Review Highlights - Lamberts

For starters, I predicted correctly that Ben would home in on the Cornish squid, served with black pudding, confit tomato and dill oatcakes.

Located on the trendy Abbeville Road area of Clapham, he has certainly hit the nail on the head as far as what the local population want in terms of brunch offerings judging from the crowds there on the Sunday I visited I was happy that I booked a table for my first date with my girlfriend to avoid said crowds even though we were politely ejected from our table at 3pm There is an innovative lineup of dishes for brunch, reflecting the chef's penchant for British cuisine. The girlfriend and I decided to go with the small plates Well, Chef Byatt has done it again. Flavour is his watchword and we enjoyed a variety of dishes with clear, bold and distinctive flavours My favourite was the potted brown crab and the rabbit pate. Rich, round flavours with satisfying umami content. The black pudding sausage roll was a revelation - nice sausagemeat with black pudding filling with a thin layer of crispy pastry. Devils on horseback combined sweet prunes with salty bacon, a classic combo The only slight disappintment was that the mac n cheese could have done with more cheese We would have loved to have tried some dessert but ran out of time

So I came here weith two friends for Sunday brunch, and I ordered a roast duck whereas they ordered the Spanish omelette and bavette steak. (The bavette steak looked AMAZING by the way, I would definitely get that next time. The mushroom ketchup was also very unique, definitely worth a try.) We also got a round of bucks fizz/bloody mary. But then there was some miscommunication in the kitchen, so they brought out my friends' dishes but didn't bring mine out for more than 5 minutes after, so I had to ask about it, after which I was promised it in another 5 minutes. So in the meantime, they brought out a free large plate of chips. Then when my meal did come out, the chef came to personally apologize and offered us free ice cream after if we wanted any. The manager also came over a short while later and offered us another round of drinks on the house (we accepted of course). So at the end of the day, we got free sides, drinks, and dessert for a 10 minute delay. And the ice cream is SO good- we had marzipan and honeycomb and a berry vanilla, homemade and in the cutest little jar. Must have! Then after all that, they also took off the service charge from the bill! What unbelievable staff. The food is great but the staff definitely made the experience. Will definitely come back and hope to see the same people again!

The Sunday evening dinner, which happily extend to 9:00pm rather than the 6:00pm listed on the website, was outstanding! Particular standouts included the baked chicken dinner, cheesy cauliflower, sticky toffee pudding, and outstanding selections of ciders. This pub is large with an outdoor beer garden and a couple dining rooms (one with live music the night we were there) as well as the bar. The bartender and waitstaff were friendly and very helpful. The management were very helpful in setting things up with our hockey committee and the food buffet was good value at £15 per head, giving an international variety of lamb curry, fishcakes and garlic bread amongst others. It was also appreciated that a member of management was visibly present throughout the evening to help iron out any problems that could arise. The bar staff were also friendly and efficient The room was the prefect size for our guest list of 50 and a good evening was had by all The club were suitably impressed enough to want to book up for next year's dinner already

We sat outside before the rush hour, which worked out great because they clearly indicate for who and at what time the tables are reserved. We just grabbed a table that was reserved for an hour or so later than our stop and stayed for a few. We tried London Pale Ale by Meantime Brewing Company, Atlantic by Sharp's Brewery, Yakima Red by Meantime Brewing Company, and Fox by Exmoor Ales. We liked all except the Atlantic, which tasted strongly of vinegar. I really like the outdoor tables and garden atmosphere about the place. Even before the rush the place was bustling with good energy. We passed by after dinner and the place was positively popping. Street parking seemed a bit dodgy but if you have time to hunt for a spot, perhaps you will get lucky.

The Selkirk is more than your local drinking hub, they are striving to bring your pub classics with a twist, with competitive prices and a very relaxed atmosphere. On arrival we were greeted with a delicious cocktail that showcased the owner's freshly made Lemonade. A selection of English and French cheeses, proscuitto, and freshly made parmesan croquettes were offered to sample before being spoilt to a 4 course tasting menu, with matching wines. If you are a foodie, you would appreciate the difference the Selkirk brings to the table, comfort with class. With the food perfectly cooked, and served steaming hot, there is not much to complain about. If you just want to head for a good ole drink, check out their amazing glasshouse seating and come join the fun for a bbq in their courtyard for summer.

If there is any country on Earth where an architect would be commissioned to design a pub, England would be it. As a result it's a beautiful place, with comfortable seating and good food to boot. The inside is simply cavernous and they have really nice outdoor areas, so this pub is a must for summer pints and eating. Each week they have a live band playing a mix of covers and originals, and there may not be a better place to sample staid British cuisine at its best. Service is quite nice as well, solidifying this pub's unique place in between a mass existence of Asian restaurant and food markets.

With a large room at the back that is generally used for people watch sport it can be busy there during the normal football / rugby zones. There is another TV in the main area of the bar as well (though the sound is usually not on with this TV). The food is pretty good and if you are hungry you are going to fare better in here than in the takeaways and restaurants outside (unless you are in the mood for a good curry). Have arranged to meet people in here a few times, even though it's by no means the closest pub for anyone, so we must all enjoy it. I have had to wait at the bar for longer than I would normally expect a few times, however I think I might have simply been unlucky due to large drink and food orders ahead of me.

There is a car park next to the venue, however it belongs to the offices near by so park there at your own risk. It strikes me as a good venue for artists and audiences alike. The artists can perform in an environment which allows for a certain amount of intimacy. There is a bar area which has seats, so if you prefer to be near the bar and watch the show you can, however there is a glass screen between the bar area and the main floor so what you would hear I don't know. The food they serve is to cater for a wide range of tastes, fish & chips, jerk chicken (which if you are like me needs some proper spice to it) and some salads. The portion size was good and i did not feel the need for desert, although nothing took my fancy!! They had the usual variety of wines, beers, sprits along with some cocktails. The time it took to get served was ok no long waits and it was packed. Its always nice to not have to go to the bar to order your drinks so the table service was very much appreciated!! We witnessed Michelle John, who I had not seen on the Voice and she most certainly can sing!!

I didn't think much of the exterior. It looked a little drab and didn't have the pizazz that I had seen on the website. However, looks can be deceiving and I was just looking forward to tasting these infamous cocktails! The Exhibit is a 3 level venue. The first floor has a bustling bar, the second is the restaurant and cocktail bar and the third hosts a cosy, plush little cinema (which I found pretty impressive). The cocktail bar is tucked-away neatly beside the restaurant. It's a gorgeous little room encased in deep, rich red paint and dark leather seating. This cocktail bar is called "The Crush Bar" and is like a little drinking den in The Exhibit. Their cocktail list is pretty impressive. I'm immediately drawn to the Japanese cocktail, purely based on the name as I'm intrigued to see if it actually *tastes* Japanese! Unfortunately, it's a little too strong for my liking although my friend seems to be lapping it up! I finally decide on the Abermarle Sour as my drink for the evening - light and fruity and doesn't taste alcoholic in the slightest (probably dangerous for me so I watch how much I drink!). The bartender was really friendly. He talked us through the menu and answered all our questions and we ended up having a nice chat about his band and folk music, a lovely surprise. I quite enjoyed my night at The Exhibit. It was busy and bustling but The Crush Bar was a little quieter; we were able to get a drink and a seat in relatively quiet surroundings as it's tucked away. This place didn't blow my mind, but if you are around Balham on a Friday night, this is definitely a good pit stop.

Bill the owner of 80 plus stores, originally had a shop in Brighton. All of the decor was what he had in his shop. The meal I had today has been the best meal I've had since arriving here. The service was excellent, decor a little weird but pleasant. Cindy was (our waitress) so lovely. She was pleasant, knowledgeable and was able to make suggestions in regards to the menu and of course gave us a history lesson about the company. My steak was cooked to perfectly, chips lovely, watercress just complimented it all. I also opted for a bernaise sauce to accompany it all. There is an option for garlic as well. FYI: they also have a two course or a three course menu which is available Monday to Friday, noon to 7pm. From what I saw it's a great value and the starter, main and dessert choices were very good. I wish I had dessert but I could barely finish my steak. Next time. Bill also sells a wide variety of Bill products. Oils, condiments and sauces all for sale and displayed quite prominently at the front of the store. Please see attached pictures. I really enjoyed my meal today - great good and excellent service.
