Busy pub but not that great. Outdoor seating is on the intersection of two busy roads, so noisy and dusty. It's not in the common as its across the road. Limited non alcoholic drinks. Only soft drinks and Firefly. Crab and avocado on toast was so-so. The avocado slices were unripe, they should have used another. read more

Let's face it, there ain't all that much in the way of a local boozer and so The Hope comes as a bit of light relief as a stop over on the way home at the end of a day at work. It's a cosy pub across from Wandsworth Common that serves good beer and wine and has a good selection of spirits. It has a fantastic atmosphere and is quite stylish without being stuffy or pretentious. Regulars tend to vary from being bright young things to your more mature serious types. There is a great selection of board games if you're that way inclined although I don't see too much of that going on. Mostly it seems to be a meeting point for groups of friends to drink and be merry. Being located across from the common is an added bonus over the summer where large groups of thirty-something friends tend to gather and make the most of what good weather there is. There is some seating outside and it's generally buzzing on anything resembling a balmy evening. Defo recommended for regular visits. Nice! read more

This pub is the very much the social centerpiece to the Wandsworth Common/ Bellevue Road neighborhood. It is very relaxed and comfy, whether as a cozy hideout from the rain in winter or a place to sit outside in the summer. It has a pretty good selection in terms of beer, slowish but friendly service, decent food, and a trivia machine on which I've spent too much money (I am not smarter than a 10-year-old, it seems). When living in the area, it was the perfect place to meet up with visiting friends. It's the kind of pub in which 'a pint or two' can turn into a long evening. Since moving, I haven't found anything to quite replicate its homey feel. read more

What a charming boozer. Quite a different speed from what you get in central Londontown and that's just the way I like it. The indefatigable (and most likely unsinkable) Eamon B. brought me by and I was impressed by the quality and selection of brews. Although I didn't try it, any place that has a DIY bloody mary station is alright by me. The food out of the kitchen looked top notch, though I had just boxed three rounds at an Indian buffet around the corner so don't take my word for it. The families all looked happy and even the little kids were adorable. I'm sad we had to go back out into the London winter, but the warm fuzzies I got from the place have lasted long enough for me to write this review. read more

Best pub in the Wandsworth Common area. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good choice of beer. Lots of space inside and out. Can get very busy in the summer but you can spill out onto the common with friends which is a bonus. Food is excellent - especially the Sunday roast. read more

On sunny days The Hope is a magnet for those who want to drink in the sun or people making their way back from a day on the Common. I do not think I would go back to this place and I certainly would never eat there again. I might be doing the pub an injustice, as it does real ale and has the Cask Marque approval of quality. However I foudn the place unbearable. I regularly cycle past on my way home from work. It is always rammed and ften has young posh people spilling out into the street. There's the stereotypical mix of blonde barbie dolls and blokes wearing their pullover's round their necks. It is all under 40 Ox-bridge stuff. It is actually representative of the area which is just white, middle to upper class professional people. Therefore maybe my harsh review is unfair, but it is not my type of ale house. My girlfriend and I gave it a try for Sunday lunch. The place was rammed with screaming kinds and rude rich people. The food was even worse than the ambience. Awful. The veg was bland and boiled to death. Spuds not cooked properly and meat tasteless. If you've got a rollex and work in finance, then maybe this place might work for you. If you want good grub then take a short walk down to Northecote Road in Clapham. The areas is not littered with good pubs, but a short walk to Tooting Bec or Clapham will give you much better ale houses. read more

Try and get a seat outside this pub in the summer and you'll realise quite how popular this boozer is. With an amazing food menu (including at least three vegetarian options which is just a treat), and a LOT of outdoor seating this is a pub that fit for both summer and winter revelries. Get your tipple in a plastic cup in the summer and sit on the Common, or snuggle at a table with a huge plate of pie and mash come winter and warm your cockles. Food is about £7 a dish and well worth it. A spacious and friendly place with a varied menu of purse-friendly options. The food is not perfect, but it's good pub grub at a reasonable price. I can definitely recommend the lentil burger even for non-veggies. In the summer they offer picnic packages so you can take your food out to sit on the common, and there are also BBQ's most weekends. If I was rich, lived on Wandsworth common all year....and it was summer all the time, I think I would make the Hope my local. It's located right next to the common and down the road from the station. The pub is surrounded by seats and benches, so in the warm weather you can make the most of the common. The atmosphere is abit yuppie, but it's what you expect. Scrabble on a Sunday, pub quiz on a Monday, red wine drinking and Common gazing any and every night - The Hope is a favourite hang-out for all these activities. Though it's closed for a refurb right now (awaits with breath that is bated) The Hope will always have location on its side. Sitting opposite Wandsworth Common, the view is enviable and surely stands as one of the reasons why folk live south-west of this fair city. Downside of the location is you will have to put up with curly-haired children whizzing by on their scooters as puffed out parentals struggle after them yelling, Slow down, Kitty! or Come back, Horatio. Never fear, order a (fairly decent, comforting) roast and a large glass of Rioja (if they've got it) and you'll soon forget that said child was wearing a helmet and might even stop muttering that it had a smarter frock than you. The hope is a lovely pub near wandsworth common. I went on a sunny sunday afternoon. Its a great place to get a sunday roast. A good mix of people come here, and sometimes bring their dogs. The roast was good, but not perfect. It was rather busy, but not that it was a bother. Good wine list that isnt too expensive and great beer selection. And of course, my favouriteFrulli. Great pub, a stones throw from Wandsworth Common station, well worth dropping in. The Hope run a wine evening every Tuesday with money off most wines. We bought a bottle for less than 8 quid, sat in the beer garden and drank during a fine summer evening. I go to the hope a lot after a long walk on the common with my dog, they treat everyone kindly including the dogs and there is a nice relaxed atmosphere to the place. A large gastro pub facing Wandsworth Common this is a good summer venue and they even provide plastic cups for you to go and enjoy your drinks on the common on a nice day. There is a good range of tap and bottle beers and wines, food is pub fayre and a little on the steep side for what it is but palatable all the same. Go for a walk around wandsworth common and then come here to enjoy a pint or two and rest your legs. read more

The location, the decor, the comfy sofas and the friendly staff are all 5 star. The 2 star review is for the food. It really is a bit meh. I ordered the sirloin steak sandwich and was looking forward to a nice juicy steak sarnie. Unfortunately what turned up was 2 thin slices of bland, chewy meat - might have been cut off a sirloin but it was so thin it was difficult to tell. Certainly not worth a £10 price tag. I've been to this pub a good few times in the past few months as I live just round the corner. On our other visits I would agree with the other reviewers - good drinking pub with adequate food. We ordered food on our last visit and it was far from adequate. The fish was greasy and definitely not the freshest whilst the roast was mashed up on the plate and missing various ingredients. I ordered another less expensive meal to replace the inadequate roast but we were not offered the cost difference in return and we had to ask for this at the end of our meal. I used to go for food here knowing that the food wasnt the best but the atmosphere kind of made up for it. Now that defintely isnt the case! My family and I suffered through the Christmas Day dinner here. It was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had and such a disappointing way to spend what is meant to be a fun and festive occasion. We expected much more for such an expensive meal and, frankly, we only stayed to sit through the painful event because we had paid our large sum in advance. We would've been happier to go home and have some toast. Although each party selected its menu and seating time in advance (only 2 seating times offered and the deadline to submit was 2 weeks prior to the event), everything was incredibly disorganised. We knew we were in trouble as soon as we walked in. Although it being a festive season and a special event at the pub, we were greeted by absolutely nobody. After passing a man who shouted at me "I hope you're not hungry!", we found all of the servers huddled next to the bar tripping over boxes and staring at each other. It took 20 minutes to be seated (first at the incorrect table); a server tried to blame the delay on the fact that parties were staying beyond their allotted time; however, this is meant to be managed by the FOH team and, further, we were seeing with our own eyes that these parties were just now being served their meals (so the kitchen was in the you know what). After 40 minutes of sitting at our table, I had to walk over to the kitchen to remind a server that we existed (they apologized and explained they simply had forgotten that our table had been seated) and by 2 hours in we had enjoyed a single cold starter. After another extended amount of time, I walked over to the kitchen to ask for our palate cleanser (my palate had long forgotten that it had eaten anything by this point). At this point someone offered to refund us for our mains due to the ridiculous wait (close to 3.5 hours at this point), but in the end it was discovered that this refund was impossible since we had already paid by card. When I finally received my main it was missing components and barely warm. While we had a server, we begged her to bring our desserts and coffee in order to get the heck out of there as soon as possible. Although this is our local pub and they had already told us we'd receive the refund, they didn't offer a lunch/dinner voucher or anything like that. Big thumbs down. They removed our service charge (um YEAH... there wasn't any service provided, bit obvious). Overall, it was a massive regret booking here for this "special"event and am sad to have made our out-of-town family sit through this Christmas dinner. We're lucky to have had good company in each other as the service, the food, and the atmosphere left everything to be desired. I won't even return for the normal pub fare because of how poorly they handled the apology. All that needed to be said were some very quick and genuine apologies and perhaps an offer to truly refund our meal. I've only decided to leave this review as it would be a shame for another family to encounter this and for the pub to do nothing to correct the colossal fail that this Christmas dinner was. I hope that others who attended this lunch/dinner will review too. read more
