I took my Taylor Big Baby here for a setup and string change and he ended up charging me less than what he originally quoted me, knowing full well I was willing to pay the full amount, because it didn't take as long as he thought. The honestly alone is worthy of commendation, but his work is absolutely fantastic. You could not ask for a better person to work on your guitar. This review as long overdue, I recently got a new guitar and I brought it to Sam as he is a local luthier who had a lot of positive reviews. Is cost for a tuneup and set up for a new guitar was more than fair, he did it very quickly and in all honesty the information that he gave me on simple guitar maintenance and the tips that I got were worth probably more than the tuneup itself. I was just getting ready to clean my guitar and I had a question so I called Sam and he answered quickly and gave me all the tips he had and recommendations on what to use and what not to use. Brought a brand new bass I had purchased online to Sam. A couple of days later it was ready to go and plays like a dream. He even crowned and polished some of the upper frets that were a little high as part of a basic setup. Great communication and a fair price. I used to live in NYC and had a friend who would setup my guitar, brace the bridge, adjust the nut... whaTever I needed. He is a world class luthier who has worked on major players guitars (jimmy page, among others). I don't often need something done. I don't gig except my living room. I am friendly with everyone at AVG, especially the owner. Except for him having a grudge from having to pay out on the golf course :)... and his wait list for his guitar tech, I'd have gone to Stephen. I looked around. Believe it or not, my buddyy in NYC had a couple oof recommendations here! I went outside the box. I went to Landis, met him, asked a few questions that opened the door for a cheaper or easier solution. He was completely honest and transparent. He had good reviews, and this is not a Jimmy Page guitar. WTH, let's do it. A fret job is a common thing, but a big deal. The meat of thIs review: completely cool, professional guy. Absolutely perfect fret job. Fretboard looks untouched. Setup perfectly. I'll give him 5 stars. Asked about some body mods. He was up front and honest, as well and recommended I go to another place.
