Now normally I'm a wine drinker, but one thing stands out from my recent visit: the Cherry wine spritzer! It's a super sweet cherry wine, but you can taste it either with dark chocolate kisses or as a spritzer. I swear the spritzer tasted very similar to a cherry soda! I enjoyed all the wines they had to offer and especially liked their Riverside Red. I also had a glass of their Chatauquablumchen which is a semi-sweet catawba blush wine. I normally don't drink that much semi-sweet, but it just seemed to go along with the beautiful day and the amazing gardens! So many tulips! I wish my tulips looked that good! I could see the gardens being a perfect setting for any kind of photography. The interior of the building is gorgeous with tall wine racks and draped lighting. You can even go up a steep staircase to sit at a couple tables tucked away up there. The winery is right down the road from the river so you also get great views while wandering the gardens. read more

I stumbled across this winery by sheer luck after leaving a nearby park. It was the beauty of the exterior landscape that drew me in. Spring flowers blooming everywhere, adorable fairytale like garden seating scattered all around. Absolutely beautiful. Then I walked around the front side of the property and asked a young associate if they were pet friendly, because my dog was with me on my walk. He said they were pet friendly and that they even had treats that they give out. Then he directed me to the counter. The inside of the winery is absolutely charming from top to bottom, with intimate tables inside and walls of wine and flavored vodka as well. Mulligan was the name of the associate that helped me pick out a glass of wine. He selected a Pinot Grigio. It tasted crisp and was perfect for a sunny day. He offered a cup of water for my dog and gave me a treat to feed to my dog. I sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful setting, and also met the nicest people who were doing the same. What a happy find on a day that I only expected to enjoy a walk with my dog. I'll never forget this wonderful experience. Sweet and knowledgeable staff as well. I highly recommend. read more

Excellent wines This winery is located in towand own by the river. We tasted many wines. They were all very good. Our favorite wines were Cranberry Grande, Traminette, and Chautauquablumchen. The Chautauquablumchen is the only wine I have ever liked from the Catawba grape. The Traminette had a fruity taste but not to sweet for my taste. The lady who helped us with our tasting was very friendly. This winery is one of the wineries on the Indiana Wine Trail. read more

Wow! Talk about a wonderful find. We were driving through town on our way else where and saw a beautiful garden that caused us to take a detour. The master gardener here is talented beyond belief. Years of planning and caring have created a mysterious, romantic, curious outdoor space. We were wowwed. Then we figured out we were at a winery, too. Thrilled it was open on a Sunday, we had excellent sampling service. The server was very informative about the wines and funny, to boot. If you live in the area and haven't been to this gem of a place, then you are missing out! Walking in just days before Christmas is like walking into Santa's guest house. Holiday decor through out and cheerful staff working about, ready to assist with whatever you need. I had the pleasure of talking with the sisters working the wine tasting station and they kept us laughing and tasting some of the best wines. From dry to sweet and everything in between. People walk freely along the narrow passages through the sea of Christmas trees in awe and amazement at the detail and time spent creating such a wonderful holiday event. I'm not a wine drinker, but walked out with 4 bottles. The area is quaint and peaceful. Parking fills up fast but no worries a little walking never hurt anyone. I visited Lanthier's retail side around the holidays, and found myself happily smothered by creatively decorated Christmas trees, big and small, artistic and comical, in every nook and cranny of the building. Lanthier does the Festival of Trees in a big way for a small space, and capstones it with their famous Rudolph Red, a sweet wine meant to be mulled. We enjoyed a cup of mulled wine in one of their cozy booths upstairs. It's a popular wine that goes fast around the holidays, and we were lucky to drop in during the workday when it wasn't too crowded, so if you're ever visiting, be sure to drop in earlier in the day if you can. You can always carry out, but it's a great opportunity to have a glass while you're there. read more

We went to the chocolate feast on Saturday and brought two friends. It was fantastic. So much fun. Grace stopped by our table to chat. Such a gracious host. Go next year if you get a chance. Beautiful gardens abound at this establishment. It's a small space but wow do they do a lot with it. So many plants and flowers and little nooks to sit and sip your wine. Very nice. The tastings here are FREE so I knew me and Lanthier were gonna be besties :) I tired a few different ones, and the woman was very informative on what wines they had and steered me towards the ones that I enjoy drinking, Pinot's, Cab's, etc. Some were good and some were eh. I did buy two bottles, one red and one white. My mom, not a wine drinker or drinker at all, for that matter, ended up buying a bottle too. It was a cherry wine that was sweet and to her likening. They do not serve food or snacks here but you are allowed to bring your own and enjoy it with your wine. It's a very nice winery and I recommend checking it out if you're ever in the area. This is a small family run operation and we were impressed by the nice selection of wines they offer. If you enjoy wine make sure you allow sufficient time to do a tasting. We like white wines so we tasted several before we made our selections. The prices were reasonable and they also have all the accessories, nicknacks, glasses, openers, etc. They also have a nice little garden area and on a nice day you should take the time to stroll around and enjoy. Also, be warned the step to enter the tasting room is a hazard, and I nearly fell, my guess is it doesn't meet code and this place is not handicap accessible. Will never go back. read more

We stopped at the winery after a tour of the Lanier Mansion. My husband was more of a fan as he enjoys the sweeter wines. We did purchase bottles of Riverview White and Riverview Red. The clerk was somewhat knowledgeable and friendly. The winery was doing a lot of painting and maybe remodeling so it seemed a bit in disarray. The building is a wonderful old brick structure that apparently took quite some time to remodel. The walls are covered with wine racks but it a shame that they could not make a better presentation of the internal brick walls. There appears to be an amazing garden surrounding the wine tasting rooms. I'd love to see a kiosk that sold crackers, cheese and salamis in the summer. Purchase a bottle of wine, some snacks and enjoy watching the world go by on the Ohio. read more

I love Madison and the historic look of all the buildings. The last time we were here it was during Chautauqua (art & wine festival) we were not able to go in the tasting room. The gardens are beautiful and the brick lined culverts stand out to add that historic touch. The path takes you through the gardens and around the back of this 18th century building. Watch your step walking in. I was so interested in looking around at everything and all the twinkling lights I had to remind myself to step down. I'm not sure if the Christmas trees are always up or if they're just getting ready for the holidays early. For me it was a bit too much personally. Maybe if I'd been feeling better I could have handled it better but as it was I just kept thinking "I'm glad I'm not epileptic." My impression of the tasting room was tight & cramped with all the trees. I would have loved to have been able to see the floor to ceiling wine selves. Ok back to the wine. This is another winery located downtown within walking distance of most all the retail shops. The building is small in nature and doesn't handle many tasters well at one time. Inside you will find floor to ceiling racks of bottles of wines. The staff is very friendly and engaging. They have a large variety of wines - I'm sure you will find one to your taste. The best part about this winery were the Christmas trees. We went the day after Christmas, and they have a TON of themed Christmas trees. Very cool to walk around and check them out while sipping a tasting of the mulled wine. The mulled wine was pretty good, but otherwise, we weren't all that impressed. Not worth the drive unless you want to check out some cool trees. I could imagine forcing myself to buy a lackluster bottle of wine to enjoy during the spring or fall and sit outside in the garden or by the river. read more

This place was awful. The atmosphere was not very welcoming, it was cramped by the serving counter, with no seating on the first floor, the building was in distress, and so was I after I tried my first tasting. Their dry red, River Town Red, tasted like water from the Ohio River. No really, it tasted like vinegar. I must say that I have an appreciation for good wine, especially of the dry red variety, and this place cannot compete in this market. I'm no wine snob but you'd be better off buying any $15 bottle of red wine from your local Kroger store. read more

Best winery in Indiana that we have been to. The cranberry wine is pretty good. Rifleport Red steals the show though. It is like a fine CA zinfandel.
