The mushroom ketchup was also very unique, definitely worth a try.) We also got a round of bucks fizz/bloody mary.

The most impressive aspect of Lamberts though is the price. It's a Michelin level restaurant (although it doesn't have it's star...yet) but it's incredibly good value. Yes, local and seasonal have become almost ubiquitous anywhere smarter than Starbucks (only because we can't grow coffee though, I suspect), but here the food is beautifully presented and tasty which is just as important to make it work. We went for a mid-week dinner which is an absolute bargain at £25 for 3 courses. My boyfriend ordered a la carte, essentially to be able to get cheese at the end. Everything was lovely - fantastic gnocchi in particular (though these may have stuck in my mind since my own pursuit of creating the perfect gnocchi has hit a brick wall and I can't get past just ok), with fresh wild mushrooms and some salady stuff. I think I had pork belly because it came with black pudding - my usual achilles heel for ordering - and it was a good not-too-heavy portion. Service was fast but not rushed, etc. etc. The spiral staircase to the toilets can be daunting after 2 glasses of wine. I do wish they'd make more of the bar though, it would be a lovely place to have a quiet drink methinks.

The Sunday evening dinner, which happily extend to 9:00pm rather than the 6:00pm listed on the website, was outstanding! This pub is large with an outdoor beer garden and a couple dining rooms (one with live music the night we were there) as well as the bar. The bartender and waitstaff were friendly and very helpful. It was also appreciated that a member of management was visibly present throughout the evening to help iron out any problems that could arise. We sat outside before the rush hour, which worked out great because they clearly indicate for who and at what time the tables are reserved. We just grabbed a table that was reserved for an hour or so later than our stop and stayed for a few. We tried London Pale Ale by Meantime Brewing Company, Atlantic by Sharp's Brewery, Yakima Red by Meantime Brewing Company, and Fox by Exmoor Ales. We liked all except the Atlantic, which tasted strongly of vinegar. I really like the outdoor tables and garden atmosphere about the place. Even before the rush the place was bustling with good energy. We passed by after dinner and the place was positively popping. Street parking seemed a bit dodgy but if you have time to hunt for a spot, perhaps you will get lucky.

The Selkirk is more than your local drinking hub, they are striving to bring your pub classics with a twist, with competitive prices and a very relaxed atmosphere. On arrival we were greeted with a delicious cocktail that showcased the owner's freshly made Lemonade. A selection of English and French cheeses, proscuitto, and freshly made parmesan croquettes were offered to sample before being spoilt to a 4 course tasting menu, with matching wines. If you are a foodie, you would appreciate the difference the Selkirk brings to the table, comfort with class. With the food perfectly cooked, and served steaming hot, there is not much to complain about. If you just want to head for a good ole drink, check out their amazing glasshouse seating and come join the fun for a bbq in their courtyard for summer.

If there is any country on Earth where an architect would be commissioned to design a pub, England would be it. As a result it's a beautiful place, with comfortable seating and good food to boot. The inside is simply cavernous and they have really nice outdoor areas, so this pub is a must for summer pints and eating. Each week they have a live band playing a mix of covers and originals, and there may not be a better place to sample staid British cuisine at its best. Service is quite nice as well, solidifying this pub's unique place in between a mass existence of Asian restaurant and food markets.

With a large room at the back that is generally used for people watch sport it can be busy there during the normal football / rugby zones. There is another TV in the main area of the bar as well (though the sound is usually not on with this TV). The food is pretty good and if you are hungry you are going to fare better in here than in the takeaways and restaurants outside (unless you are in the mood for a good curry). Have arranged to meet people in here a few times, even though it's by no means the closest pub for anyone, so we must all enjoy it. I have had to wait at the bar for longer than I would normally expect a few times, however I think I might have simply been unlucky due to large drink and food orders ahead of me.

The artists can perform in an environment which allows for a certain amount of intimacy. The portion size was good and i did not feel the need for desert, although nothing took my fancy!! They had the usual variety of wines, beers, sprits along with some cocktails. The time it took to get served was ok no long waits and it was packed. Its always nice to not have to go to the bar to order your drinks so the table service was very much appreciated!! I didn't think much of the exterior. It looked a little drab and didn't have the pizazz that I had seen on the website. However, looks can be deceiving and I was just looking forward to tasting these infamous cocktails! The Exhibit is a 3 level venue. The first floor has a bustling bar, the second is the restaurant and cocktail bar and the third hosts a cosy, plush little cinema (which I found pretty impressive). The cocktail bar is tucked-away neatly beside the restaurant. It's a gorgeous little room encased in deep, rich red paint and dark leather seating. This cocktail bar is called "The Crush Bar" and is like a little drinking den in The Exhibit. Their cocktail list is pretty impressive. I'm immediately drawn to the Japanese cocktail, purely based on the name as I'm intrigued to see if it actually *tastes* Japanese! Unfortunately, it's a little too strong for my liking although my friend seems to be lapping it up! I finally decide on the Abermarle Sour as my drink for the evening - light and fruity and doesn't taste alcoholic in the slightest (probably dangerous for me so I watch how much I drink!). The bartender was really friendly. He talked us through the menu and answered all our questions and we ended up having a nice chat about his band and folk music, a lovely surprise. I quite enjoyed my night at The Exhibit. It was busy and bustling but The Crush Bar was a little quieter; we were able to get a drink and a seat in relatively quiet surroundings as it's tucked away. This place didn't blow my mind, but if you are around Balham on a Friday night, this is definitely a good pit stop.

The service was excellent, decor a little weird but pleasant. Cindy was (our waitress) so lovely. She was pleasant, knowledgeable and was able to make suggestions in regards to the menu and of course gave us a history lesson about the company. My steak was cooked to perfectly, chips lovely, watercress just complimented it all. I also opted for a bernaise sauce to accompany it all. There is an option for garlic as well. FYI: they also have a two course or a three course menu which is available Monday to Friday, noon to 7pm. From what I saw it's a great value and the starter, main and dessert choices were very good. I wish I had dessert but I could barely finish my steak. Next time. Bill also sells a wide variety of Bill products.
