Had a Kichler landscape lighting installed in May 2023. Work was done as expected and in good working order. Issue has come in the last two years three lights have gone out with service requests called into be fixed/repaired, Even though the light fixtures are under warranty for 15 years, an excessive charge of $150 is charged from this company to come out and fix. You can see this gets pretty expensive after a while. We understand there should be some type of charge for labor, but you would think for an existing customers there would be sometime of discount. Before going with any company get the details about their warranty. We will be letting folks know about this company's warranty charges. read more

While in past years Darrin has done good work on my holiday lighting but this year he said he would install our lighti in late October but it is now November 19th and nothing has been done. I had this company do work for me in 2019 in front of house. I put off upgrading my backyard lighting until now. I'm very pleased with how it looks, and I look forward to low/no maintenance in the backyard space. Jay, then Josh Aaron and Richard were excellent to work with. Landscape Illumination fixed our old Malibu lights last year by putting in better bulbs and fixing old wiring. We had them out this spring to fix the winter damage to existing bulbs and fixtures. Jay took my call and as promised, had Wes call me with a day and time he would arrive. Wes was very personable and professional. Beware Veterans... I am a military veteran who honorably served our country for 20 years and 28 days during war and peace... On August 19, 2022 Landscape Illuminations installed lights at our home in Winfield, Indiana... At first, the company attempted to tell us it was two years ago which was incorrect... It was within a year of being installed and were under warranty... We called to have them checked out and two needed to be replaced... My wife was told over the phone the owner would take care of it... Again, at no time was a service charge mentioned... They came out and replaced two bad lights... Nobody too include, the office said there would be a service charge of ($150.00)... The next day, they emailed an invoice to us for a service charge that was never mentioned up front for the $150.00... Had they been transparent, I would have had no issues with paying it... When my wife called, she got the song and dance act which I did not appreciate... I then called and got a very rude office person named Irena who needs to learn customer service... She said she would have to talk the owner, (quite possibly her husband with the rudeness she displayed) and within seconds, they still are pushing a $150.00 service charge! Communication is everything and this company doesn't get that... They will never get this veteran's business again! read more

So, we purchased a new home a few months back that has landscape lights that turn on & off automatically. Last week, we noticed that they were not turning on. We did not even know where the control panel for the landscape lights was located. We went through some paperwork that was left and found an estimate that was prepared about 10 years ago. It was not signed by the homeowner, but we were assuming that since they kept it, this must be who put the lights in. My husband left a message for Landscape Illumination. On April 27, 2021, my husband received a prompt text from Darrin (we now know Darrin Selking is the owner) wanting to schedule a time to come out. A time was never scheduled, so my husband sent another text and it was at that time the owner informed us that he already had a technician that was going to be coming to our house that afternoon. We were pretty put out that an appointment was not set. I scrambled to make sure that I was here to let somebody in because Darrin said they needed to access the garage. We were hoping the box would be on the exterior of the house and this way they could just service it from the outside. A very nice technician by the name of Zach showed up that afternoon. He asked if I knew where the box was and I said, "I am thinking it's in the garage because Darrin said you need to get in there". Sure enough, he went right to it and I felt like a complete idiot because all that it needed was for the GFCI to be reset. He was literally in & out of my garage in 2 minutes. If I had known where to look for the box, we could've very easily pushed the reset button. To not make it a complete waste of time, Zach took the timer panel and reset it because the timing was all off. I never signed anything. Just thanked him for his help and he left. The very next day on April 28, 2021, my husband receives an invoice for $95 for a service call by email. My husband texted Darrin & asked if the lifetime warranty included the service visit (again, the unsigned estimate was the only piece of paperwork we had for the system and it indicated that there was a lifetime warranty with a 15 year warranty on the bulbs). Instead of replying back and informing us that the warranty does not cover the cost of a service call, Darrin 's response was "people don't work for free". We were stunned at his response. We still are. Maybe he's angry because of all of the lawsuits and civil torts that have been filed against him & his company in Porter County, IN over the years? (Check out the IN online docket. It's public record) How are we supposed to know if we don't ask? We just purchased the home and were not here for the estimate or the install. If you look at the website for Landscape Illumination out of Valparaiso, Indiana, you will see they advertise maintenance packages. For all we know, the previous homeowner could've added one of those on within the last year. Right away Mr. Selking just assumes that we are trying to weasel our way out of paying for a service visit. That is so NOT the case and that is so NOT who we are. I am sending the $95 payment to Mr. Selking today because we owe it. We called for help and they provided it, but you can be sure it will be the last red cent that he sees from us. Not because his products are not quality, not because his technician was bad, but because of his rude and ignorant comments. I am posting the texts as proof of just how nasty he became from a simple question and you can decide for yourself if you want to deal with this person. Reading other reviews on Google and yelp, confirms that we are not the only ones to feel his wrath. I'm sure he's very nice when he's taking your money. He talks in his text about respecting peoples time and resources. Where was his respect for our time when he scheduled his technician to come out and did not even inform us what day/time he would be here? By the way, my husband still has not received a return call back to address his rude comments. It's funny too, because we had called this company when we first moved in about putting up a holiday display for us, but we decided to hold off since some family came down with Covid & we couldn't have a normal gathering. We are hoping to do it this year, but Landscape Illumination will not be putting that display up for us. read more

Met Darrin via an estimate and also noticed he worked out at the same gym I go to. They put in front lites on our house and most recently two additional lites on two trees in our back yard area. Landscape Illumination did a wonderful job installing RGB LEDs around the perimeter of our home. There has been some occasional glitches with some circuits, but i just call and the installer is onsite within 36 hrs to fix the issue. We get compliments all the time on how cool the RGB lighting is. You can select 3 colors from literally hundreds. and there are a dozen or so preset light blinking patterns to choose. So you can instantly decorate your house for any occassion with a few taps on your phone. read more

We used this company three ago. I work for a real estate owner who wanted his office building decorated for Christmas and decided to use the company for his own personal home as well. $4,000 later, this company's display looked like we had a string of lights and a Santa sign that we could have bought at a Walmart or Menards. It was pathetic and embarrassing. The next year we told the company we would not be a returning customer and asked for our lights and Santa display back. They brought the lights over without the owner understanding that he needed to take them off their truck that minute. The owner said not right now I have to find a place to store them and their delivery guy said fine I'll come back. He also let the owner of the company know that he could put the lights up at a far less cost than the company he was working for! Well the guy never came back and we never did get our $4,000 product that year. Over the last few years our company has called on behalf of the owner to try to get the return of the lights and the Santa display. This past summer I tried again. A secretary for the company in Valporasio told me that we signed off on a release form not wanting the display back. I was shocked and dismayed and asked her to please fax the release form that we signed. She quickly faxed over two forms with fraudulent signatures! When I told her that this is fraud, these signatures were undoubtedly not the owners, she became flustered and did say she would return the product we paid for,(they had to find them in their warehouse). The last time I called was this past month, (October), and was told we would be getting them delivered within a few weeks. Still nothing! This company is a ripoff. And I would caution anyone who is considering using them for any landscape design work or holiday lighting! read more

People who come visit me at night no longer have to fear losing their vehicle in the woods that is my yard. Living on a heavily-wooded lot, with a long winding driveway, that's always been a problem. Not anymore. I tend to be very particular about design and my home and well, everything, but for this project my wife and I decided to let the professionals do their thing. They know landscape lighting. I do not. So Darrin came out, we talked about some ideas, and we let his creative expertise get to work. His estimates came back within the range we were hoping for, and we even decided to forward with adding on the backyard to the project as well. What he came up with was a beautiful and clever system for illuminating our home. The difference is truly magical and epic. But here are a few things to note that I think are also important to say. I made tweaks. I can't help it. I'm kind of insane about my house. I wanted another light over there. I wanted a couple of things changed here. I wanted symmetry. Darrin rolled with it and was totally professional and accepting and happily made my changes, so in the end we were happy as could be. Then about a month after the project was done, one of the lights got dim. Turns out it might've been a faulty fixture. Nothing anyone could've planned for. But I e-mailed Darrin and he had his crew come out and swap it. 10 minute job. I watched them do it. The installation guys are great too. They worked with me, listened to my suggestions and requests and made everything perfect. Not to mention, the fact that they're super incredibly skilled at doing what they do. I sure don't know how to climb up a tree and install down-lighting. But they do, and that's impressive. Thanks for a beautiful job! read more

Horrible Customer Service. This company will rip you off!! They charged me for a service call of $85 when I was quoted a fee of $85 to $100 for the service call and to replace a faulty wiring in a outdoor light fixture. Instead of fixing the fixture the technician opted to put a bulb in the light fixture. I called the owner about the fixture not being fixed, he never returned my phone call. I later reached him, with a invoice in my hand for services not rendered, when he answered the phone two days later. He went on to tell me the faulty fixture was my faulty and the invoice amount is due because they came out. This company is horrible and I wouldn't recommend them to my enemy. read more

This owner is completely unprofessional. Do not use for holiday lighting unless you have very deep pockets.Once you purchase the items year after year they charge a high price to redecorate a 1/3 of what you initially spend. Then when you ask for your items back to decorate yourself or have someone else do it because of the ridiculous price they destroy your items. Also, spent half the season waiting for them to come back and fix lights I had lights out all over the place until Christmas Eve they finally fixed it. Also, I have never had new Christmas items look so bad after 2 years especially for the price you pay. And they come from high end retailers such as Frontgate. Our items upon return have cut wires and basically are useless. It is such a shame the owner scams people. Talks bad about other companies to prospective customers and if you tell him something he doesnt like he walks away. I think someone can have a successful company without putting other companies down and scamming people. Unfortunately, he is arrogant and in a business that does not have alot of competition for the holiday season. I even know the businesses he has seasonal business with and have stopped frequenting them as well. He is just bad news oh and if you have problems good luck trying to get in touch with him. Just ask his employees. He doesnt have many that stay with him. They will tell you. read more

This company installed outdoor lighting on my property and did a beautiful job. The only reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 is that they did not provide me with a diagram as to the path of the wiring. Therefore because I do not know where the wires are I can't have my lawn aerated and I'm very nervous to do any flower planting in some of my flower beds for fear that I'm going to hit one of their wires! This could have easily been remedied if they had provided me with a map of the wiring. I should have asked for one when they did it but I wasn't thinking about this being a problem in the future. They on the other hand, should have thought of this since this is what they do. read more

Not long after the system was installed I had a light that went bad and his service guy came right out and fixed it right away and no problems whatsoever. My neighbor uses landscape illumination for Holiday lighting and their house always looks phenomenal every holiday season and I may decide to go forward this year and do my own house. Well, after spending thousands with this company, I was very disappointed when bulbs burnt out every other day. I found out later that it was because the installers wired the bulbs to the transformer wrong. Common sense should dictate that you don't put 15v into a 12v bulb. Five lights on my house burnt out and I called to have them replaced under their warranty. The manager stated they were on field shut-down till spring. They expected me to wait a few months to replace the bulbs, all while half my home exterior was dark and looked like crap. This is NOT what I paid over $4,000.00 for. I've since found out there are less expensive companies to buy from who have more educated installers. Do your homework! read more
