I love Lamar's donuts. Hard stop. But this location gives the brand a bad name. The size of the glazed donuts is half the size of traditional Lamar's glazed. Lamar's is the only place I get donuts from anymore. I've been going here since I moved from Texas 18 years ago, and nothing else comes close. The donuts are always fresh and taste great. The prices here are much cheaper than the downtown Lamar's locations. Very busy in the mornings but they do stock very well and the line moves quickly. Super soft fluffy yeast donuts including chocolate yeast donuts made with chocolate dough which is unique to Lamar's. Delicious raisin n spice cake donuts too. Obsessed with the raisin spice cake donut! I could eat a dozen easily. All the donuts were tasty and freshly made.

LaMar's used to have Long Johns the size of my forearm. They're normal sized now like any other donut shop. I stopped in to get a split dozen - 6 large & 6 small - this week. When I got to the register I actually paid MORE than 1 dozen large (over $25), because they ring it up as 6 single small + 6 single large rather than 1/2 dozen of each. They said the "dozen" price is a discount for buying a dozen. I bought a dozen, but got nowhere with them, so I paid and left. They should explain that when I first told them I'm ordering a split dozen, which I do at other donut shops and get the dozen price (a blended rate of 1/2 the small dozen rate + 1/2 the large dozen rate normally). If I knew I was going to pay MORE for this dozen than a full dozen LARGE donuts, I'd have just gotten the dozen large and skipped all the small ones. At the very least, they should just charge the "large dozen" price. read more

In for the first time yesterday after my wife had a couple of glazed thanks to a co-worker. We received friendly, expedient service. Simply, the donuts are to die for and the selection is good. If you are impatient or health conscious, you probably shouldn't eat donuts, at least not at Lamar's as we are told there can be a line which in my view speaks to the quality. All i will say recently i visited this establishment usually a good place for donuts however this recent trip saw a "Mouse" foot inside the donut. I believe this is to be honest a lack of care and concern for both the business which just had some employees who had covid. Then clay county health department obviously not doing their job. Liberty you on notice. Get that together before you business is closed and cancelled. Lamar donut is a Kc landmark. Lamars is ok. The donuts are good and the service is too but dont think ill be back in the foreseeable future. Heres my take-away... came on a Saturday morning around 10 o clock and there were so many people the line had to spiral around in the store just to fit everyone. "Oh well just go when they aren't busy." And what time is that? They are only open until 12:30pm. Meanwhile Donut King on Armour road is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. most days of the week. What does that mean? Better hours means we don't have legions of people all showing up at the same time to get donuts. The donuts I got today were ok. I bought a cherry donut...but there was no cherry flavor. I bought a caramel donut but the way he placed it in the box left most of the icing stuck to the box. This place is really close to me, and I've had some good donuts here but these hours truly suck and the should consider getting a bigger store if there are going to be that many people in there. read more

Oh, Lamar's - why are your donuts so delicious and your service so bad?... The donuts really are wonderful - fluffy, great flavor, decent selection early in the morning - before 10. On the other hand, the people at the counter act like it is a race to get you through the line. (Not everyone comes in daily to know their order by heart.) This review is regarding the plain glazed donuts only. I don't like cake donuts. I really like yeast donuts. I have tried donuts from many different vendors, as well as making them at home. Making them at home revealed to me how truly superior a glazed donut made with quality ingredients can be. I arrived at LaMar's around 9:30, so I realize that certainly isn't peak time as far as freshness. I wanted to try a LaMar's donut because the donut scene in KC is, frankly, kind of a desert wasteland. Took my first bite of the plain glazed (which was $1.10 with tax). Thought "Eh, this tastes kinda weird but maybe it's just this particular bite." Took second bite. Same. I think the main problems I had with the donut were that the glaze was overly sweet and artificial-tasting, and the donut itself tasted like old oil. Texture was similar to a Krispy Kreme. I love a little more doughiness in a yeast donut. I wasn't impressed, but again, I went in looking for some very specific qualities. If you like cake donuts this may be a hit; I wouldn't know. Seriously, I am so happy to be living so close to what has to be the best donuts in the city. Lamars donuts are so damn fabulous. They are delicious, light, and airy. I love that even when I gorge myself on a fat, chocolate long john, that it doesn't feel like I am biting into a mound of dough. Amended review from 4 stars: I went into Lamar's this morning only to find out I'd left my wallet at home. I did have my checkbook. I visit this Lamar's all the time and recognize every face. I asked if I could write a check (which I'd done before, but it had been a while). The people looked at me like they'd never seen me, then told me they would get in trouble if they accepted a check. I could understand if I was not a regular customer. Anyway, my 7 year old started crying and this nice man behind us offered to buy him 2 donuts.
