatoes and fermented crab. The textures, freshness and combination of all base flavours make this a definite staple and perfect accompany to all the grilled meats on offer
Lao Sausage: wonderfully soft and slightly chewy bit crisp on the outside. Hints of lemon grass and Asian herbs
Ox Tongue: grilled to perfection, thinly crisp with a succulent centre ready to soak up the salty spicy dipping sauce
Chicken Feet Salad: sounds a little horrid but once you get past the whole chicken feet thing you'll find a refreshing, flavoursome and textural salad that will leave you with a new view of chicken feet.
To accompany all this get a mini bucket of sticky rice to go with your meal, that's how the Lao do it!
Ambience here is a little kitsch which denotes why it's 4 and not 5 stars but we're here for the food not the ambience. read more
