Darryl is a dedicated, knowledgeable and talented landscape designer. We have a large backyard (about 6k square feet) that was empty or just weeds before. Darryl gave us four beautiful concepts (that he hand draws), and after we chose one, he was detail-oriented in planning out all the plants, plus electrical, irrigation, hardscape, and lighting details. As a plus, he came up with the idea to convert our old worn shed into a gazebo that is now a highlight visual feature. All our visitors now comment on how beautiful our backyard is, and our whole family enjoys spending time there.

Our landscaping project has finally finished. We hired Darryl as the architect and he worked with a landscaping company to carry out the entire project. He collected our initial requirements and came back with three plans. We quickly decided on one of them and iterated through a couple of times. We have redone the front yard, side yard and backyard (kept the existing swimming pool.) We now have a sustainable front yard with huge rocks with artificial grass that our neighbors told me how great it looked. The backyard is extended with travertine tiles, added a new BBQ kitchen island, a water feature, a huge shade sail and two feature walls to create an intimate entertaining space. We enjoy the whole backyard and its cozy ambience. We are very happy with the result and would highly recommend Darryl for any landscaping projects.

Darryl is the guaranteed right choice for any landscape project , professional, experienced and has the personality to go with all of this. Detailed and ready to make changes as your plans progress . Don't try to do this yourself no matter how many books you have read. When you are spending thousands of dollars do it right the first time. His landscape team which he recommend was the best and implemented Darryl plans exactly . They have worked with Darryl many years and this relationship made a huge difference. Project started well and most important ended well. Very pleased

I wanted to create a garden that would be a Zen like sanctuary as like so many of us, I find ourselves more at home. I interviewed a number of landscape designers and settled on Landscape Nirvana. I was so impressed with Darryl right off the bat. Within a short period of time he was able to understand my vision and take it to a whole new level. He is not only creative but highly knowledgeable on what plants will work in our climate and environment. He provided three renderings and nailed it the first time around. Super easy to work with, flexible and he takes enormous pride in his work which shows throughout my yard. The contractor he hired was equally impressive. They set expectations and met them all along the way and the foreman worked shoulder to shoulder with his workers vs showing up once and taking off. I highly recommend Landscape Nirvana for any landscape needs!

I've been wanting to have a Japanese style zen garden for a long time. Daryl helped to make my dream become true! He carefully took all my requests and made 3 proposals as wells plants recommendations. After finalizing the plan, he carefully picked the stone and set up a small rock fountain, which makes the garden looks more natural! Since the landscape was done, I've moved my working area next to the window to enjoy the view of my zen garden. It was a great experience working with Daryl and totally worth it!

The yard and fence project was done over a year ago, but I was rather busy at the juncture of changing jobs so I didn't write a review until now. The craftsmanship is very disappointing. Upon completion, the fence door won't open and close properly and the fence wall is leaning outwards. The person who did the task had to come back twice to fix issues. For the door, he attached a string across the corners to tighten the door and that string has to remain there forever. He did charge me for that tool and his gas. For the fence, he argued that the fault is with the post (a long piece of wood bought from Home Depot) and it is likely that the piece of wood was not completely dry so it gave away with the pressure from the inside. And for this he has "no fix". During the process I had a couple email communication with the owner Darryl. He replied to the first couple email during "his vacation" and never followed up on my request to have a phone call and come over to the site and take a look. I tried to be very objective here. I didn't keep any close-up pictures but with these you can see the gaps and distortions clearly. I won't recommend working with Landscape Nirvana.

    After

Darryl met with me right be shelter in place. He asked me what I wanted. Then he came back with 3 designs to choose from. I picked one with minor alterations. Then he got a a bid from a landscape construction company and I signed it. It took awhile before the work could be started but I am thrilled with the results. It may look a little barren because I went with drought tolerant but wait until next year when the plants fill out!

We just finished a pretty significant backyard redesign project with Darryl. It turned out amazing! From the beginning when I met Darryl, I could tell he is very thoughtful and detail oriented with his work. He showed us multiple options/designs based on our preferences, and did many iterations on the design as we went through the process. It was hard for us to visualize exactly how the yard would look, and Darryl helped walk us through that process very nicely. It included plant designs/locations, hardscape, irrigation and lighting. Once we finalized designs, Darryl helped us select a contractor based on needing several rock walls built on a sloped yard. The one we ended up going with had worked with Darryl before so we were confident they would be a good choice. I was worried that Darryl's involvement would stop once we locked in designs, but he acted as the part time project manager for the job once work started, as we on site multiple times to help direct rock placement, plant locations, and building the small waterfall that he designed. About 2.5 months later, the job is done and we are so happy! We highly recommend Darryl's landscape design services.

Our entire backyard renovation has just finished and we love our finished product! We can't wait to see it become even more beautiful over the coming years. When we first met with Darryl we had a general idea of what we wanted -- to add enhancements to our existing yard and also to create different looks with water conservation in mind. Darryl presented us with three great plans and we ended up combining two of them. The resulting design incorporated a curvilinear lawn area and a separate Zen garden. Darryl also added a rock river bed that we wanted and specified plants, trees and grass. Darryl supervised the construction and he even lifted and placed some stones himself personally to make them look just right in ideal spots. I am a visual and detailed person and I was always asking Darryl questions. I soon found out that Darryl had already thought out every facet of the installation and had taken care of all my questions. Darryl also introduced us to a great contractor. He and his crew worked hard, were conscientious, and cleaned up after each day's work. The quality of Darryl's work is exceptional. HIs designs reflect his professional design background with 10 years experience in the landscaping business. His projects are creative, intuitive and shows his vast knowledge of water conserving yet beautiful vegetations. He was prompt with his work but he also took a lot of time finding out what we wanted and was very patient when we weren't sure. He made suggestions that were always good. We can't say enough good things. A couple of my friends are already talking with his company to renovate their yards! We highly recommend Landscape Nirvana for any landscaping needs and I would not hesitate to call them with any work in the future.

The backyard Darryl created for us is absolutely transformative. Our yard went from being an overgrown jungle, to a beautiful space that our family can now safely enjoy. The landscapers Darryl recommended were wonderful. They we're highly motivated and quick to help us navigate any issues that developed during the project. I honestly couldn't be happier with how the project came out and would happily recommend Darryl to anyone.

This involved pouring over 1,500 sq. ft. of concrete, a large retaining wall, a patio deck, a new lawn, and a playground area. Here were some of the highlights of my experience: - Design Guidance: I relied heavily on Baltazar's experience and keen sense of design. His elegant hardscaping solution for the pool transition zones exceeded my expectations and tied the yard together perfectly. - The grading and drainage were very well done. Despite heavy rains, there was zero pooling; the rain gutters were routed directly into pipes beneath the concrete for a clean, streamlined look. - Smart Home Integration: All landscape lighting and irrigation were hooked up to smart-home enabled controllers for total automation and convenience. - The office staff was very responsive, addressing any concerns or follow-up questions usually within a single business day. I wanted the fix to last long term, not just hold me over for a year or two before another gopher invasion destroys our yard. Everything was extremely professional and delivered to contract specifications. We were extremely happy with the results. They had to move a portion of our fence to get the big equipment in but you wouldn't even know it had been moved because they were total pros putting things back. When we asked for additional scope of work (a French drain), they were quick to get back to me with a quote and incorporating the additional work didn't push out the timeline. All in all, highly recommend and we'll definitely use them again for our landscaping needs.

You never tell someone that's paying you $500 dollars to take your time and do a professional job to go inside. I should have told him to get the F off of my property and hired someone else. I would have been better off hiring men from Home Depot. Totally unprofessional, rushed the job, ruined a couple of plants and didn't give a shit how it looked, even after I showed the owner the damaged plants and all the broken branches only to find more as the branches dried out in the weeks to come. Huge thanks to Matt, Danny and the team.

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping…read more We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing "landscaping" from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she's great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. These guys do not mess around. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can't say the same for any of the other contractors we've worked with (and we're actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Danny, and Marcus offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking "if you step in that mud, you're going to lose a boot" type of rain). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn't easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. (South Bay had laid those out properly square to the driveway and house, as per our plan.) Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you'd know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you'd seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It's been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we're still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay Design and Landscaping for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you're looking for landscapers, these are your guys. (Special thanks to Matt and Danny for graciously handling my incessant "are you sure you didn't forget about such-and-such little detail?" questions and never once forgetting about any of the details, and also to Sergio for spending basically an entire Saturday morning troubleshooting what ultimately turned out to be a manufacturing issue with our pergola.)
