Wow!!! What a delightful assortment of yummy donuts. I absolutely loved the pineapple upside down donut. The frosting was a luscious pineapple, not too sweet, but sweet! Located in the heart of Old Westport, it's an easy spot to grab donuts whenever you need them. They had lots of flavors available and the staff was helpful regarding popular items. All the donuts we had were fresh and soft. I really enjoyed the style of icing that hardens and creates a little bit of that sweet shell. I would definitely come here again. As soon as I walked in the door I was smacked with the smell of sweetness!! There is plenty of seating inside as well to have a nice breakfast! The donuts are so fresh and warm which stands out from your other donut shop I feel like! There's a variety of donut flavors you can choose from too. Like maple bacon, fruity pebbles, and French toast was my favorite!!! They seemed a little busy with call in orders on a Friday morning which isn't surprising. They said if I wanted the mini version of the donuts it would take about 30 mins, so I went ahead and went with a classic dozen case and told them to just pick which ever ones they favorites to put in it! Found this donut shop while searching for donuts in KC. It sounded like fun for my 3 year old to watch them make their own donuts when you order them and it was a hit! It's a small little shop with fresh, local coffee and a wide variety of regular sized donuts, and huge cinnamon rolls . They offer a few gluten free options as well if that's what you prefer. Then there are their mini donuts that you can create your own and watch them make right in front of you. They are mini cake donuts topped with whatever you want: Icing, sugar, nuts, sprinkles, sauce drizzle, etc. We ordered a 6 pack but I can tell you you'll want more if it's for more than three people. I am confused about the 3.5 rating. It's donuts!!! Unless you saw critters crawling in them it's automatic 3.5. If they taste good 4. I was there with my son and he picked a humongo cinnamon roll. Usually when you order those "larger than life" pastries flavor goes out the window. This was not the case. I'm not a "sweets guy" but I was impressed. It was very good. It was a bit dirty in there. But to me it just looked like kids had been in, it was busy, and we were there near the end of there day. It was around 1230 and they hadn't yet had the chance to manage the cleanup from the rush. All day every day I recommend this place. I met the owner and he is the sweetest man fashioning Edith Head spectacles. Good conversation and heart in his sweet treats. I ordered a gluten free donut and it did not disappoint. I bought a $30 psychology journal that benefited my well-being to focus on expanding my palate. It was a fun way to study people and perspective. Every several chunk of pages you find phrases. You can circle the letters and create your own phrases and sentences of anything you see appear first on the page and do literally donuts around letters and words. Donutology has been open 4+ years, I love donuts and although I don't live in the neighborhood I do frequent the Westport area; so why is this my first visit? Location! The space sits at a busy and awkward intersection with a tight and small parking area. I really never expected them to survive. Not only have the survived, but their creations are featured at several coffee shops around town. The space is much larger than I expected upon first entering. Plenty of seating and plenty to keep you visually stimulated - including the first donut to leave Earths atmosphere and return. Really. The two small chocolate Old Fashioneds and the one Glazed that I consumed there and later were solid tasty choices. No complaints. Bonus points for the service. The young lady behind the counter was beyond friendly and genuine. I ordered a coffee drink, not on their small espresso menu. Instead of saying we don't have that, she asked how to make it, allowed me to walk her through the process to my liking and figured out a way to charge me accordingly all with a smile and pleasant conversation. I wish I had gotten her name. She took a 4 star donut and made it a 5 star experience. Maybe it's just the girth factor, I'm really not sure. I'm well aware that a properly constructed yeast donut takes more skill to produce perfectly pillowy than a dense fried cake counterpart but if I wanted light and fluffy I'd pick a croissant. Im also a maple maniac, maple icing on a yeast donut even sign me up! So, when I saw a perfect round maple old fashioned beauty staring at me I knew it was her lucky day...to be inside my mouth, ha! Anyways, overall I'd say the maple flavor wasn't too artificially sweet which was nice and the texture of the cake was spot on. S'mores poptart was my favorite! The people working here were very kind and patient with my kids as they made their options (and changed their minds). I appreciated that they made my 5 year old an M&M donut even though that wasn't one of the options listed. They were very accommodating. Will be back next time we are in town. I try to be very balanced in my reviews. Having a shop so close that has GF pastries is a great provision. Also the quality of the food is wonderful. However, I went into the store in Westport at 6:20am on a Saturday to get GF items and also apple fritters and iced cinnamon rolls. When I arrived, they informed me that they would not have any until 8:30-9:30am. I assumed maybe someone came in early and purchased all. Nope, they just didn't make them "so we could focus on making other donuts" is what I was told. This is very frustrating as this is a staple for donut shops. I was there for a Yelp Elite event, so must admit, everything was complimentary...but I'd have lots of compliments for them even if it hadn't been! It's a create-your-own-donuts, coffee and specialty beverage shop combined, and just a fun place to be. We had a Build-A-Donut party, where they provided three flavors of their mini-donuts (plain, pumpkin spice, and blueberry), an array of frostings (maple, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla) and drizzles, and an impressive assortment of toppings, including crumbled bacon, sprinkles, chopped nuts, tiny M&Ms, chocolate cookie crumbles, neon-colored cereal bits, and more. After a brief demonstration (flawlessly executed), they left us to our own devices. Our rubber-sanitary-gloved hands flew, and so did lots of crumbled bits! There is an art to dunking a donut in a frosting and getting it back out, let alone with the donut intact! The obvious perfect combination was a pumpkin spice donut with maple icing, dipped in (real) bacon bits...OMG delicious...but there were oodles of others attempted! We made platefuls, some of which were eaten on-site, and any left were put in specially-made-locally-mini-donut-sized boxes to take home. What's better than being a kid in a candy store? Feeling like a kid in grandma's kitchen, creating our own versions of donut-heaven, making a mess that you don't even have to clean up yourself, and eating your oh-so-delicious "experiments" on the spot! Anyone can book a party (for a reasonable per-person fee) like this for kids or adults...I hope to host my own birthday party there next year! Also included was a tour of the shop and kitchen, during which their passion for sourcing things as locally as possible was apparent, from packaging, labels, and logo items, to coffees (The Roasterie), Shatto Milk (Osborn, MO), for their beverages and available for sale, Belfonte ice cream to fill their Donado cones, and old-fashioned soda pop from a once-defunct Missouri factory being revived (which will eventually include a special Donutology-flavored pop). While you're there, watch their giant tornado-shaped "Donado" ice cream cones being made from donut dough. Fill one up with ice cream topped with just about anything! When you get home with your own to-go donut creations (full size or mini), go to their website (www.donutology.com) to read all about the "World Famous Space Donut," the story of one of their donuts launched to a height of 97,000 feet on a weather balloon that landed 253 miles away in Illinois (of course it was "chipped" so it could find its way back home)!
