I really enjoyed talking with him as did my mother-in-law. And then I never heard anything back from him. I figured he was busy so I gave him a couple weeks. A couple weeks turned into over a month because life happens and I recently sent him an email asking him if he was still interested or what happened or if he had anything for me from our meeting I don't know what happened but communication went to nothing and I feel like I was ghosted after our first meeting, which sucks because I was really excited with all the ideas that he had given me for a remodel of my kitchen that is not incredibly user-friendly at the moment.

One project was a very challenging disassembly of a large gazebo (16'x9') and deck (about 25'x 9') and he and his team took such great care in taking it apart without damaging any of the pieces and loaded it into a 20' uhaul. The other project was to install a large cedar trellis, and it came out really beautiful. The project included taking down the old trellis and then doing craftsman style angle cuts, fitting notched pieces together and installing 6x6 posts and 2x8 cedar rafters. Jeremiah and Zach drew the duty to install two barn doors inside the house; which of course would…read morenot be as clean-cut as you'd want. The parts with the doors ended up not being as straightforward as I'd thought when ordering (from elsewhere) and the build structure in my walls wasn't as consistent as should have been (house was built in 2003, so whomever did it is probably retired or dead.) The guys took this project on and stayed committed all day to get it done. The end result? Gorgeous installation and smooth operation. They were can-do and communicated early and often throughout the day. For me, communication is essential, because that makes it partnership. I would definitely ask for these guys to help out with other projects in the future (I see an outside fence in the future...)

Update: Still no response from Hillsboro Handyman. Sending the mandatory 30-day pre-complaint…read morenotice from Oregon Construction Contractors Board. And guess what? Their license is suspended! They advertised on their website they are licensed. But as of 10/21/2024, they have a suspended license. Back in 2017 they were fined for working without a license. I wonder how the CCB will react when they find out Hillsboro Handyman was once again working without a license and committing fraud...

Updated Review: While my initial experience with this…read morecompany was frustrating and left me questioning their reputation, I have to commend the way they ultimately handled the situation. The owner personally reached out to me--even while overseas--to listen to my concerns and make things right. Both he and the project manager communicated clearly and professionally the second time around, and they addressed all of the issues I raised within a week. The craftsmanship was corrected, the cleanup concerns were taken seriously, and I appreciated their willingness to own the missteps and follow through quickly. Not every project goes perfectly, but how a company responds makes all the difference--and in this case, they really stepped up. I'm happy to give them a full five stars for the way they resolved everything.

He was quick to set up a time to come out, review the site, and provide a detailed and descriptive estimate for the project. He even walked through and pointed out different items that I hadn't thought about in options for my fencing needs. He was great at communicating whether it was on phone, text, or email. I appreciated the great communication during the project as well. The fencing was done by a father-son team, and they were efficient, diligent, and did a high quality job. The entire job took three days which was fantastic considering it was four different households whose fences were affected. I would definitely recommend using them and would use them again in the future.
