I called Landscape Solutions for help reforming my out of control, weed infested, small outdoor space. I live in a manufactured home park, but it is expected that we keep our spaces tidy and tasteful. Scott, Norka and the men on their team came in, cleaned up and created a peaceful, relaxing space for enjoying the outdoors and cozy gatherings. The clean up involved lots of weeding and removing dead shrubs and plants that weren't thriving. They pulled up artificial turf that had sprouted so many weeds it could have been mowed. They replaced the turf with a lovely gold toned gravel, easy to walk on and maintain. I have terraced levels topped by a wall at the back, and they groomed the potacarpus and filled in with drought resistant Salvia. They removed old mulch, put down new weed cloth, and replaced the mulch. I couldn't be more pleased. The work was done well and Scott worked within my budget. Norka is an artist with a gift for visual balance and tasteful use of space. They cleaned up the work area and left everything tidy. It was a joy to see the transformation. I highly recommend Landscape Solutions!

Paving stones need to be installed on ground next to newly installed wall.

In September 2024, I contracted with Scott C. McIntyre, the owner of Landscape Solutions to do landscaping work at my residence in Los Altos, Ca. The work consisted of replacing existing retaining walls and steps in my back yard and installing a new patio on an already flattened area on the hill in my back yard. Mr. McIntyre declared the work completed on November 4, 2024 although there remained issues with incomplete and substandard work and failure to adhere to rules imposed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). I have filed a complaint with the CSLB. I am listing some of the complaints in this review. ISSUES WITH WORK QUALITY - NON-CODE COMPLIANT, SUBSTANDARD, NOT COMPLETE 1. The Guard Rail over the lower retaining wall is not building code compliant. The most serious issue with the work that Landscape Solutions did was that the guard rail built over a retaining wall does not meet building code and is not child safe. A picture of the guard rail is shown in this review. Code dictates the maximum gap in the guard rail is 4 inches. The distance from the surface of the patio to the first horizontal slat above is approximately 19 inches. A child could easily fall from the surface of the patio to the bottom level. I emailed a picture of the completed retaining wall and guard rail to my city's Building Code Enforcement Division and inquired if it was building code compliant. A Code Enforcement Division representative replied with an email message (Client can provide the actual email message.). Following text is from the email message sent by Code Enforcement: "The rail needs to be 42" high and there needs to be a maximum of 4" between the horizontal rails. The fence as shown does not meet the standards and intermediate rails need to be added." -----End of quote from email message sent by city's Code Enforcement Division------- NOTE: ALLOWING A CONTRACTOR WHO DOES NOT KNOW THE BUILDING CODES TO BE LICENSED PUTS THE PUBLIC IN DANGER. 2. Incomplete and substandard work i. There are areas with no pavers, just dirt, adjacent to the lower retaining wall. Contractor fixed some but not all areas along the newly built lower retaining wall. A picture shows an example where paving stones need to be installed next to the retaining wall. ii. Gate not installed in lower retaining wall. The retaining wall that was being replaced had a gate. I called this to Mr. McIntyre's attention in a reply message to his message that the project was complete. He replied in an email message that he would replace the gate. Client can provide the actual email message. iii. In doing the work, Landscape Solutions workers moved items (e.g., wooden glider bench, other patio benches, chairs, patio table, an umbrella stand) from the flattened hill area to other parts of the back yard. I requested that the items be returned to their original locations. Mr. McIntyre, in an email message, agreed to do so. Client can provide the actual email message. This was not done. Returning items moved to their original location should be a standard part of Landscape Solutions clean-up work upon completion of a project. ISSUES WITH NON-ADHERENCE TO CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSE BOARD REGULATIONS In items 3 and 4 below, quoted text is from Contractors State Licensing Board publication "Contracting for Success". 3. Contractor did not give buyer a copy of the signed contract as CSLB requires. "Before any work is started, the contractor must give the buyer a copy of the contract signed and dated by both the contractor and the buyer." 4. On the day work began, Contractor asked for payment of $15,000 along with the signed contract. "Except for a down payment, a contractor can't demand or accept payment for work or materials until the work is actually done or the materials are delivered. The down payment may not exceed $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract amount, whichever is less." Contractor gave following reason why he asked for $15000 at start of project. Quote is directly from an email message he sent client. Client can provide the actual email message. Text of email message from Mr. McIntyre, in quotes: "My son is out of state at college and it is very expensive. My cash flow and bank account funds do not allow me to pay for your materials before delivery and pay my payroll in advance of getting paid by you if this is what the CSLB requires." --------End of quote from email message sent by Mr. McIntyre-------------- 5. Contractor made additional changes not in contract without a change order being added to the contract. Contractor then billed client for the unauthorized work. The Contractors State Licensing Board publication "Terms of Agreement A Consumer Guide to Home Improvement Contracts" states the following: "Extra Work and Change Orders become part of the contract once the order is prepared in writing and signed by the parties prior to the commencement of any work covered by the new change order."

I hired Scott and his team for removing concrete removal and leveling ground for an area of 600~700 sq. ft. The total weight of the concrete and dirt is about 3 ton. He assigned 2~4 men and finished the work in 2 days (for 6~7 hours each day). After the work was finished, he provided a detailed invoice of the time/cost calculation results. I feel the cost is reasonable, and I am satisfied with their performance.

Landscape Solutions removed weed infested ground cover and replaced with new dymondia plants. Very precise work!

This involved pouring over 1,500 sq. ft. of concrete, a large retaining wall, a patio deck, a new lawn, and a playground area. Here were some of the highlights of my experience: - Design Guidance: I relied heavily on Baltazar's experience and keen sense of design. His elegant hardscaping solution for the pool transition zones exceeded my expectations and tied the yard together perfectly. - The grading and drainage were very well done. Despite heavy rains, there was zero pooling; the rain gutters were routed directly into pipes beneath the concrete for a clean, streamlined look. - Smart Home Integration: All landscape lighting and irrigation were hooked up to smart-home enabled controllers for total automation and convenience. - The office staff was very responsive, addressing any concerns or follow-up questions usually within a single business day. Props to Gladys and Dahlia! Highly recommended!

We ran into some difficulties at the start due to a last-minute cancellation by Matt and some unresponsiveness through email. When we voiced our concerns, Matt really stepped up to ensure our concerns were met. He immediately refunded us for the cost of the service, and he offered to meet with us at no cost. We ended up taking a 30 minute video chat with him, and Matt was super helpful in explaining various options. When we realized that his typical project scope was a bit bigger than what we wanted to spend, Matt was very gracious in connecting us with other contractors and designers. Despite the early hiccups, we got the sense that Matt is a genuine guy who is more interested in doing the right thing rather than making quick buck. We really appreciate his thoughtfulness, and we will definitely consider engaging with his services again in the future!

The virtual call was perfect for our project, we provided Matt with pictures of the backyard space as well as a video walkthrough. He took this information as well as our preferences for how we envisioned the space to be used to come up with a 2D design. He also recommended materials and local contractors. We contacted one of the contractors a few weeks later and finished the project with them in about 2 months. I highly recommend the Virtual Consultation for smaller projects with Matt. His feedback for our questions and experience with similar projects were very beneficial to starting this backyard project for us.

They ruined and broke numerous branches while admitting that these plants are very delicate. They rushed the job that should have been at least two hours and finished in one hour. I should have stopped them after the owner told me to go inside and they will let me know when they were done. You never tell someone that's paying you $500 dollars to take your time and do a professional job to go inside. I should have told him to get the F off of my property and hired someone else. I would have been better off hiring men from Home Depot. Totally unprofessional, rushed the job, ruined a couple of plants and didn't give a shit how it looked, even after I showed the owner the damaged plants and all the broken branches only to find more as the branches dried out in the weeks to come. He tells me the plants are delicate, but yet they didn't treat them that way. I will never hire this unprofessional company again and recommend that you don't hire them either. They have plenty of help to do a good job, but refuse to do so. This was a total rip off job to the tune of $500. I'm so sorry I hired this clown to do this job, every time I look at what they did it makes me sick and pissed that I didn't throw them off my property and paid them nothing. I've waited weeks to write this review, in hopes that the job would look better, but it doesn't. Thanks a lot, KAY GREEN LANDSCAPING FOR DOING A SHITTY JOB AND TELLING ME TO GO INSIDE. We ran into a few unexpected issues during the project, but Young was always upfront about what was happening and communicated his solutions clearly. His recommendations were thoughtful and turned out great. I would definitely use Kay Green again for any future landscaping projects and will happily recommend them to family and friends!

The landscaping at my home had been redone several years ago, but sadly, has been neglected. I needed to prepare it for a life celebration for my husband who has recently passed. The integrity, the passion, and the willingness to, as he put it, "treat it like it was his own property", was outstanding. I have since signed them on to be my regular gardeners. Our place needed a complete redesign as we had just remodeled the house and we had let our grass die a few years ago. We hired a landscape designer who came up with a great plan of native plants and a backyard patio. She strongly recommended Jesus who she's worked with a long time. Jesus gave us feedback on the design including some aspects which might be challenging, so we altered the plan based on his expertise. His team worked efficiently. Everything happened on time, so all the milestones were completed exactly when expected. There were some issues discovered with the existing drainage after the work started, but Jesus gave us reasonable suggestions for altering the design to come up with a solution. This wasn't just a simple planting job. Both the front and the back needed to be graded, and proper drainage needed to be installed. We used pavers to create a small patio in the front yard and a larger one in the back yard. Jesus gave us great input on what would be the best kind of tile to use for this. We also needed some concrete work done on the step down to the patio. We also had them build custom vegetable beds designed specifically for the shape of our space. In the end, they finished on time, and there were no cost overruns. They had the expertise to deal with all the unknowns we encountered with reasonable solutions. I would recommend Zazueta Landscaping to anyone in the area, particularly if you have a challenging project that requires a team with expertise.
