We drove 55 minutes up 65 to get to our long anticipated visit to Stream Cliff Farm for our Spring plant buying and wine tasting and lunch at the tea room. First things first, we (4 of us) put our names on the tea room waiting list. Then we shopped for our gardens. I'd selected the plants I wanted to buy, and then it was time for lunch. Our name was next on the list. We stood waiting for the hostess when a pushy woman and two men climbed onto the porch in front of us. The woman insisted on being seated. The hostess explained that the kitchen was backed up and she couldn't seat them. Said woman loudly insisted that they 'only wanted to sit and they wouldn't be ordering anything'. A manager came out and the old woman tried to establish that a relationship existed with her and the owner. She insisted again that they be seated. They were, and immediately got wine, silverware and menus. All of this in front of us, the party that was standing waiting. At that point we said we were next on the list, but since they had not only been seated, but served before us we would leave without eating and without buying the plants we'd come to purchase. The kicker is that there were MANY seating choices outside in the shade that these people should have been directed to rather than being seated in front of us. And we left - never to return. We didn't even get an "I'm sorry." Addendum, all was not lost. We drove to a new-to-us restaurant in Seymour IN, and had great service and great food for much less than this would have cost! Mom & I made our annual trip up to Stream Cliff to get flowers for her garden as well as a little lunch. We went on a Saturday around noon. There were a few parking spaces open and we were able to get one. The resturant seemed pretty busy so we decided to go flower shopping before we ate lunch. We were able to find all the flowers we wanted (even some we didn't know we needed). Within 30minutes the crowd had cleared from the restaurant and we were able to sit down on the porch out front. Our waitress was friendly and tentative. We ordered their fresh ginger lemonade which was so refreshing. We also ordered the trio plate with 1 bird seed salad, 1 potato salad, and 1 chicken salad. The bird seed was my favorite! The restrooms were clean and spacious. The property itself is so beautiful. It is a great place to relax and enjoy sometime outside! read more

I have visited this place over the last 25 years. The food is always excellent. The birdseed pasta is one of my favorites. I also enjoyed the chicken salad on top of the pita chips. The quaint little restaurant is very comfortable. The fresh herbs and homemade food is something that keeps you coming back. I did get a piece of hummingbird cake to take home. I used to get this on the regular. It was over 15 years ago... It definitely did not taste the same. And for the nine dollars it was a small piece. This is worth the drive! The gift shop, plant shop, greenhouse, restaurant and winery are situated on a small farm with beautiful grounds. You could walk around and observe flowers for several hours. There is so much to see! This is a great place for a girls afternoon! It's almost an hour away from Louisville so I only get out there once in a while but its worth it. I always get the salad sampler with which you can choose 4 different salads (or their soup). This all comes with their seasoned pita chips. I love, love, love their pasta salad.. seriously one of the best I've had! There is also a winery, an antique store, greenhouses, and even a couple goats and donkeys! We drove from Indianapolis and walked up to the door and couldn't get in the winery. We are looking for another door and we see two tables full of people on the patio. We ask how to get in and they said they closed the doors early because they weren't busy. We got there a little after four and their hours are until 5. The one table told us they knocked on the door and a man sold them a bottle of wine. We tried to do that and no one came to the door. A few minutes later a man came out of the winery and saw us on the patio but just walked to his red GMC truck. The people at the patio table said that's the man. He jumped in his truck and turned the opposite way quickly. How unprofessional to close nearly an hour early because you aren't busy. It's a gorgeous day and there are already 6 people on the patio so we would have made 8 people in total in the small winery on a weekday. There were also quite a few people who stopped at the garden who could have been potential visitors to the winery. We have traveled a long way to get here and as I said very unprofessional especially since the man working there saw us standing on the patio and rushed off. There is no closing sign on the door. Although Yelp lists this as a winery, it is really a 7th generation family farm that has a tea house with food, a greenhouse, an antique shop, an event center....AND a winery! When I visited, there was live music playing in the barn as a pair of high school graduates were celebrating that afternoon. I had to park on the grass just to find a spot to check into the winery. The rustic little shop has a small tasting room where you get a great deal: the first 4 tastes are free, and all the subsequent ones you may want are $.50 each. They didn't have the largest selection in state, but they did have a nice sampling of the major varieties of wine as well as plenty of sweet fruity wines. I tried the Cabernet, the Merlot, the Chardonnay, and the Riesling, which I liked enough to pick up a bottle to go. Friendly service and very attentive. The counter is small so I think they know to keep folks with wine in their glass to keep from having a long wait to try anything. Well done even though it was busy! While on the grounds, you can buy chilled wines and can either enjoy them in the dining area inside the same shop or carry them out to the shaded patio (I believe there were folks sipping out there!) It's just out the front door, so it's really convenient. While at the farm, if you have time, take a walk through the quilt gardens that are to the south. The antique shop was closed during my visit, so I don't know if they had any treasures or not. And since I had just eaten elsewhere, I didn't stop in the tea house to check it out. Still, if you've made the trek to Commiskey to the farm, you might as well check the features out! I found Stream Cliff several years ago when I was doing a wine trail in Southern Indiana, and I've made it a point to stop by from time to time to check in and see how things are going. This really isn't a winery.. or a garden, or a tearoom.. it's a farm with a little bit of everything. My group of friends and I stopped in on a Saturday morning not too long ago. One of the people in our group is one of those people who can do just about anything craft-related that she sets her mind to. I knew she would love this place, so I was excited to show it to her. We first went into the winery and did a tasting, picking up a couple of bottles that weren't too sweet for us, and then went to explore the rest of the grounds. We couldn't get into the tearoom because they had a class going on, but we walked through the gardens and greenhouse. Everything was in bloom and the air had a fragrance of rain, fresh flowers and cut grass. Stream Cliff offers something for everyone. Check out their website for information on upcoming events and the wines in stock. If you've been during the summer, make sure you check it out in the fall - the winery has the fireplace going and it becomes a much different place! read more

This may be my new favorite winery. I know I've said that before but really this place has everything and probably more that I missed. Wine tasting, shopping, gardens, greenhouse, Farm market and even a restaurant. We got here 1/2 an hour before they opened at noon so we wandered the gardens. It took every bit of that half an hour to wander the extensive gardens, keep in mind this was late October so most was dead and dying. There were many others here this early as well. The tasting room was super warm & inviting with stained glass lights and a nice warm & cozy fire. Now the wine... I loved most everything I tried. Our favorites were Iron Hand (a dry red), Old Bo (semi dry red), Santa's secret recipe (secret red blend), and Pink Pig (sweet red) I absolutely love the artwork on the Pink Pig. It was drawn by the owner's granddaughter when she was around 5. All of their other wines have horse related names. The win for the day in my opinion was their wine punch which was their Old Bo and their spices that you can purchase and reuse over & over. Normally I struggle with mulled wine as I find them a tad chemically tasting for some reason. This will be a great addition to any holiday gathering we have. After our tasting we went to the restaurant. I have to say I now know why people were there so early to get in line at the restaurant. It was amazing. Home cooking with an elegant herbal touch. From my eavesdropping I could tell they have a lot of regulars who love this place and come back for all the special events as well. My wife had the meatloaf special & I had a burger no bun. That's a simple statement for what we actually had. My burger with cheese lettuce tomato and onion with a choice of sauce. I chose spicy mustard. It came with a choice of side & herb chips. I chose the red potato salad. I wish I'd taken a picture of the food because it was beautiful. Every bite was a experience in flavor combinations that made my mouth happy. I'd like to describe the meatloaf special but I was to enraptured by my meal. Over all I can't wait to go back and was a little sad to have to leave. read more

I love having this cute garden restaurant and winery right in my home town. I definitely don't get to come here enough since I've moved away. They have THE BEST chicken salad. I love the addition of dill. It makes it tastes so light and fresh. If they have blueberry or blackberry tea make sure you try that as well. Before you leave make sure you stroll through the shops and gardens and the winery. They offer tastings. I joined a friend at Stream Cliff Farm this past weekend for an arts & crafts fair. About an hour drive outside, the farm with its numerous buildings features a wine tasting room, a cafe, a couple of shops, and of course, a barn. Due to the special event, there was a 90 minute wait for the restaurant. So, I made due with the only vegetarian option at the outside tent, their signature birdseed salad and a lemonade. They serve this pasta salad in the cafe with most sandwiches - which are mainly meat. It featured broccoli, raisins, and some other veggies. I found it to be very sweet, almost as if it had sugar added, and an odd combination of ingredients. The lemonade, however, was delicious! We then wondered around the greenhouse which had a great array of plants and flowers. I wish I had a place for herbs because they had a wonderful selection of heathy plants at a good price. The various shops had mainly country crafts like you'd find in Brown County Indiana or Gatlinburg, TN. Some of the buildings had high steps which would be difficult for my mom and other visitors with mobility issues. We ended our visit at the cool, air conditioned wine tasting room. They let you taste 4 varieties for free and charge a minimal fee for extras. I tried a range of their whites and decided to have a cup of the strawberry wine lunch which was a hit with the room. It was fruity and refreshing, a bit sweeter than expected. Stream Cliff Farm is five stars for many folks. For me, I might make the drive out again for a girls' daytrip to enjoy the surroundings, but can't see going back for a meal or the wine. read more

This restaurant is very proud of its racist history of confederacy. We had a nice server, but certain employees gave stares which we did not appreciate. They celebrate this general John Hunt Morgan as if he did something good...it's embarrassing really. Also, their food is hardly cooked anywhere but the microwave. Chances are if you're eating a meal there, it's cooked with love on a few minutes. Don't bother going here if you care how your food is cooked and the history behind who they love so much that they sell memorabilia. read more

I'm still slightly wincing at giving 3 stars when the tea room deserved 2 at most, but I'm giving 3 because of the atmosphere. A dear friend and I wished to escape the hubbub of our teeming metropolis and sought respite in the southeastern back country of Indiana. Though the scenery was quintessential Indiana--an unassuming historic property cushioned by bright blue skies & white puffy clouds, contrasted against tall waving stalks of corn--the hospitality at the tea room was not. The woman who finally deigned to take our order after 20 full minutes without so much as a hello or a cup of water, was clueless, rude and self-absorbed. Granted, the place was packed, but it's 2013 people, who isn't aware of how much latitude you buy with a friendly 'Hello, I'm slammed and will be with you soon as I can!' Instead, we were ignored...until the gal who was supposed to be our waitress came over to ask if we minded if she left a tray (which she had just been using to deliver drinks to another table) on our table. She never did come back for it. I won't drone on with other details, just know that a Sunday afternoon may not be an ideal time for this place. And! despite the down (Old Indiana) home feel, a trip to the tea room will leave you feeling like you've had far better experiences at corner hot dog stands on a bustling NYC street corner. The many plants and flowers, butterflies, hens, goats and all--against the setting of the rustic buildings and gardens are lovely, no question. But lordy mercy, bring all the patience you've got and borrow some more if you're heading for the tea room. read more

Get there before 12 for lunch or you will be waiting. There is outdoor & indoor seating. The service is friendly & quick. We had our food in no time after ordering. The helpings are generous. We ordered chicken salad, tuna salad, & seafood salad sandwiches. They were served on crescent rolls with lettuce & tomato. We also had potato salad, pasta salad, & cheesy vegetable soup. Kettle chips accompanied our sandwiches. The specialty tea was blackberry. Everything was delicious. Then there were the huge desserts-blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream, bourbon bread pudding with whipped cream, & a lemon dessert. You should consider sharing these. We had a very nice trip. We love this place for the great home cooked lunches. They have now added candlelight dinners and a large BBQ concert on the farm. The restaurant is quaint and the sandwiches are very good. The sides and salads are fresh made. We love the turkey panini and the pulled pork, however the highlights are the homemade desserts. My favorite is the cobbler which reminds me of the ones made by my Grandma. The teas and lemonade are refreshing. The winery is very good, but pricey. The only downside is the restaurant is closed in the winter, however limited sandwiches and soups are available in the winery. First rule ..don't put down your competition stating all US grapes is crap and calling CA Napa wine "babies, don't know anything about wine." Second rule.. know where your grapes are imported from. We were given a general answer of "everywhere". We also asked the basic question if their wine was aging in steel or oak barrels. Lady behind the bar didn't know and took a quess it was aged in steel barrels. They need more training. Maybe they should take a lesson from Napa. It took 45 minutes to an hour to be seated for lunch. When we ordered, they were apologetic that half the items we wanted were not available. What was available was okay. Only reason for a one star is because the grounds are really pretty. read more

She was bubbly, personable and informative about the wine options. All of the wines were quite good, and we bought some bottles to take home! The strawberry wine punch was delicious!
